The Around the Nation column says, "The rest of the conference is probably rooting for Wartburg to pierce Central's recent aura of invincibility so they can pounce on the opportunity for a wide-open race. "  That can't be true can it?  Come on sing it with me everyone, "Go Big Red.  Go Big White.  Central College fight fight fight."  I can't hear you...

All I have to say is Cornell sucks

Actually, Cornell swallows!

and Coe Sucks!  :D

That's how the saying goes.  We used to sell bumper stickers that said,
"Charlie says, Cornell Swallows."
in answer to the statement Coe sucks.
We sold those bumber stickers twenty years ago.

Go Kohawks!!!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I have to say that I've been impressed with Wartburg fans all week...few have risen to the bait of the Central fans (as we talk and gear up for our Homecoming weekend.) Very classy -- I'm impressed.

The Wart fans have always been very gracious when they lose to Central.  I can't remember what they are like when they win.

it has been 3 years too long.  You also could have been in a coma during the 4 year stretch the knights won.

I posted results of halftime scores in this series and found it very interesting that Central hasn't led @ halftime in the past 9 games.  possibly 10.    Obviously the final score is only thing that matters.

I just thought it was interesting in this evenly split rivalry Central has never led going into half-time.   7 of last 10 winners  were also decided by 14+ points.

Coach Willis is 5-4 in the series.  I like him to be 6-4 after Saturday.   I'm expecting another fairly low scoring game.
WB 17- Central 14-  I'll stick with the recent trend of close games.  The winning streak turns back to where it belongs.

courtesy of IIAC website:
07-@ Wartburg..        17-14 Central          WB led 7-0 @ half
06 @ Central              13-7 Central in OT   0-0 @ half
05@Wartburg..           37-20 Central          14-10 WB @ half
04 @ Central...           14-10 Wartburg     14-10 WB @ half
03 @ Wartburg           29-3 Wartburg        WB led @ half- breakdown not on site
02 @ Central               14-0 Wartburg        0-0 @ half
01@  Wartburg           31-7  Wartburg       guessing WB led @ half- breakdown not on site
00 @ Central                24-10 Central       10-0 WB @ half
99 @ Wartburg             40-23  Wartburg    21-21 @ half
98 @ Central-in snow    24-10? Central      I think it was tied @ half?  I'm going off memory

Thanks for the info.  Very interesting.  I hope Central wins, but I think Wartburg is the favorite in the game.

KCDutch,

Are you coming up for the game?  If you do come to the parking lot and enjoy some brats with us.

I'll be there and looking for some more hospitable weather than the last time. :)

Though I must say, the ratings on the Bethel/Central broadcast were off the charts. Combination of the late start and even later finish, meaning the other three quarterfinals were done before we were.

There aren't nearly as many Wartburg posters on her as there used to be (find a page from 3 years ago and its probably got an orange tint to it) Player's dads, students, and alums that used to post have moved on.
Those of us that are still around don't post nearly as much since there are plenty of Cornell fans on here now to keep the board alive.
Throw in our team laying an egg last weekend and you can see why our enthusiasm for the game has waned.
I know my own enthusiasm for it is not as high as it usually is, but of course this will be the first W'burg Central game I have missed since 1997, and not by any choice of my own. Hopefully I can get around a computer that has an internet connection to watch the second half.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Thanks for the invite, but unfortunately I'll be in KC this weekend.  Go Dutch!

Best wishes to you too WH.

I wouldn't call last week's game laying an egg, but it didn't do anything to inspire unbridled confidence either.

From listening to the UD/Redlands podcast.  In the pregame they mentioned that Redlands would only agree to play a home game, refused to play home and home with Dubuque.  Also, Redlands pulled an Augustana and refused to exchange game film.  For all the talk we hear about the west coast teams having a hard time scheduling teams...it might help if they offer to play a 2 game series instead of only playing home games.  And it might help if you agree to exchange game film.

How typical is it for IIAC teams to find schools that will only schedule a 1 game series?  I think the Central @ Albion game this year is a 1 game deal.  Also, how typical is it for a school to refuse to trade game film?  Like Augustana not trading with Coe and now Redlands refusing to exchange with UD?

Welcome, Pat!  The weather is supposed to be 81 and sunny on Saturday.  I hope our luck is as improved as the weather over the last time we hosted you.
