Looks like a long purple terd as it swirls down into the toilet hole.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Has anyone heard any credible entering freshman #s from the IIAC schools? I don't have specifics on Simpson, but I heard that it was going to be a large class (if most reported).

I think Wartburg had about 120 Freshmen.

Luther Football preview from the school website:

http://sports.luther.edu/football/preview.htm

Seems to be one of those previews that mention veterans regardless of ability more often than some young players who showed real promise last fall.

They have the returning letter winner bios up as well on the football page.

Outlook on Dubuque from the school website:

Wow, former University of Iowa nickel back and talent Walter Belleus is now a Spartan!  Last I knew, I thought he spent last season at one of the NAIA programs in southern Iowa.

I did not see Dubuque play last season, so from a distance they seemed like an interesting program with Jackson and company.

Does anyone know when the last time the Wartburg team roster has been updated on the school website?  I saw a couple of players that I thought were not going to go out this fall.

Thanks

I'd guess the only work that's been done on it was to remove the departed seniors.  Probably won't see a 2006 roster on there until camp breaks and regular practice starts up.

Bad news out of the Buffalo training camp - Bills prospect running back Fred Jackson was carted off the field after hurting his right knee on one of the final plays of practice Tuesday. Coach Dick Jauron didn't have an immediate update on Jackson's status, but the undrafted rookie free agent out of Coe College was spotted walking on crutches afterward. Jackson was hurt when his right foot appeared to get caught in the turf shortly after taking a handoff. He limped off the field and trainers immediately began applying ice just above his kneecap.

Walston,

What was the turnover last fall for reporting Knight freshmen?  Seemed like I remember hearing stuff about 80 freshmen reporting but only about 40-45 sticking with it when it was all said and done.  If there was a dramatic amount of freshmen reporting last year, how often has that happened during the good run in football going back to 1990?

Sometimes the rumors about roster numbers can get blown out of proportion though as I remember hearing the same thing about Luther bringing in around 90 recruits around four years ago.  That turned out to be pretty inaccurate, as minimal roster turnover and the size of the roster have remained pretty steady over the last few years at least.

It used to be fun to watch the dramatic changes in the Upper Iowa roster back when they were taking out newspaper advertisements in Florida back in the 1980s and early 1990s.  Turned out that Fayette and the size of the "University" were not quite what recruits from other regions of the country were expecting when they decided to play for the Peacocks.

I heard today, that as late as last week, the Coe coaching staff was calling a member of the basketball team asking him to show up for football practice.  Apparently the team is short on quarterbacks and the coaches figured this former shotgun qb could fill the roll of backup.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Floyd:

The undefeated conference champion Wartburg Knights of 2003 started with around 50-55 classmates when they arrived on campus in August of 2000.  The roster for their final game at Linfield in November 2003 included 21 seniors.

Bills update on Freddie:

8/15/06
Running back Fred Jackson however, didn't appear as fortunate. On the second to last rep in practice, Jackson's foot appeared to get stuck in the turf on the grass field as he tried to cut it looked as though his knee twisted awkwardly. Jackson went down to the ground and let go of the football he was carrying on the play. He was carted from the field.

"We've got to see what happened to Fred," said Jauron. "I'm hoping it's not serious because you never want to lose anybody. So we'll have to wait and see how that comes out."

8/16/06
"Jauron said that Jackson's knee injury wasn't as serious as first feared. The running back was able to watch practice standing just a day after twisting his knee awkwardly on a running play. Jackson however, is unlikely to play against Cincinnati Friday night."

Freddie can be seen on the depth chart.  He is listed as fifth string KOR.

GO FREDDIE GO!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Floyd-
I don't know what % of freshmen come back for their soph year on the football team. Many of the guys are not highly recruited(not going to say they aren't recruited at all, but of course the coaches aren't going to tell a kid he can't go out. In my experience, most of the guys who quit the team are still in school, but they either:
a. decide college football is not for them
b. thought they were a lot better player than what they are (seen this a ton)
c. don't want to put in another year on scout team to hopefully get a shot their junior or senior year.

We did have several guys in my class that did put the time in and finally got to see a little PT their senior year, but I would guess the amount of guys that do that all around the nation are few and far between.
