I'm afraid ther won't be time for anymore straight talk, until Cornell wins a game.

My cable and internet was out all weekend at home -- how annoying! Pardon the delayed response, but congrats to all the winners this weekend. BV is on a roll, and definitely the team to beat! I'm excited for the BV/Central match up.

As much as I harass them, I hate to see Coe down....I love the level of competition they usually bring to the conference.

Congrats to the Dutch -- we've gotta figure out how to put together four quarters -- IN ONE GAME. A two posession lead at halftime turns into a cardiac moment? Come on....Excercise control of the ball, the game clock, the tempo, and get it done.

Final thought -- where is ShowMe? Is show and tell over for the season already?  ;)

I wanted to ask that question Sat.

A BV win this Saturday eliminates Cornell and Dubuque. Reduces their majic number to one, over Simpson, Luther, the loser of the Loras vs Wartburg game, and the loser of Central vs Coe. Leaving only the winners of Coe vs Central and Wartburg vs Loras with a reasonable chance to catch them. It's to early for that. I think in fairness to the other schools, and to promote more discussion on here, BV should lose to the Norse.

As a Simpson fan they need to lose Sat :o :o :o

He has even stopped making his pickem picks.  He has not made any picks for the last three weeks.  It is a shame that he went away.  His comments made me at the least smile and the most laugh out loud.  I guess you can call him a fair weather fan.  Is that to harsh?  The Knights are not have their best year, the Dutch are not as well and we are still posting here.  Come back Showme we are really not all that bad of people here.

Just a game note, the Loras vs. UD game on the 25th that was moved to a night game has been moved back to 1:00.  Not sure why. I heard it had something to do with a conference rule, but I feel like that would have been checked out before they went ahead with the plan. Its too bad, a lot of people were looking forward to that night match-up.

This weeks games are Central at Coe, Cornell at UD, Loras at Wartburg, and Luther at BV.  With 5 words post the home field this year is not much of an advantage.  The question then is does this help Luther going to BV?  With my last post Showme should be on here as this may be the week that Cornell breaks through.  From the records it seems that this would be the game that the Rams can win.  5 words post applies here as well.  Is this the week that the home teams go O fer?  The Coe-Central game should be a good one.  Coe may be able to get the Dutch they have played them close the last four years.  Not more than a score in the last four years.  I don't see anything to think that it will change this year.  Three three point games and a seven point game last year.  Loras-Wartburg is a telling game.  Will the Knights be able to stay in the hunt?  Will Loras win the game and stay in the hunt?  If Luther wins then there really is a jumble at the top.    If Luther does win there will be three teams at the top of the conference with one loss and three teams in second with 2.  There are many games left to decide the IIAC AQ.  Exciting week coming up in the IIAC.

I think UD will beat Cornell this weekend, particularly if Heys Jr. is still out.  All the other conference games are up for grabs this weekend, IMHO.  It could be that the home teams are not winning more than 50% of the games, but I would still rather take on Coe in the friendly confines of Ron & Joyce Schipper Stadium.   I'm sure that is true for everyone.  This week's pick-ems should be interesting.  I have usually done mine by now, but I'm not sure what to think.  For a first this year, I'm not even sure about picking the Dutch.  I like to think that Saturday was the start of getting people in the right places, and turning things back to the winning ways.  But the second half of the UD game and the number of injuries has me concerned.  Mac hinted that things might be different in this year's preseason write-up.  He knows his team well.

In regards to an earlier question on the board:  I don't think Central over recruited and I do think these Central players that are not seniors have a very bright future, but they haven't convinced me that the rebuilding/reloading has been finalized yet.  There may be some real nice opportunities for this year's HS seniors and any more SEP transfers to make an impact next year on a team with a storied history and a bright future.

By saying they usually bring a high level of competition to the conference, are you saying they aren't this year?  While they may only be 2-2 in the IIAC, their two losses were by 2 and six points, in games they were clearly in all the way.  So the record may be down, but the level of play sure isn't.

the level of play is down for coe this year.  it was sort of expected.  i would not say this years kohawks are even close to the 4 previous years.  they just dont really have the same talent on the offensive side of the ball as years past.  their defense is just as good as years past, but seems to look different at times.  maybe that is coaching, or attitude, or whatever... they are 2-2, and could easily have a better record, but they arn't as good as the last couple years.

Reading the convo about Coe being down got me to thinking...

Does anyone thing that the talent level in the IIAC this year is down from the past few years? or would you say that it is just expereince that is down? The classes that graduated the last two years were loaded with talent all throughout the conference. Just wondering what everyone else thinks

I have been wondering about that.  It's been hard in the past to get kids from the 4A schools in the state to come play football in the IIAC.  Is that starting to trickle down into the smaller schools?  Or is it just a case of a lot of teams replacing a lot of talent.  Or is it a case of the good kids getting spread out more among the schools...Wartburg and Central not getting all of the kids that they used to?

i think it may be.  there were a lot of 2, 3, or 4 year starters being replaced in the last 2 years.
i also think coe hasnt done the usual good recruiting job they have in years past.  instead of bringing lineman through the years (like they used to do) they have 3 former d-linemen playing (starting) on the o-line this year.

I think that it is a lot of young players replacing the veterans.  I also think that time will only tell if the talent is down.  We have to find out if the level of talent is down.  When these young players get experience then we can see if the talent level is down.
