I contacted the DOT quite awhile ago about private college plate-Coe in particular...What's up with only one IIAC school getting the nod?  Are they basing this on some sort of count request?  Come on Coe fans-REQUEST!!

I know Simpson ran a "license plate" campaign a while ago and if I remember correctly, they needed 500 people to comment to it before the DOT would go forward. Again, it's been a few years ago, so I'm not 100% sure.

Central did the same thing a few years ago, and didn't get the 500 signatures.

How much do license plate frames cost vs. an actual plate?  If a Central or Dubuque frame would cost less than the state plate I am guessing most people would just order the frame from their favorite school.  I'm not holding my breath for a UD plate...but if they were available I would probably give it serious consideration.

Sorry to hear about Don Hansen.  He has been having health issues for a few years now.  Hope he feels better soon.

Coe is gonna pound the livin' snot out of Central.  Why? Because Coe's defense will be fixtures in the Dutch backfield.
Coach McMartin is way ahead of ya.  He got his more mobile quarterback loosened up in the last game so when Coe's defense gets to the Central backfield, there won't be anyone there.

THIS POST IS BEING WRITTEN BY 5 WORDS OR MORE
(evil twin of 5 Words or Less)

Loras @ Wartburg
The Warts have Yordi who is the most efficient passer in the IIAC.  But Yordi has also been sacked 11 times in the last 4 games.  I've observed that past Knight QB's have dumped passes to avoid sacks, why is this year different?

Luther @ Buena Vista
So that's my segway into talking about the Norse, currently 3-2 and on pace to finish 4-6.  Luther's luck has got to run out at some point because it's so improbable that the running back of the week club is going to keep finding someone to carry the ball.  To their credit, however, the coaching staff has found a way for the O-line to open a hole wide enough to squeeze them through for yardage now and again.  Chris Reynolds at QB has provided Luther with skills that haven't been in Blue for several years.  The D-line of Kuennen, Edwards/Rickertson and Webb has been dominant and the secondary is vastly improved.  The thing about Luther is that you should never get your hopes up too high because they often times find ways to self destruct: ex: WR false start, dropped punt, WR false start, dropped punt, WR false start, dropped punt, etc.  Until they prove me wrong, I see "Bus-lag" as an insurmountable obsticle at Storm Lake.

I the most recent Luther-Wartburg games that I can remember seeing (2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007), the Knights threw a bunch of short passes for most of the game.  Some of those passes went for big gains, but they were high percentage passes that worked because the Knights had good talent and the Knight run game opened it all up.  In 2006 they did not really open it up passing the ball until the end of the game when they knew they had won.  In 2005 they really did not open it up until they fell way behind and were trying to get back into the game.  There were also bad weather conditions that day.  In 2007 they spent much of the time trying to isolate the stud TE against Hendrickson (MLB).  Some of the passes were longer to the TE if I remember correctly.

2004 was probably typical of many Wartburg games over the years where everyone knew the Luther Offense was going to have a hard time against the Knight Defense.  Luther only got a TD on a Sherden kick return, and even though the Luther Defense played very well that day, the Knight Offense only had to make sure that they did not lose the game that day.  Wartburg won 16-7 and the Knight run game went for 189 yards while the Knight QB passed for 95 yards.

I would love to see Luther get to the point where they could trust that the defense would dominate almost every week while the offense ran the ball well and protected the ball.

That self-inflicting wounds stuff on offense that you were talking about above was very much a part of the 2003-2005 season as the Norse had a good run game, good defense much of the time, forced lots of turnovers, but the offense made enough mistakes or got enough inconsistent play from the QB position that they were 6-4 all of those years (5-3 in the IIAC the last two).

This year the Luther Offense is clearly not as good as they have been in recent years from a production or big play standpoint, but they have been keeping the turnovers down going into the Waldorf game.  The defense has also gotten back to the 2003 and 2004 type of season from a turnover production standpoint.  Can it continue?  It would seem like the defense could if the offense and special teams can hold their own.

One thing that is on Central's side for this game is having a Kohawk Defense Alum on there sidelines in Phantz.  He was the DL coach for Coe when he was a GA and he certainly knows the Kohawk Defense like the back of his hand having played LB at Coe.  Should be interesting whether Coe has changed up any of the Defense signaling since Phantz has left or whether he would be inclined to steal the signals.  Should be a great game this weekend.  Go Kohawks!

If pounding the snot out of them involves scoring a lot of points, I can't see it happening. The Coe offense hasn't shown that ability much, and the Dutch defense isn't going to give up that much. 21 points might win that game.

5words, I think I like your evil twin. You should get him an account and a fancy moniker. Your split personality may be the result of an oppressed vocabulary in your posts. It would be both therapeutic for you and entertaining for us, if you worked that out on this board.

How is little spurrier???
little spurrier had a great camp; found his way to the two deep on kickoff coverage and got reps with the two's at free safety, but when the bearcat broke camp to return to campus, he was told he would be red shirted. . .classes are going well and this is an open week so he gets to play in the underclassmen scrimmage on friday. . .he is fighting through not getting on the field this year but his day will come. . .the bearcats are 5-1 and 1-0 in the conference.
next game is oct 25 vs uconn.
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Good post.  Gave me a laugh and rang true all at the same time.  Lackey is quicker and has a great ability to run and drag defensive players with him.  I remember one play on Saturday when he carried 3 UD players for several extra yards and a first down.

Here's what I was told on Monday:

There was a law change that was effective July 1, 2008 that allows for issuance of collegiate plates for private 4-year colleges and universities.  It also requires the college to pay the start up fee which is $5,000.  Numbered plates will cost $25 and personalized plates are $50. $5 is also due at the time of the registration renewal each year.  If the school is interested please let us know and we get started on the design of the plate.

Great post 5 Words Twin.  Anything written at 2 AM that is still coherent deserves a :) and some + karma.

However I disagree that "bus lag" is going to do in the Norse vs. BV........made the trip enough times myself to know that the team gets off the bus and can hardly wait to stretch it out on the field.  This 2008 Norse team has FOCUS.  The "shoot self in foot" stuff may not be over but will be minimized (it was most obvious vs. Waldorf with a first year kick receiver.)

If Luther loses, I'll buy you dinner in Decorah after the Cornell game providing you are still following the Rams that late in the season.

Quick look at the rest of the season and how I see it playing out.
Luther gives BV their first conf. Loss this weekend
Wartburg puts together their first full game of the year with the help of beautiful homecoming weather in Waverly.
Coe gets Central
Fast Forward to November and find BV still in the Driver's seat.
Coe gets BV in Storm Lake
Wartburg has a VERY close game with Luther but wins and is sitting just Behind BV until that game.
Cornell gets their first conf win of the career of many of the players there in week 10 against BV after BV checks out.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

5 words I agree with your post except the comment about Wartburg giving up their October gimme. Please tell me which lost was a gimme. Augsburg loses for first time this year last weekend and BV is setting on top of the IIAC.
