I wonder who the lucky guy/gal is that gets to walk behind it with the pooper-scooper???

High above the Cedar River there is an awful smell.  Some say it's the Cedar River, but we know it's Cornell.

I guess now they can blame the goat!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Dateline Buffalo

Freddie Jackson won an award at the end of the Bills training camp.

Best recovery from injury: Fred Jackson. Somehow he was back on the field two days after what looked like a horrific knee injury. Ligaments made of rubber can be the only logical explanation.

He is definately getting noticed.

Yesterday's Waterloo Courier had an article on 2006 Wartburg Football

What me, worry?
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

In checking out the football roster on the Wartburg web-site, it apears the football team either has no player who earned enough credits last year to move up a grade level or they did a horrible job recruiting since it looks like no freshman or transfer players have joined the team this season.
???

In either case (dumb players or no recruits) I'll have to change my prediction from a first place finish for the Knights to a sixth place finish.
:'(

If the web-site just hasn't been updated, I'll stick with my original championship prediction for the orange and black.

At least the Wartburg web-site is consistant.  The coaches section isn't current either.  How tough can it be to corner some of these guys for a picture and get a decent biography about them?  I refer you to the Upper Iowa web-site if you want to see a good coaches section.

We still haven't heard from Doc or Peacock.  What is the word out of Fayette Nam?  How are the Peacocks liking D2?  Are the fans supporting D2 better than they did D3?  If not I don't understand how UIU can afford the scholarships, recruiting activity and the travel expenses.  The walk from main campus over to Eicheid Field is still one of the coolest things in small college athletics.  Fill us in Doc and Peacock.

Does the radio team stay the same for Wartburg this season?  I keep hoping they will have guest announcers like ABC Monday Night Football did a few years ago.  When that happens I assume they will put my name on the top of the list right ahead of the college president, the athletic director, the mayor of Waverly, Joe KnightHawk,  the professor of the year or the student body president.

Warthog,

It is my understanding that they paid for the scholarships just like the other D-3 schools pay for the financial help that is given.  The Peacocks can call them athletic scholarships not academic.  I don't think from what I understand the UIU players have any better deal or cost for their education that any of the D-3 IIAC schools.  The difference is they can call their financial help an athletic scholarship for recruiting purposes.

Two-time IIAC MVP Fred Jackson didn't see any action in Saturday's 20-17 loss by the Buffalo Bills to the Cleveland Browns. That's no surprise as teams typically use the third preseason game to test the starters. Willis McGahee and back up L. Gates got all the carries for the Bills. Hopefully, Fred will get plenty of opportunities Thursday night in Detroit. I wish I could go see it in person, but my compass is pointed toward Bloomington, Ill. GO KOHAWKS!
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Warthog-
I too keep waiting for the newcomers to be listed, but checking other school's websites it appears Wartburg is not the only one that is a little tardy in getting them listed.
Half of the Knights Radio Network team will be the same as Elwin Huffman will be back behind the play-by-play microphone. Goetz will still be around offering the "well informed fan's" perspective. I'll be focusing my football season energy on getting my Dowling Catholic Maroons into the Des Moines Register top 10 after a preseason snub. My wife had to get me a valium to calm me down after seeing the article in Yesterday's paper. Also going to try to be home every once in a while to see my daughter, although my wife claims she lives in a single parent home during football season. Anyone who has every coached knows what I'm talking about.
I should be at the opener, Luther, Loras, and make the short trips to Pella and Indianola and hopefully Road Trip to Cedar Rapids. Going to try and catch a few Cyclone games (although their schedule allows for a few Wartburg/ISU Saturday doubleheaders and try to make it up to Winona to watch my little brother coach.
On second thought-maybe my wife was right about a single parent household.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Any feelings on the Bethel/Buena Vista game Saturday in Arden Hills?  I was very impressed with BV last year, in particular I believe your stud reciever I think his # was 4.  How does the team compare this year, and how do you see them doing this year in the IIAC

The Show

BV graduated that stud receiver, you were right, #4 Jesse Schmidt.

BV will be fairly young, but return their QB and should be able to move the ball.  They have some bruisers at tailback (5'6", 158 & 5'8", 167), but are pretty quick.  I know one of them fairly well...

I think Bethel returns quite a few from last year's squad and since it's at Bethel, I assume it will be a tough game for BV.  But I'll take BV in a squeaker 17-14.

Well with the talk about this weeks games here they are and my picks

BV at Bethel    Bethel in a close game because of being a home game for Bethel and it think they have as many returning as BV does.

Central at ST Thomas  Central in a close game

Coe at Illinois Wesleyan  Coe easy

Northwestern (MN) at Cornell  Northwestern in a close game

UW Platteville at Dubuque  UW in a close game

St Ambrose at Loras  Loras

Luther at Martin Luther  Luther

Simpson  at Concordia (Wis)  Simpson

Monmouth at Wartburg  Coach Koelher will win his debut Wartburg.

Good luck to the IIAC teams and if I didn't pick the IIAC teams I still want them to win.

I'll make it easy on myself and pick an IIAC sweep!
