Nice day for a game in Cedar Rapids.  Central played their best all around game this year.  The young players are coming around.

Congrats to the winners again today, more good football going on, especially if you like defensive struggles! It sounded like the Dutch are back to their strengths, good D , get turnovers, block punts, a running game.  Coe was #1 or 2 in  in conference rushing defense and The Dutch got some good gains on them.  Anyone there, was this a statement win for Central or weaker than normal Kohawks this year?

Football became just a game today at Wartburg when it was learned shortly before the game that former Knight OL Bryce Mercer was one of the people shot and killed north of Marshalltown last night after a car accident.
Bryce graduated in '06 and was a fun loving guy that owned a room when he was in it.
RIP Merce.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Congrats to Luther for a big win.  Congrats to the Knights on their homecoming win.  Congrats to UD on the win.

The question was this a statement game?  I don't know if it was that but the Dutch did well.  They played very well in all phases of the game.  Special teams got a blocked punt, a big kick return right after Coe put three points up.  The Dutch threw it well.  Got some rushing yards and kept Breitbach from returning a kick for points.  I am sure that the coaches could find faults with the game but from the stands I would say they played their best game of the year.

Not to start a war with the Kohawk fans but I would like your take on going for the FG on 4th and two mid fourth 1/4.  I would have thought with the way the Kohawks were moving they would have gotten it and got 7 instead of 3.  They were still 3 scores behind at that point.  Just thought they might try to get a TD there.

Your not the only one questioning that call.  Not sure what anyone was thinking on that one.

Someone commented on Coe defending the run.  It should be noted that Coe was without it's #1 Starting Defensive Tackle in Jordan Pinckney today.  While he might not have high tackle numbers, the kid could plug up the hole in the middle like none other.  He was sure missed today.

I thought at that point if Coe could have punched in a TD they were only 2 TD's down but with them settling for 3 they were still down three possessions.  I was happy as a Dutch fan to see them go for three.

Doolittle,

Great day for football.  I hope the apple picking went well for you today.  I hope you got to listen to some of the Spartans win today.

Purple Heys,

Sorry for your rams.  I heard they played pretty well for part of the game.  I hope Jr didn't get nicked up any more today.  Is there any chance you will be at the game next week.  If you come out I will have to seriously consider attending.

If Dubuque thinks I will spend more saturdays picking apples to give them luck in their games...they are mistaken!!!  From what I have read on here so far, it sounds like every other game for the Rams...play a team tough for 2 to 3 quarters, then make some mistakes that the other team takes advantage of and the game gets out of hand and looks more impressive than what the reality is.  All in all, a pretty nice day for Iowa in mid-October.  Sunny, 60 degrees, Hawkeyes win, Dubuque wins, day spent with family, kids only argued and beat on each other for 30 minutes out of most hours ::)

If both PH and DF2K4 make it to Mt. Vernon next weekend, I will find a way to get down there as well...even if that means I tell my wife that I am going out to put gas in the car...and come back 4-5 hours later!!!

Sorry to hear of the deaths near Marshalltown and that they also included an IIAC alumnus.  Terrible news to hear.

Congratulations to all of today's winners.  It sounds like the Luther-BV game was a real defensive battle.  The conference championship fate is no longer in only one team's hands.  That Luther-Wartburg matchup is looking a lot bigger than just another rivalry game.

I know there are several games left to be played, but I'm curious, if the IIAC posters voted on COY and they had to do it this week, who would you vote for?  How about POY?

DutchFan2004

I think Durnin has to be up there right now for COY.  I have no idea about COY as there are many game left and I really don't think there is any real front runner for that.

I would say Durnin as well.  If they finish on top, it might come down to a freshman QB, making for a long next 3 years! :'(

Of course, people probably thought it would be forever before Schuring graduated too.

Thank God for my herring eating friends from Luther.  Now, if the Knights can take care of business next week, the battle in Waverly in two weeks could be kind of fun.  It was interesting to hear Wartburg fans cheer wildly every time the Luther/BV score was announced.  I don't think anyone around me thought 6-3 would hold up, but when it was annouced the game was over a huge sigh of relief could be heard.  :-*

It is no gimme next week against the Simpson Storm.  The score comparisons between the Storm's season and the Knights' season looks like it could be a fairly even match at Indianola.  Being the road team in one of those events can be problematic.  :-\

In today's game the Knight offense tried to lose in the first half, but the defense came up with a couple big turnovers with Loras knocking at the door.  The Knight O did have a couple long (50 yard) first half td passes and lead 14-0.  First half stats seemed favorable for Loras.  I don't know what Coach Willis said at half-time, but it worked.  :o

I enjoyed hearing some of the parents of younger Knights talk about the transition their sons have experienced with Coach Willis.  It seems they find him to be more focussed on detail.  If something isn't done correctly they'll run it over and over again until it is correct and then they will run it some more.  Apparently this detail to fundamentals is a difference between the two regimes and it has taken some time for adjustment by some of the Squires.  The good news is, it sounds like the kids are buying into it.  Oh, happy days are here again! :)

I see I couple of my leading choices for car plates have already been taken.   :(

Neither Little Warthog nor I won the motorcycle raffle.  Oh well, it was too cold for me to ride it 150 miles home and Little Warthog doesn't have room in his garage.  I hope it went to a nice home.  :'(
