Heys,

I know you already are but be very proud of Jr today.  He did an outstanding job.  The Dutch refused to account for him time and again and Bush had an easy time of finding that big guy.  They made the Dutch pay for not accounting for him.  The Dutch were very lucky to get away with one today.  I know it was not a win for the Rams but congrats for the great game they played.

Thanks...we'd rather he play poorly and have the Rams finally win one.   :-\

I can understand that sentiment but I think that this could mean good things in the future.  The Rams know that they can play with the teams now but some how has to learn how to close out a game.  IMHO things are looking up for the Rams.

:) >:( ??? :'( >:(   I have so many mixed emotions right now....while I'm happy the rams played well enough to have a chance to win or should have won....I am still upset with the loss..very upset. PH was not making excuses...he was just simply stating the missed opportunities and venting which I don't blame him for. Cornell is so so close...I tip my hat to the Central fans and posters for showing good sportsmanship and class today. Congrats on the win Dutch. Ok now I'm going to go drown my sorrows in some adult beverages. Congrats to all the  IIAC winners.

Cornell has never been close to the Dutch since I became an IIAC fan and Dutch supporter.  I saw huge improvement today in the program.  They are close to getting over the hump.

I wasn't able to listen to the game.  That score sounds like a team that gave up today.  Which is a shame.  While they have been losing this season they have kept a good attitude and have been trying to work out their problems.  Loras is a good team, but I don't think the Duhawks are a 42-0 team.  Very curious to find out just what happened today from the Spartans.

I don't know that I've ever seen such an editorialized "press release" in my life.
-From Simpsons so-called "release" on the game-
On the first Wartburg possession of the fourth quarter, Simpson appeared to have forced another three-and-out when John Wolfe (Jr., Council Bluffs, Lincoln H.S.) batted down a Yordi pass. However, Wolfe was called for pass interference, giving the Knights new life. Five plays later, Yordi took advantage of a breakdown in the Storm defensive coverage and found Vetter for a 65-yard touchdown pass to give Wartburg a 21-10 lead.

Simpson took over the ball with 6:17 remaining and were able to move the ball down to the Wartburg 14 where Gale was able to connect on a 31-yard field goal to make it a one possession game at 21-13. The Simpson onside kick attempt failed with Wartburg recovering the ball at their own 42. Boom rushed for one yard on first down. After a Storm timeout, Yordi called his own number and was tackled for a loss of one yard by Tim Stover (Sr., Muscatine, Iowa, Muscatine H.S.). The Storm called time out again. On third and 10, Yordi appeared to have fumbled an exchange with Boom, but the play was ruled an incomplete shovel pass.

The Knights punted and with the touchback, Simpson got the ball back on their own 20 with 1:30 remaining. Dietz completed passes to LeGrand Bien-Aime (Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Stranahan H.S.) and Tad Stoner (Sr., Carlisle, Iowa, Carlisle H.S.) to advance the ball to the Simpson 39. Dietz rushed for four yards and a first down but on the next play, there was a bad exchanged on a shotgun snap, forcing Dietz to recover the ball at the Simpson 38. After a pair of incomplete passes, Dietz found Stoner for a gain of 15 and a first down at the Wartburg 37. The Storm spiked the ball. On second down, Dietz appeared to have thrown an incomplete pass under a strong Wartburg rush. But the play was ruled as a fumble which Rodney Stevenson recovered and clinched the Knights' victory.

You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Heys, let me add to the congratulations for JR's performance today. When one of our kids do good we all share in it a little. After being on an absoltely horrible high school team, I can share your frustration. The Rams will get it done.

BTW, I hope my posts about the Knights have been objective pointing out the good and bad. After listening to the broadcast today, I'm still not doing backflips about their performance. I know Wartburg gets everyone's best shot, and there is no such thing as an ugly win, we still should be playing better.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

WH: I'm not sure why you call that out as overly editorialized. I think only the last graf could be considered even remotely objectionable, and I wouldn't have hesitated to write it that way myself if it were my game and the game warranted it.

Now this, on the other hand, is over the line, IMHO:

QuoteOn fourth down, Gardner dove for the endzone and had the ball clearly over the goal line but it was controversially determined by the referees that a Heidelberg player knocked the ball loose. The Student Princes recovered the disputed fumble to end the game.

No, she took our boy for a hair cut and our girls shopping.  While I COULD have stayed in and watched games while listening to UD, I chose to go outside and do yard work.  Sunny and not as cold as I thought it would be sounded like a great time to go outside and enjoy this decent weather while it still lasts.  From the sound of it I am glad I chose not to listen to the UD/Loras game.  I did come in for a break and the 2 minutes I listened to drove me back outside.  The UD announcers are Loras fans.  One play they described the great hit the Loras LB put on the UD receiver and what a great LB he is.  Then they added, "oh, UD did get a first down on the play"  at that point I shook my head and went back outside.

Congratulations to Cornell on playing an excellent game today.  I felt that you came out prepared, executed very well, and really did everything that was necessary to win the game.  Man, Heys, was I cursing you for having Jr. when he hauled in that pass and made it an 80 yard play!  After the Rams lost to Grinnell, I pretty much felt that they would have an ugly season.  They may not have won today, but it was the ugliest Central victory I can remember.  The up side was that the Dutch did show a little of the "Find a way" mentality at the end.

Central has got to consistently come into every game with a fire in their belly and a passion to win.  I applaud the Rams for the all too-strong reminder that the Dutch cannot just arrive at the field and expect to win.  It doesn't matter who we are playing, if we don't come to play, we aren't going to be happy with the results.  I was thrilled to win, but I can't say I was happy with the results.  I was hoping for a breather for a change.  It was ugly.  Good thing they don't give points for passion, because it belonged to the Rams today, until OT.  The Dutch found that passion in OT, almost too late.  But when they got it, they were awesome.

Nice to have Lackey and Bandow both and to know that Bandow is still in there fighting to get back his PT.  I thought Wong played very well today and saw him working on firing up the team when they needed to hold in the 4th.  Nice punts by Brondyke, was hoping that we could get some defensive points when we pinned them a couple of times.  Darn that Heys Jr anyway!  He had a great game, Hardman and Bush had great games.  The Rams defense rose to the challenge on 4th down attempts by the Dutch.  We were lucky to escape with a win.  Kick it up a notch or two with the extra week off and come out swinging when you play the Knights.
