I know Wartburg gets everyone's best shot, and there is no such thing as an ugly win, we still should be playing better.
I don't know about that.  Central got Cornell's best shot and there is such a thing as an UGLY win.  I saw a very ugly win today.  I'm just thankful it was a win. :-[

So who on the 3 different times that the writer says, "it appeared to..., but...was called" does it appear to?

WH: I'm not sure why you call that out as overly editorialized. I think only the last graf could be considered even remotely objectionable, and I wouldn't have hesitated to write it that way myself if it were my game and the game warranted it.

Now this, on the other hand, is over the line, IMHO:

QuoteOn fourth down, Gardner dove for the endzone and had the ball clearly over the goal line but it was controversially determined by the referees that a Heidelberg player knocked the ball loose. The Student Princes recovered the disputed fumble to end the game.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

3-0 PSU!  Go Nittany Lions!  I love a good defensive battle where every play is critical.  Must be from watching all those way too tight Dutch wins.

Heys, let me add to the congratulations for JR's performance today. When one of our kids do good we all share in it a little. After being on an absoltely horrible high school team, I can share your frustration. The Rams will get it done.

BTW, I hope my posts about the Knights have been objective pointing out the good and bad. After listening to the broadcast today, I'm still not doing backflips about their performance. I know Wartburg gets everyone's best shot, and there is no such thing as an ugly win, we still should be playing better.

No worries...even W-Hoovie's a good cat in my book...just a little full of himself once in a while.  :o

I generally don't get so lathered up...this one was close enough to taste.  :P

After a couple of Sierra Nevadas, a BBQ'd med.-rare New York, and a soak in the hot tub, I'm mellowing out.   8)

Congratulations to all of today's winners.  I hope my Dutch come out and play the rest of the games the way they finished today's.  They need to focus on each and every week so they have a shot at a share of the crown.  Not sure if my up and down Dutch can do that, but I would like to believe that they have the right players to make it happen.  They just have to play sharp for a solid 60 minutes.

Nice to see Coe win today, I'm sure several teams and their fans will be pulling for a Luther win next week.  That combined with Central winning out the rest of the season would make for a nice result in a rebuilding year for the Dutch.  Unfortunately, Loras, BV and Simpson stand in the way and they will all be tough games, much tougher than I had hoped at the start of the season.  The IIAC reminds me a lot of the WIAC when they would all beat each other up in regular season.  The one thing our conference AQ will have going for them is that they will have been challenged all season long.  I think it helped Central last year and I hope it helps our representative team this year.

Jr. played for an outstanding HS team that was section champ in his junior year...he still does not handle this well, and he never will.  I was proud of his effort today.

He played as hard as he could, after basically being on the trainer's table, not practicing, these last 3 weeks.

I was proud for Travion Hardman to have the kind of game he had today.  He must of been kind of frustrated over the last several games.  I think this will give him a little bounce to his step to finish his senior season.

I was proud for the team as a whole, but they know they still have work to do.  I don't think that the players are all that happy.  That's the way it should be.

Heys, I want to add my sincere compliments on Jr's performance today.  Outside of my utter disgust for how he made the Dutch D look when we were trying to keep Cornell deep in our territory and he kept breaking the Rams out, part of me felt proud to feel like "I 'know' that kid's dad!"  I don't know how he was feeling, but if he wasn't at 100%, I'm darn glad.   ;)  Your Rams are getting there.  When they put their mind to it, they can move mountains.

One thing that Jr has to keep in mind if he did all he could to win he did his job.  The great thing about football is that it is a team game.  No one player can win the game or lose the game for his team.  The QB has to have the other 10 guys do their jobs so he can complete his pass, the RB has to have a hole to run through,  the D has to have all 11 do their job to stop the other team.  I know this does not help a lot but that is true.  I hope this helps Jr.  He did a great job today!!!

WH -  regarding over "editorialized" -  generally not permissible to directly criticize the officiating crew so read between the lines on the release. Stats show Storm penalized 5 for 42 yards and Wartburg 0 for 0 although they did get called for delay of game when Wartburg punt returner signaled fair catch and then ran with it and no whistle -  oh then Simpson called for unsportsmanlike for tackling him.  Figure that one out. Multiple phantom interference calls including the one in the "release" which turned out to be huge while Wartburgs DB's routinely rode Simpson receivers like horses down the side lines and never drew a call.

HOME TEAM did not get treated well by the stripes -

Congrats to Coe on the overtime win today, 22-19.  Coe blew a chance to win the game right at the end of the 4th quarter when they fumbled inside the Luther 5.

Coe did almost nothing on offense all day even though they had the wind and great field position in the 4th quarter.  Both defenses owned the field for most of the day.  Both defenses were very strong as usual up front.

Luther has a very good defense and a solid freshman QB.  The defense played very well today as Coe returned a fumbled kickoff back for a TD and recovered a muffed punt return by a senior Norse WR in the end zone for the other regulation TD.  The lack of being tough in all phases of the game finally did them in.

Luther was up 10-0 at the half even though they ran out of time in the 2nd quarter with the ball at the Coe 4.

Luther also missed an extra point for the 4th time in this year. :-[  It was another bad day to be the special teams coach as Coe outscored the Norse 14-7 in that phase of the game.

The defense is playing great, you have a lead at home, and then you can't be at least average on special teams.  The buzz at the game at Waverly might have been fun next week.

So congrats to Coe for passing for the winning TD when they had not been able to throw the ball all day.  What a crazy game, but Coe has found a way to do this to the Norse in recent years.

What a great day for football in Decorah!  Hopefully all the IIAC venues today were also sunny and cool!  Luther has a beautiful campus especially in the fall.  Congrats to all the Kohawks on their win vs Luther-it was a team effort!  Sure hoping Pinckney, Breitbach, Bakke, Rozum and CJ can get healthy & be back next week!  Coe Defense-YOU ROCK!  Let's do it again next week...BEAT BV!
In the words of Bobby Knight: "I mean, I deeply hope we beat their ass today."

Thanks.

The Dutch are still a more complete team...specials were the ultimate difference.

2 missed PAT's for Cornell.   Making one would have done it.

Pressing your stud FS into service (as the Rams had to) as a kicker is not a substitute for a specialist.  I am absolutely NOT bagging on the outstanding kid who has been asked to be our kicker...he's done all we could ever have asked.  My opinion is that we would benefit from a specialist to handle the kicking.  Easy to say, difficult to get I guess.

Did they get hurt today?  Or were they hurt from last week?  I didn't see all of these guys get hurt last week.
