Heys, I want to add my sincere compliments on Jr's performance today.  Outside of my utter disgust for how he made the Dutch D look when we were trying to keep Cornell deep in our their territory and he kept breaking the Rams out, part of me felt proud to feel like "I 'know' that kid's dad!"  I don't know how he was feeling, but if he wasn't at 100%, I'm darn glad.   ;)  Your Rams are getting there.  When they put their mind to it, they can move mountains.

Thanks.

The Dutch are still a more complete team...specials were the ultimate difference.

2 missed PAT's for Cornell.   Making one would have done it.

Pressing your stud FS into service (as the Rams had to) as a kicker is not a substitute for a specialist.  I am absolutely NOT bagging on the outstanding kid who has been asked to be our kicker...he's done all we could ever have asked.  My opinion is that we would benefit from a specialist to handle the kicking.  Easy to say, difficult to get I guess.

Heys do they not recruit kickers?  Cornell has never really had a good kicker that I can recall.  IMHO that might be an easy sell with PT for that spot to get a kid on campus.

In fairness, they do...I believe the kid they had lined up elected to not attend at the last minute.

This offseason we need to recruit another one.   :)

I kid, I kid...I know you've done a lot better on your diet than I have been able to do.

Like Heys, I had a few drinks to drown my sorrows over a dissapointing season for the team I cheer for.

You da man.  I was able to lose 15 lbs in 3 months but have been stuck in neutral for about 6 weeks now.  I will do better now with you as inspiration.

If I send you a Spartan #10 jersey would you consider wearing it???  You could still go to Central games to give the Dutch good luck...but maybe wearing blue and white might do my Spartans some good ;D

StormChaser:  I'll look at the book score later, but I believe Wartburg was penalized on the fair catch.  There were two penalties.  1st: Wartburg was penalized 5 yards from the point of the fair catch for running with the ball. 2nd: Simpson was penalized 15 yards, not for tackling the guy but for nailing him after he was way out of bounds.  I assume it would have been permisable to lay him out had it been in bounds.

For me it was a great day.  The company was good.  The beer was cold.  The local kids playing for both Simpson and Wartburg did well.  Then the Knights won.  8)

I know its been beaten to death a little on here already, but how important was Hey's Jr. today?! It looked like Hardman and Bush had their own thing going, but Jr. really got the pass game paced so that Travion could find a few more holes than usual.

Such a sad end to the game, but man was it fun during the game.  The crowd was almost giddy with anticipation of a possible victory.  They had their chances, just couldn't find a way to hold off the Dutch.  I know its hard to see the positives after a heartbreaker, but if they can play like they did today the rest of the way they could give teams a scare.

....Glad to hear Loras got the big win against UD today. I'd look at the stats (6 hours after the game) on the Loras website to see how it went down, but of course its not up. At least UD had it...nice day for McGrew, wow, that'll help a win. Gotta get that passing game going, though.
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

WH, YOU GUYS ARE IN THE PLAYOFF AREN'T YOU ?

Weren't there only like 12 4A teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs???   :-\

Great quality "sub-state" games they've added in Iowa HS Football:
8 teams have losing records in 4A
2 teams have losing records in 3A
1 team has a losing record in 2A
5 teams have losing records in 1A (1 is 3-6!)
3 teams have losing records in A (2 are 3-6!)
3 teams have losing records in 8 Man (1 is 3-6!)

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it. Minus three defensive starters, without a reliable quarterback or a passing game of any kind, and with a member of the infamous Loras crew at referee, Coe found a way to win. It took two special teams touchdowns and a defensive safety before the offense scored the winning TD, on a deep pass no less, in overtime. I'm pretty sure that's not how they drew it up, but a win is a win and this one feels particularly sweet. Way to go guys!

P.S. Luther has one heck of a young quarterback.

nice to see the Knights grind out another  win today on the road.  grind, grind, grind-

As far as the last post about the playoff format.
I have mixed feeling on the new playoff format.  "play in game" if you will.    I think it's too many teams.  Going from 16 to 32 is a bit ridiculous.  I think 24 would be a much better number and then you won't have teams with losing records making it.

Reason I'm mixed:  My Jr year we go 7-2 in 1A  and win a state title(one of very few teams at the time to win it as a wild card)  Sr year move up to 2A and go 9-1 and don't make the playoffs.
I know there's always a couple tough districts that probably deserve 3 maybe 4 teams to make the playoffs.  I just think 32 teams is a joke.

Congrats to Coe on the overtime win today, 22-19.  Coe blew a chance to win the game right at the end of the 4th quarter when they fumbled inside the Luther 5.

Coe did almost nothing on offense all day even though they had the wind and great field position in the 4th quarter.  Both defenses owned the field for most of the day.  Both defenses were very strong as usual up front.

Luther has a very good defense and a solid freshman QB.  The defense played very well today as Coe returned a fumbled kickoff back for a TD and recovered a muffed punt return by a senior Norse WR in the end zone for the other regulation TD.  The lack of being tough in all phases of the game finally did them in.

Luther was up 10-0 at the half even though they ran out of time in the 2nd quarter with the ball at the Coe 4.

Luther also missed an extra point for the 4th time in this year. :-[  It was another bad day to be the special teams coach as Coe outscored the Norse 14-7 in that phase of the game.

The defense is playing great, you have a lead at home, and then you can't be at least average on special teams.  The buzz at the game at Waverly might have been fun next week.

So congrats to Coe for passing for the winning TD when they had not been able to throw the ball all day.  What a crazy game, but Coe has found a way to do this to the Norse in recent years.

What a great day for football in Decorah!  Hopefully all the IIAC venues today were also sunny and cool!  Luther has a beautiful campus especially in the fall.  Congrats to all the Kohawks on their win vs Luther-it was a team effort!  Sure hoping Pinckney, Breitbach, Bakke, Rozum and CJ can get healthy & be back next week!  Coe Defense-YOU ROCK!  Let's do it again next week...BEAT BV!

Did they get hurt today?  Or were they hurt from last week?  I didn't see all of these guys get hurt last week.
Only Rozum was injured today.  Was taken off in the "meat wagon" and don't think he return even to the sidelines today.
In the words of Bobby Knight: "I mean, I deeply hope we beat their ass today."

Charlie Kohawk

If this is what the stats show, it must be changed. According to the Coe Web site: "On third and one, Hammes fumbled the ball at the three yard line, where the Norse recovered."

No way that was Sam's fumble.
