OK, perhaps I should look at time of possession, because as I investigate further I discover the Wartburg O is averaging about 6 more points a game than they have in the 3 previous seasons.  With the running game woes it seems the offense is struggling.  I could be wrong, perhaps Wartburg is just having to rely on Mr. Yordi's arm and quick strikes.  I am shocked that the offensive points/game is as high as it is so far this season.  I guess this talk of MVP Yordi isn't all that far fetched.

It could be a different year than in most.  If Wartburg loses to the Norse I mean Rockets ;D ;D ;D they will be in second place a tie for the league lead.  If there is a log jam at the top then all bets are off on POY.  If the Knights wind up on top then there is a very strong case for Yordi.  About the D I just thought that would be the strength of the Knights this year.  I didn't think they would need to rely on the O to win games for them.  If that makes sense or clears things up.

Here are the stats I was thinking of.  The Knight posters were all talking like this D should be comparable to the 03 Knights

10.1 points per game   03

16.3 points per game   08

160.3 passing yards given up in 03

177.8 passing yards given up in 08

61.2 rushing yards given up in 03

147.8 rushing yards given up in 08

221.6 total yards given up in 03

325 total yards given up in 08

I am not saying that they D is not good just not what I was expecting.

POY talk got me thinking...

When is the last time a defensive player won conference MVP?

Could be Jeff Sanger - 2000?

This is the correct answer.  Last one before that was Wartburg's Vince Penningroth back in '95.

Donnenworth in a travesty in '03 (sorry to bring that up again)
And I'll second this statement 100 times over.

No worries.  I'm actually checking the forecast now to see just how many layers to dress in tonight.  I'm very happy that rain and wind won't be a factor.  I can handle cold, but I'd just as rather not be cold and wet (that's what she said).

DF2004 I would agree with you that alot of us thought the D would be the strength of the team this year ( not saying they aren't) just thought they would have played better earlier in the year.

I don't know if this carries over to college teams, but Dubuque 4A schools Hempstead and Wahlert each scored road upsets tonight in substate action. #3 seed CR Washington looked like the class of the field in a 62-14 pounding of Muscatine. Looks like I'll be headed to Dubuque on Monday, since the IHSAA won't make Hempstead travel twice in a row. Go Warriors! Go Kohawks!

Huge game for the Knights this week against the red headed step-children from Decorah.

prediction: 24-17 WB- too tough at home- yordi throws for 250 with 2 td's

meanwhile, I thought I'd let Jim speak about turnovers &  playoffs.

John L. Smith has been out of coaching for what, 2 years now and no one has given him his own TV show yet?  How is that possible?  That's a situation that badly needs to be rectified.

Regional rankings are out today and there is nary a sign of any IIAC team in the West Region.

http://www.d3football.com/dailydose/category/regional-rankings/

1. Willamette 7-0 8-0
2. Occidental 6-0 6-0
3. Monmouth 8-0 8-0
4. UW-Stevens Point 3-1 6-1
5. UW-Whitewater 5-1 6-1
6. Cal Lutheran 5-1 5-1
7. Redlands 5-1 5-1
8. Northwestern (Minn.) 5-1 7-1
9. Concordia-Moorhead 4-2 5-2
10. St. John's 5-2 6-2

Northwestern?  Please...they dropped from their schedule my beloved Rams because they we tired of the stain we put on their record for the past 2 years.  Their loss is to Simpson.  Their one "quality" win is against UW-RF by 7 pts...UW-W beat that same team 52-24.  I'd take the Cobbers, the Johnnies, the Tommies, the Gusties, the Knights (MIAC and IIAC), the Dutch, the Beavers over NW every day of the week and twice on Sunday.  Don't color me convinced about Monmouth either.

My take...(I know, read the FAQ's, but no way NW/Minn. is a top ten team)
1. UW-Stevens Point
2. UW-Whitewater
3. Willamette
4. Concordia-Moorhead
5. UW-EC
6. St John's
7. Occidental
8. Wartburg
9. Redlands
10. Monmouth.

That might be close to reality Heys.  I assume you think Redlands and Oxy will take care of Cal Lu.  I think your top ten might be a week or two early.  I also think that Willamette at 8-0 has earned #1.  I think that is the reward for not having lost.

Okay, Dutch, this week has the match ups with the best chance to get you back in the hunt.  Lots of pick-ems going to Loras this week.

Bring your A game for 60 minutes, more if required!  Let's get back in the hunt!

Thanks for the info BeaverNation.

Welcome to the board.  Look forward to hearing more from you.

Former BV coach Joe Hadechek and his Union of La Porte City team lost last night.  The Knights go 7-3 on the season in their first year in 3A.  With last seasons 6-3 record he is now 13-6 in his 2 years at La Porte.

Welcome BeaverNation.

Glad to see the Pella teams do so well last night.  Should be some good recruiting potential right here in our own back yard.  Doesn't hurt that both Pella and Pella Christian have Central grads coaching, and you know Kac would be happy to try to send his grads our way.
