Thanks for lesson Klomp, I still wonder what's up with losing 21-0 after a qtr and a half, then going 28-10 the rest of the way?  I know the lack of a running game is probably the biggest culprit in a QB of the minute season, but where's the D?

Congrats to Loras on the huge rushing day for McGrew, radio made it sound like the O-line was dominating the Dutch.

Congrats to Warts for coming through on Goal line D, then finding their own running game.  Looks like the Dutch get to play spoilers next week and the Wart fans are on the Dutch bandwagon for a game.

On the bright side, a great day for a round of golf, shot a 38 - d*** good for this hacker, so in spite of the loss, I'll still mix a rusty nail or two tonight.

Congrats to the Beavers today.  Way to take are of business on the road.

The Beavers can take a huge step toward locking up the conference championship in Stormy Pond next weekend against the Dutch.

There are two things that I hate and those are people who are intollerant of other peoples cultures and the DUTCH!

Central just can't seem to get started at the beginning of the game.  I thought that when Loras went up 14-0 we had them right where we wanted them.   ;)  But we didn't get the come back started until we were down 21 and we just can't do that.  I was proud that the team battled back the way they did.  They didn't give up which is a real good sign for the future.  The defense just could not stop McGrew.  They had a good O-line, but we got to McGrew and he still gained several more yards.  We couldn't wrap him up and get him down.  Maybe we were doing too much arm wrapping and not enough putting the shoulder down and knocking him over.  I know it is more common for the POY to come from the conference champ, but I really think McGrew is a deserving candidate.  Wartburg with Yordi is barely where we thought they would be, I really thought WB could have gone undefeated.  Loras with McGrew is finishing much higher than I, and most on this board, would have expected.

I think this year's Central team will be a good foundation for some great future Central squads.  We have a lot of young guys getting some quality PT.  They have learned not to give up and I think their come back last week and their near comeback this week shows that they have some great potential.  Like I said, I feel bad for this year's seniors, but they just had the bad luck to enroll at Central the year, in some cases two, after a phenominal class.  Last year's team had several players that were able to come back a fifth season because of injuries in prior years.  I don't think we have ever seen that many in one year, i.e. all 3 captains were 5th year seniors last year.  That really made last year's team more senior dominated than it would have ordinarily been.  It was great for last year's team, but spelled trouble for this year because they just had to replace too many guys.  I think we have some replacements, but they are still learning how to really play together.  Unfortunately, they are spotting too many teams too many points.

Huge game for McGrew, but John Blesz was the player of the game for Loras.  Their kicker gets hurt during warm-ups, so at the last minute starting TE becomes starting kicker.  Makes all 4 PATs, and a 27 yd field goal that ended up being the decisive points!

Newshound

The freshman tailback from Wartburg (Lamar Harvey) has a promising future in this league. He's only 5-7 and 165 pounds, but he's elusive and was just bouncing off Luther defenders. He was in the training room afterward getting a lot of treatment on his back -- it's some type of contusion. He had like seven runs for 7 yards or more -- something Wartburg hasn't had at all this season. It definitely takes a lot of pressure off Yordi.

Vetter continues to have a great senior year -- 10 receptions for 96 yards.

It could be a strange ending for the Wartburg seniors. They've talked all along about winning a conference title. Well, they may get a share of the league title, and they still might not make the playoffs. I wouldn't count on Central going to Storm Lake and winning. Once again, 8-2 may not be good enough for the Knights.

Luther, meanwhile, continues to be a work in progress, but the program is headed in the right direction. If the Norse can find a couple playmakers to complement Reynolds, this team could be a threat to make a strong run in '09.

Kohawk Remedy

Tough loss for the Kohawk and their seniors today.  Kudos to BV, they looked like  a good team.  Coe's freshman seems to be getting better, but it's just going to take more experience for him to get better.  Tough way for the seniors to go out at home by going 0-5 at home this year.  The play calling was a little questionable for the kohawks today...on 4th&1 and down by 10 coe kicks a FG; while I understand that it was a 2 score game, the offense was driving it's best of the day at the point and I believe could have picked up the 1st.  And then the reverse pass that ended the game by BV intercepting in the endzone seemed a little questionable.  They were driving again like earlier in the game and then decided to throw in some trickery when they could have just pounded it in with Hammas.  However, hindsight is 20-20.  The thing that hurt Coe the most was the penalty for 12 men on the field on a 4th down punt, which gave BV a first down that resulted in a TD.  The one highlight of the game was Tate Harrison recording 22 tackles to break the school record for a single game! He is a beast in the middle!

Hopefully Coe can finish out strong by taking the their frustrations against Dubuque.  I would like to make the trip to check out the new stadium, but not sure if I will be able to just yet.

Good luck Bevoers!  I would rather see you win the Conference than Wartburg!!

Congrats to Cornell beating up on BYE this afternoon!

You will also note the following interesting stat:  With Central's loss, every IIAC team lost the week after playing the Rams.  Credit the Rams with the assist.   ;)

While this may be the same thing as mentioning a perfect game to the pitcher late in the 8th inning...Only Luther has a chance to break this the following week vs. Loras.

BV would need to qualify for the playoffs and win...tough order.

I couldn't have said it better myself, so I won't try. I agree with every single point you made, particularly the illegal participation. How does that happen in the ninth game of the season, after a timeout?! It was a critical mistake. I can somewhat justify the field goal, but it seemed way too conservative a call for a team with nothing to lose and plenty to prove. Two weeks until Dubuque and the final game of a season turned sour for the Kohawks and a stellar class of seniors. Last chance to show what you're made of fellas.

Think of it this way.  The Coe senior class has something the Wartburg senior class as of yet does not have...a conference championship ;D

Didn't realize that.  Given the situation, that is a huge accomplishment, particularly because you would not have won without those points.  At the same time, you wouldn't have been in position to get those PAT's and the FG without McGrew.  Which came first the chicken or the egg?  You could certainly make a case for both.  The whole Loras team was playing well when it comes right down to it.

A losing record
Fixed it for you.
Also, they were never able to beat Wartburg. Haven't been able to since '03.

Can't explain the illegal participation, but if its anything like what we do at Dowling, personnel for the Defense and Special Teams are changing on a weekly basis even now in the playoffs as injuries happen and we find out guys flat out can't get the job done. May have been part of the case here, but those penalties sure sting that keep drives alive.
