 Seriously, I wouldn't call losing to Coe and Central at the end of 04 folding. Nor losing to Central this year when they controlled their own destiny. I'm not sure how healthy Cornell is this week. Both Hardman and Bush missed some time last week with injuries. The hardest hit of the game Bush delivered on a Luther DB on the sidelines when he could of, and should have went out of bounds. Next play he threw an interception. He come back for another 3 and out, but I don't think he got hit on any of those. It's to bad if he got hurt delivering a needless hit. But it was a heck of a collision.
  I think a lot of BVs success this year can be attributed to a previosly unsung Senior class. They will be the difference in Mt. Vernon Saturday.

Are we taking any wagers???  With this economy, I could use some easy money!

DBQ1965 - You still have me on the Luther list! :)

Maybe I was figuring Luther needed all the fan base it could get.

Sorry 'bout that.  Its now fixed.

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Just back from my first Dome game of the weekend.  Lenox over CWL in 8-man play 40-20.  Heading back for Cedar Falls vs. CR Wash later tonight, plus at least one if not two games both tomorrow and Monday.

I will never cease to amaze me how quickly 8-man football has caught on here in Iowa.  Football is probably the only sport where you can pare the game down like that so that smaller schools can still compete on a high level.

I think the Rams will be at full strength tomorrow.

Interesting game note:  It's a battle of the Bladt brothers.  Older bro Don starts at Safety for the Rams and younger bro elected to go to BV this year and plays LB.

Heys, I can think of several things for you to do in your 83 degree weather, and most of them start with F. And end in yourself.

Just kidding.

Maybe.

BV beat Cornell tomorrow because Cornell has no idea how to win a game.  We might not have a clue how to win the conference, but we do know how to win games and not be 0fer.

BV has a lot to play for tomorrow.  Its called SECOND PLACE.  I realize that second place is the first loser, but no one would have given these kids a snowballs chance in Haiti's to win the conference let alone finish second.

This is great year for the program and it will help with recruiting.  We are still a few kids short of climbing the mountain but we will get there.  In the mean time I am sure the WHoovy will still doubt us the next time we get close, df1 will unleash another great yo mamma joke, and everyone else will be quoting SK on folding like a cheap card table.  You know what, they are right and one of these years we will prove them wrong, it just was not meant to be this year.

In the mean time, congratulations to all the IIAC seniors playing their last games today and a special shout out to the Boys in blue tomorrow lacing it up once last time as a Beaver.  You did accomplish something no team has done in quite some time, and that is to finish in second place.  Take care of business so you are not the laughing stock of the conference.

First Cornell Joke Of The Day

A Central grad, a Simpson grad, and a Cornell grad walk into a bar.  The Central grad gets a beer, the Simpson grad gets a shot of cheap rot gut grain alcohol and the Cornell grad gets a glass of Iowa vintage 2006 chardonnay.  Pretty soon the Central guy and the Simpson guy get into a heated discussion about the merits of their alma maters' football teams.  The Cornell alum says, "At Cornell we save this sort of passion for deep philosophical issues or vital moral questions.  There is one thing about your conversation though that I have to ask about.  What is this football you speak of?"

Interesting that cumulative records pair ...

Cornell and Dubuque, 13 & 14 wins respectively
Loras and Luther, 27 & 28 wins respectively
BV and Simpson, 32 & 34 wins respectively
Coe stands alone with 43 wins
Central and Wartburg, 51 & 55 wins respectively

And Central stands alone at 5 conference titles! ;D

5 Words or Less is recovering from pneumonia that he contracted while watching the Cornell vs. Luther game in Decorah last Saturday.  Therefore I, 5 Words or More (aka the evil twin), will try to explain how to make tables.  Besides, this is way over both his word limit and IQ.

In order to avoid confusing the computer software when discussing the how-to's I'm going to substitute curly brackets for the square brackets.  The final example that I give will use square brackets and you can view the final code by hitting the quote key.

There are three checkerboard icons in the middle of bottom row of tags.  The first is unshaded and produces {table}{/table} when hit.  This tells the computer that everyting within the "begin table" and "end table" is going to be ... a table.  The second checkerboard icon has the top row of squares shaded in blue.  This icon displays {tr}{/tr} and indicates the beginning and end of each row of input.  The third checkerboard icon has only one square shaded in blue and displays {td}{/td}.  This is a table delimited field or "cell" in Excel terms.  Use all three icons to build a nested table.

The easiest way that I've found to build a table is to hit the table icon and then hit return to create space between the brackets.  Then type in the information desired.  Example ...

{table}
Football IIAC ALL
Wartburg 7-1 8-2
Buena Vista 5-2 6-3
Central 4-3 6-3
Simpson 4-3 6-3
Loras 4-3 5-4
Luther 4-3 5-4
Coe 4-3 3-6
Dubuque 1-6 2-7
Cornell 0-7 0-9
{/table}

Then I highlight each line first making it a row by hitting the row icon- Example ...

{table}
{tr}Football IIAC ALL{/tr}
{tr}Wartburg 7-1 8-2{/tr}
   ...
{tr}Cornell 0-7 0-9{/tr}
{/table}

Highligt each data point and hit effect tags (Bold, Color, Underline, etc.) BEFORE hitting the "cell" icon.  It's important to remember that the effect tags build outward from the highlighted data and that the {td} {/td} must bracket all data within a "cell."  I've changed the color of each data item in the heading line to make it easier to see.  Example ...

{table}
{tr}{td}{u}{color=green}{b}Football{/b}{/color}{/u}{/td}{td}{b}{u}IIAC{/u}{/b}{/td}{td}{b}{u}ALL{/u}{/b}{/td}{/tr}
{tr}{td}Wartburg{/td}{td}{center}7-1{/center}{/td}{td}{center}8-2{/center}{/td}{/tr}
   ...
{tr}{td}Cornell{/td}{td}{center}0-7{/center}{/td}{td}{center}0-9{/center}{/td}{/tr}
{/table}

You can build a evenly spaced table in a few minutes once you get the hang of it.  The finished table looks something like this ...

Football             IIAC   ALL
Wartburg
7-1
8-2
Buena Vista
5-2
6-3
Central
4-3
6-3
Simpson
4-3
6-3
Loras
4-3
5-4
Luther
4-3
5-4
Coe
4-3
3-6
Dubuque
1-6
2-7
Cornell
0-7
0-9

This table took me 6 minutes to layout after the initial typing was done (whereas the whole post took me roughly 3 hours).  Hint: I also had to add spaces in the heading line in order to create space between the columns after I saw the preview.  Adding spaces in front of the {/u} extended the heading line under "Football" while adding lines outside the bracketed underline markers created column space.

IF you want to pick out an individual line(s) in a quoted response message, make sure to leave the begin/end table brackets and delete the undesired rows.

I know one that is handling it just fine.  Just talked to him on the phone and said that game time temp is possibly 95 tommorow and I am going to freeze my hind parts off at the Dutch game tomorrow, he just laughed at me.   :D :D :D

Old Dutch:  You make an interesting point.  The Dutch have one more title, but the Knights have been more consistant from 2001 to 2008.  Yet if you had asked most posters which team had the most conference wins since 2001 nearly all would have said the Dutch.  I guess it means people can tell you who won it all, but most don't know who was 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.

Warthog:  I have a definite bias,but I saw someone say Wartburg has 16 years of 7 wins or more.  I had no idea the streak had been that long for the Orange and Black.  As we've seen this year,that kind of consistency is very hard to accomplish, The Dutch have a huge battle tomorrow to reach 7 wins this year, and then there was that unsavory 5 and 6 win seasons in 03 and 04.

I'll be on the Warty bandwagon next week where ever you end up.  Get those wins for the IIAC
