My Picks                 Final Standings

Warrburg               Wartburg
Coe                        BV
Central                   Simpson
Simpson                 Loras
BV                          Central
UD                          Luther
Loras                      Coe
Luther                     UD
Cornell                    Cornell

COY:  Glogowski         Either Anderson or Willis will get it.
POY:  Breitbach          McGrew should get this.

Who would have picked UD, Coe, and Cornell to be the bottom 3 in the conference?  Who would have thought that Burg, BV, and Simpson would be the top 3.  Glogowski really had a nice first year down in WARREN county.  Also I was buying into the hype regarding Breitbach out of Coe.  I really never heard much about him or found much about him.  Was he injured or did Coe just not use him to his full potential?  Or does he not have any potential?

Thanks kohawk, +k

Here were mine:

1. Wartburg
2. Central
3. Simpson
4. Buena Vista
5. Coe
6. Dubuque
7. Loras
8. Luther
9. Cornell

COY: Willis
MVP: Yordi...seems to be a popular pick
Kicker: Central's
Seed: 3rd

I thought I originally had Loras and UD switched around, but guess not.  I also remember thinking that UD would be way down without Jackson, but I must have let other preseason picks sway my thinking!

I think Anderson should definitely get COY (didn't the preseason IIAC release even have BV slotted in 7th?) and it would be a shame if McGrew didn't get POY.

No thats not it, they're much more recent and less effeminate.  Very popular recently, I'll bet other posters we'll know them
Given your username...could it be The Beatles?

No No No - I may be aged like a fine scotch, but with kids in Colege of late I keep up with the times.  I know the pic is not in original perspective, but fans of his group ought to recognize them.  #1 son saw them in Ames recently

I hate to ruin the speculation, but the band is O.A.R. (Of A Revolution).  Not to be confused with O.A.S., which is One Armed Scot.  Some of you folks might remember them from their 2001 hit "Crazy Game of Poker" or their current chart-topper "Shattered."

IIAC senior classes conference records...

Central 27-5 (3 conference titles)
Wartburg 26-6 (1 conference title)
Coe 21-11 (1 conference title)
BV 17-15
Luther 14-18
Simpson 14-18
Dubuque 12-20
Loras 12-20
Cornell 1-31

Purple Heys

Every IIAC team that beat Cornell, lost their next game.

A perfect 7-0 for the Rams.  One might even say we beat everybody into next week.    :D

I really don't care to review my preseason projections. Way to go out winners Kohawks!
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Here's how I did with the preseason predictions:

Actual         Prediction
Standings
Wartburg     Wartburg
BV              Central
Simpson       Dubuque
Loras          Simpson
Central        Coe
Luther         BV
Coe            Loras
Dubuque     Cornell
Cornell        Luther

COY
???      Coach Glow from Simpson

POY
???      Yordi

IIAC Rep Playoff Seed
???      3rd

I vastly underestimated BV, Loras, and Luther, and gave Central and Dubuque too much credit.  At least the team at the top came out the way I predicted.  I doubt I'll be right about COY, and probably have a one out of three shot at POY (I think its going to come down to Yordi, Reutzel, and McGrew with McGrew getting the nod).  Playoff seed I will probably be a couple spots too far north.

Thanks for the information doolittle.  Kind of funny how everyone talked about the lack of numbers at BV and the lack of talent that BV had rolling into Storm Lake.  But over the last 4 years there are only 4 teams that have a record above .500 and the Beavers are one of them.  Say what you want, but talk about some job security for the coaching staff especially after this past season.  I look for some great things out of the 09 recruiting class.  Looks for the Beavers to be back in the hunt in 09.

For the time being I will jump on the Wartburg waggon and wish the best of luck in the playoffs.  Please do not lay an egg and please please make a game out out whomever you may be playing.

Dutchie....Side note for you.  The only two teams who had a right to talk about the playoffs (Eg: Knights and Beavers) have said little not nothing about the playoffs.  Figured you might think that was interesting.

Not being smart enough to learn the 5WOL guide to table building I will just add this...

Central 7-1 : 8-0 : 8-0 : 4-4
Wartburg 6-2 : 6-2 : 7-1 : 7-1
Coe 7-1 : 5-3 : 5-3 : 4-4

Luther 5-3 : 1-7 : 4-4 : 4-4
Simpson 3-5 : 3-5 : 3-5 : 5-3
Dubuque 1-7 : 5-3 : 5-3 : 1-7
Loras  2-6 : 4-4 : 1-7 : 5-3
Cornell 1-7 : 0-8 : 0-8 : 0-8

So, where do the Knights get shipped today?

Oxy? Williamette? Whitewater? Monmouth? Or somewhere else?

If travel is the committee's first priority, here's my West bracket:
Oxy at Williamette
Aurora at Monmouth
Wartburg at UW-Whitewater
St. John's at UW-Stevens Point

If the committee doesn't make it a priority, I have:
Wartburg at Williamette
Aurora at Oxy
Monmouth at UW-Stevens Point
St. John's at UW-Whitewater

I think losses by Cortland and Wabash on Saturday will send Mt. Union to East Bracket and keep North Central in the North.

Walston Hoover

I hope theyu do make travel a priority because it is a priority for me right now.

You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Walston Hoover

Here's Pat's predictions. Hope they are accurate. Although I'm not sure why if the top 2 are playing each other, it doesn't just go 3-8, 4-7, and 5-6.

West bracket
1. Willamette
2. Occidental
3. Monmouth
4. Stevens Point
5. Whitewater (C)
6. St. John's
7. DePauw (C)
8. Wartburg
Yes, DePauw. And of course, the NCAA will pit the top two seeds in this bracket against each other. It's their way. Wartburg at UW-Stevens Point, DePauw at Monmouth and St. John's at Whitewater to finish out the pairings.

When DePauw was selected, Rowan, Wooster and Cal Lutheran were left on the board. All with two losses. All with opponents' winning percentages over .530. DePauw with the best opponents' opponents winning percentage. And DePauw with a win against a regionally ranked team, in Wabash, on the road at that. None of the others have

That is a very interesting stat.  I wonder if the Rams softened up some teams for the next team?  ;D ;D

I hope the committee will make decisions without travel being a primary consideration so that Willamette and Oxy don't have to meet each other in the first round.
