Walston Hoover

Really, REALLY looking forward to Saturday. Never been to WW and I hope I can get some things in my schedule changed around to make it there.
Last thought on the MM game-
Their football team was the real deal. Defensively, they were the aggressors in the first half. They also were running very hard and often it took more than one Knight to tackle them.
Their QB will terrorize defenses for 2 more years. Very much in the mold of Donnenworth from 5 years ago. Was patient sitting in the pocket, and was just athletic enough to escape pressure and complete on the run.
Their physical nature didn't last though, and as the KNight discovered they could run on them, the defense started to wear down. Offensively, the tackles that were broke in the first half were not broke in the second half.
Most of the stuff that happened there would have normally been overlooked, but with all of it happening in one place, and then getting treated by the fans on their home side like we did, I was in no mood for playing nice by the time my first postgame comment was made yesterday.
There was a none-to-happy fan from the Scots yelling at an event staff worker as the teams left the field and he turned to me and said "Man we have some real jerks around here."
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

dutchfan1

After a long Thanksgiving weekend at home (with my Wartburg family) where we were cheering about the Knights victory, I was prepared to come on here and offer congrats. Instead I find post-game bickering. Come on, insulting their newly rennovated stadium is kind of low... if Wartburg had hosted, visitors would be complaining about the lack of visitors accomodations, too.

I'm a little surprised at the annimosity on both sides in here -- the conversation was so good (read: civil) last week. I thought everyone had made nice. Monmouth shows all of the signs of being a classy program. Congrats, Scots, on a fantastic season, and best of luck next year.

Congrats to the Evil Empire on playing another week. Good Luck next week in Wisconsin! Wish it were Central making the trip....

-Wartburg fan for another week

Well I might as well pile on with my comments about the game. I didn't attend, so I'll leave the comments about the fans and facilities to those who were there, although i find no restroo facilities in the stadium confines rather unusual. I did watch most of the second half on the feed from MC and it was grerat to see our guys play with intensity and not give up until the final horn. I'm also glad Vetter has a short memory.

Congrats to Monmouth for a great season. You should be proud of your team and not dwell on how the season ended. In the playoffs, every team ends with a loss except one. Coming to this board to vent against our fans doesn't help. Support your players and coaches and encourage them instead of question them. They had to do a lot of things right to get to where they were.

Now on to Whitewater!

FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Looks like this board could use a little civility so I wanted to come over and welcome the Wartburg fans and team for this weekend's festivities at the Perk.  It is a great tailgating event and game atmosphere.  For very selfish reasons, I was so glad to see you guys win as it meant I get another tailgate at the Perk this weekend.  Red cups are optional as you will find a very tolerant atmosphere in the parking lot.  We do not hassle our visitors as we prefer to let our beloved Hawks do that on the field.  ;)   Even have a few port-a-potties in the lot although not as many as in years past, why I have no idea.  Also, for those adverse to that, walk across the street to the Williams Center and you will find the inside, clean and warm ones but that takes too much time away from the tailgating for me.  And, of course, there are facilities in the staduim along with concessions behind the grandstand.  Now, on to the bad news.  After a few years of millions spent on a new scoreboard, field turf, brick entrance, etc, it seems the upkeep of the visitors stands was neglected.   ???  So, after a complaint, it was discovered that they did not meet new codes and were razed a few weeks ago before we played the Johnnies in the first round. SOOOOOOOOO, that means that visitors will share the home grandstands with the Warhawks fans, students, volunteer band members....well.......you get the picture.  Now the good news is that it seats about 10,000 people so there is plenty of room for all.  In fact, for the first round, the north half of the grand stands, (toward the scoreboard,) was designated for Johnnie fans and all got along swimmingly, as far as I know.  Next year, I expect to see bright, shiny, new, up-to-code, visitor bleachers back where they belong, on the opposite side of the field!   ;) Anyway, it is a happening great time at the Perk on game day and all are welcome to join in. BTW, don't forget your long johns and you might want to throw in a snow shovel!   ;D

Best of luck to the "Evil Empire" this week and I may be able to catch part of the game @UW-Wastewater.

Is that because we lay waste to our opponents?    ;) :D ;D
    Sorry, couldn't resist!

However, Monmouth beat who was on their schedule and should have beaten Wartburg if not for a horrific error in coaching judgement.

You can't talk about if's in football.  there are a thousand IF's over the course of the year.  i didnt watch the game, listen to it, or anything.  from what i've read by both teams, Wartburg wanted it more.

I didnt come on here to vent or anything. I simply replied to hostility that was unwarranted. I just felt like Walston did a complete 180 on his civility and class leading up to the game. I'm over it.

The problem I had at the Monmouth-Wartburg game was the tailgating and security. The reason why that made me mad is because plastic cups and beer had always been accepted on campus UNTIL the football game. What I mean is on Friday we could have sat outside and played bags drinking out of plastic cups and nothing would have been said. Now that there are outsiders on campus no one was allowed to do anything. Why the double standard? I was in shock.

Boom was a ton. When he got hurt there towards the end I had mixed feelings. I never like to see anyone get hurt playing sports, but I thought that him being slowed down was the only chance Monmouth had of stopping him. I was glad to see him come back in the game later.

Question: Monmouth played Wartburg last year and the year before. Monmouth played Loras this year. Will Monmouth play Loras to open the season again? I am not sure what kind of agreements are made in non-con but I think Monmouth has a tradition of home and homes. If any of you know I would appreciate an answer.

Haha ok, how about "hads?"    Had I been coaching Monmouth in the final 1:42, then they win.

Good Luck to Wartburg in the game at UW-Whitewater. Will there be any video to this game? I know I will be able to find it on audio.

Yes, Monmouth will host Loras to open the 2009 season.

Not at all, did you read what I said? I specifically said in the last 1:42. Like I have said about 6 times now, Coach Bell is a terrific coach. I just think he made an awful decision in the heat of battle.

I had the right answer, but being from Wisconsin and in the cheese biz, I wasn't sure if I qualified. Man the battle lines are going to get blurry this week. Not sure where to hide from the friendly fire.
