I didnt come on here to vent or anything. I simply replied to hostility that was unwarranted. I just felt like Walston did a complete 180 on his civility and class leading up to the game. I'm over it.

The problem I had at the Monmouth-Wartburg game was the tailgating and security. The reason why that made me mad is because plastic cups and beer had always been accepted on campus UNTIL the football game. What I mean is on Friday we could have sat outside and played bags drinking out of plastic cups and nothing would have been said. Now that there are outsiders on campus no one was allowed to do anything. Why the double standard? I was in shock.

Boom was a ton. When he got hurt there towards the end I had mixed feelings. I never like to see anyone get hurt playing sports, but I thought that him being slowed down was the only chance Monmouth had of stopping him. I was glad to see him come back in the game later.

Question: Monmouth played Wartburg last year and the year before. Monmouth played Loras this year. Will Monmouth play Loras to open the season again? I am not sure what kind of agreements are made in non-con but I think Monmouth has a tradition of home and homes. If any of you know I would appreciate an answer.

Response to this page of posts:

However, Monmouth beat who was on their schedule and should have beaten Wartburg if not for a horrific error in coaching judgement.

You can't talk about if's in football.  there are a thousand IF's over the course of the year.  i didnt watch the game, listen to it, or anything.  from what i've read by both teams, Wartburg wanted it more.

Haha ok, how about "hads?"    Had I been coaching Monmouth in the final 1:42, then they win.

Good Luck to Wartburg in the game at UW-Whitewater. Will there be any video to this game? I know I will be able to find it on audio.

I think your had supposes that you as coach would have had them in the same position does it not?

Not at all, did you read what I said? I specifically said in the last 1:42. Like I have said about 6 times now, Coach Bell is a terrific coach. I just think he made an awful decision in the heat of battle.

Sorry I missed that part.  I didn't know that they had a coach for the final 1:42 of a game.  I stand corrected.

There you go Dsquared. This makes the 7th time now!
Also, the "slaughterhouse" is a 2pt win? You guys have taken everything way out of context and blown my opinionated analysis of the game into p*ssing and moaning.

The slaughterhouse isn't a 2-point win.  It is the futility that IS the MWC.  The conference champ on a yearly basis gets thrown to some better team to be eaten up and spit out.  This year, it happened to be Monmouth against WB.  In recent history, it has been St. Norbert's getting thrown to the St. John's wrecking crew... but the results are nonetheless consistent.  A team that is "worse" than your precious Scots now has as many wins in this post-season as your entire conference does since 2000.  The fact that the MWC is one of the automatic bids floors me... maybe it's time to look at taking more WIAC schools, more MIAC schools, or dare I say it... 2 IIAC schools... on a more frequent basis and leave the MWC champs hoping and praying for an at-large bid.

On a side note... Alfie... good to see you posting up here.  What are the holiday plans for you and the family?  Will you be down at D&E's in Cedar Rapids pre-Christmas?  My last day will be Tuesday the 23rd, then I'm done until the new year.  Get in touch with me to see if lunch would work either Monday or Tuesday of that week before Christmas.  Tell the fam hi from Mr. and Mrs. Dover.

I must be stupid. I just dont see how you can argue that the IIAC should maybe get two teams and the MWC maybe an at-large after watching such a close and evenly matched game Saturday. Top to bottem the IIAC is a ton better than the MWC, I have never tried to argue that at all. You (Wartburg) can help the MWC keep its automatic bid by going up there and at the very least keeping the game close against Whitewater.

Going off of what you are saying do you think that the NCAA basketball tournament is a joke? Conferences get autobids and destroyed in there every year while some bubble teams would no doubt roll them. I know thats a different situation but I am just curious as to what you think. If you think that Monmouth didnt deserve to be in the National tournament this year then I will disagree and I hope you would too after what went down on Saturday.

"Coach Lance Leipold's Warhawks possess multiple Division I transfers and eight  players who weigh 285 pounds or more. Just two Wartburg linemen weigh in at more than 285 pounds."

Actually the roster on our website lists only 7 players weighing 285 or more.   ;)

And I'm not certain about the "multiple" D1 transfers either.  I know we have transfers from Northern Arizona (he doesn't play), Truman State  and Concordia University - St Paul but I don't think any of them are D1 programs.   I could be mistaken but those are the only ones I can think of right off the bat.

Thanks, how many start +/or play major minutes?

Four of them are Freshmen.   I'd have to see a depth chart to know if any of them play or are even on the tournament roster.  Unfortunately our website doesn't have depth charts nor have I seen a tournament roster.  I think one does play.  Of the others I do know that at least two of them, a senior and a junior do start +/or play major minutes.  I think the seventh one does as well.  You know how it is, nobody pays attention to the linemen.  Sorry, I couldn't offer more definitive information.

We do have size and pretty decent speed too.  We also have good depth at nearly every position, particuarly the skill positions.   We are a very physical team.

NAU is 1-AA so that may count as a D1 program for the article's purposes.  Truman and Concordia-St. Paul are both D2 programs though.

I love the Couriers sports coverage and always enjoy when you share the links.  However those two lines weren't needed, as the Stevens Point team had 7 between 310 and 340. As for multiple D-1 transfers, I'm not sure who they would be but would guess they probably have the same impact as the multiple D-1 transfers I've watched in the IIAC over the past few years.

edit- With the exception of Walner. That dude did have an impact.

I don't want to spend too much looking to last Saturday since it is time to focus on UWW, but I will say that Monmouth really impressed me.  As a former player, I really felt bad for the Scots.  Sucks to lose a game like that right at the end.  But I give a ton of credit to the Knights for fighting from behind.  Not used to seeing the Wartburg D give up 28 points in a half.  Last time that happened was 2002 out in Linfield (Central came close in 2005 putting up 27 in the 2nd half).  I will say it does feel good to get lucky and come up with a big play like Yordi and Vetter did.

As for facilities and all, not used to traveling to too many places to watch D3 games...I can count the number of games I have seen on the road (as a fan) on one hand.  But I really liked Monmouths field.  The grass looked a bit rough, but gotta love playing on a natural field like that.  Don't blame you for not having a ton of seats on the visitors side, I like cramming everyone in there and having people all over the place plus it's better then spending a lot and having the bleachers go empty during the regular season.  Got to stand down in the endzone for the end of the game.  Up close to the action.  As for tailgating, gotta give security something to do on a cold Saturday, glad to hear the Monmouth fans were just as frustrated with the "rules".  But over all the people there were nice.  Chatted with a few fans on our wait to get into the field, just your typical D3 fans...gotta love it.

As for WH being a "d-bag" as some have said on here to you I ask "would a d-bag wear an old jersey that had to be surgically removed at the end of the day?".

                                                                 ...that's what I thought.

What has happened?  Did Koehler have the guys on a diet?  Give all those o-lineman a few years out of college, they will tip the scales over 285 for sure by then.

AEN,

Never heard back from you on the handoff of soda to AEN Jr.  I told him I might be through Waverly New Years Eve and cold possibly drop off a 6-pack then if you need a fix.  If you really ask nicely I might even detour through Decorah for a half-baked pizza.

We'll keep New Years in mind. My boss goes to Decorah to pick up his son so I'll get some after finals.

BW, if I'm not mistaken, the Truman State transfer LB Kyle Supianoski, is an Iowa native and the NAU tansfer is the son of the U. of Minnesota HC (as you said, he doesn't play); the C-SP transfer starts on the O-line.
