Cornell only put three on the IIAC All-Academic team? I thought they were smarter than everyone else.

maybe to push to better competition, they are letting "dumber" kids in...

i know it's supposed to be tougher to get into Coe now then 3 or 4 years ago, so maybe other schools are catching up to them.

Or, the classes you take at Cornell could also be tougher.  Leading to less football players on the All-Academic team.

Or, none of the Ram football players are taking easy classes like most of us on here took.  No Southwest trip, outdoor rec, bicycle 101 and others of that type ;D

Please... some of the most intelligent guys I was in classes with at WB were football players.  Old #97 from your programs and #1 in your hearts took many-a Particle Physics, Differential Equations and Engineering class with me... and rocked those grades.

OK... that might be looking at it through orange-tinted glasses, but in general, there are a lot of STUDENT athletes in the IIAC... while there are some doozies as well!!!

We definitely had some smart ones on the team. The Goose, one of the Simpson posters brothers here was a Academic All American safety and is now a Doctor of something in IC doing research that involves anal probing lab rats (Just kidding, I don't know what it is they are anal probing)
El Duke was pretty bright and is now an engineer.
I think everyone else is a football coach  ::)

Not to mention Kyle Duchman, who carried a 4.0 GPA as a bio/chem major and is in med school at Iowa now.  Or Marcus Hemaseth, Draddy Award semi-finalist that is holding something like a 3.96.  Or Nick Noble, a Draddy finalist back in '06.  Or Matt Stoffel, etc., etc., etc.

Don't think this has been posted on here yet.  Congrats to the former Wartburg player.  Saw him and his family down in Monmouth cheering on the Knights.

Trust me, there are plenty of courses that can be taken on the hilltop that one probably wouldn't call overly strenuous.  In fact I think it's a great benefit of being an athlete on the one course at a time schedule.  Schedule your more difficult classes for your off-season time when you have more time to devote to schoolwork; and use your in-season time to take some of your less strenuous classes and use the extra time towards your sport.

For the IIAC Motto contest ...

There were some really good entries ... and predictably ... a couple of tasteless ones.

The finalists are:

Thunderbolt:  United we stand.  Divided we're still better than most.

dutchfan1:  We write the stories of the IIAC.

TheOne89.1:  (adapting a line in a great movie)  "Is this heaven.  No, its the Iowa Conference."

Footballdaddy:  IIAC:  We put the hyphen in student-athlete.

So ... which one do you vote for?  Cast your ballot on here and remember --

This is not Illinois politics ... so no bribes aand vote only once.

Good to know Winona has at least one good coach.   ;D

Do you mean one good coach who used to play at Wartburg?  Cause I think Knightlife06 might be angry at that comment...of course he is probably too busy celebrating graduation right now to care.
