So Dillon hired a buddy with a sub .500 record and promoted from within?
That shows you why I would NOT make a good college FB coach. I wouldn't go about building a winless program the correct way apparently.

That must be why you weren't mentioned as a replacement for Chizek on the Channel 13 news tonight.   ;D ;D ;D

Was Turner Gill mentioned?  He is an good young (black) coach, and just won the MAC championship. - He should have been the hire for Auburn

Just that he signed a contract extension with the Bulls and its presumed that he's staying there.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Word I get out of Dubuque is that Stan Zweifel will be named the next UD head coach.

Is that the guy that Whitewater refused to hire after Berozowitz retired?  That came in 2nd place last year to Dernin when Luther was searching for a coach?  That hasn't been hired at some other places because questions about his character?  Or is this someone else?

I wouldn't make assumptions about someone's character unless you have facts. And none of which you wrote above is based in reality.

A couple facts:
1.) Every team Stan has been associated with as a Head or Assistant Coach from High School to College has won, plain and simple.
2.) He has a lot of experience developing programs and turning them into successful programs. He has done it numerous times at each level
3.) He is known as an excellent recruiter with a tremendous work ethic.
4.) He is a published author of 7 books on coaching football and more specifically, the zone offense.
5.) He is well known and respected in football circles and especially at the Division III level
as is evident by his coach of the year honors and invitations to speak at clinics and camps

To be continued....

Also, google is a wonderful tool:

Taken from D3football.com:

Remember the outstanding leaders
Among coaches, UW-Whitewater's Lance Leipold took home D3football.com's top honors. Even though he presided over a loaded team, it was no easy road to the championship. This time last year, the Warhawk community was up in arms over the selection of Leipold, an alum who was picked for the job from Division II Nebraska-Omaha, over Stan Zweifel, the longtime offensive coordinator who'd developed a fiercely loyal following.

Another quote:

Both were all-state selections coming out of high school, Reuland at linebacker and Beaver at running back. Each played both ways, and Beaver was all-conference at linebacker as well. But Reuland didn"t get any scholarship looks in a state with just one Division I football program (UW-Madison) and no Division II schools, leaving him with just a couple of choices, UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater. Whitewater didn"t give up on him, even though he seemed destined to head west. "Z (Warhawk offensive coordinator Stan Zweifel) kept calling and their facilities are amazing. That"s why I made my decision."

When all Beaver got were some invitations to walk on at the Division II level, staying close to home was an easy decision. "Stan Zweifel also talked to me, told me he was going to chain me to the goalposts and everything else. I loved his enthusiasm. He"s just a crazy guy.

Another quote:

In a press release from the time of Zweifel's hiring, Athletic Director Rick Bowen was quoted as saying, "It is rare that an opportunity presents itself to hire a man of Stan Zweifel's talents and abilities. Stan's ability as a coach and a recruiter will reap immediate benefits to our football program."

My understanding is that Gill didn't sign the U of Buffalo contract until after Auburn made its announcement.

Also, my understanding was that Stan was 1 of 4 finalists for the Head Coaching job at Whitewater. One of the other finalists was Rick Willis of Wartburg. Stan made it to the final 2 choices for the job over Willis. If Willis was willing to leave his cushy AD job at wartburg for the HC job at whitewater, that says something also.

You have to keep in mind that the Whitewater head coaching job is on the same level as if the Head Coaching job at Mount Union opened up. Whitewater has built (with Stan's help) a tremendously successful program at the national level. Stan was a part of 2 of those Stagg Bowl appearances and guys he recruited helped Leipold win the national championship last year and get them there again this year.

The Whitewater community as was evident by what was printed wanted Stan to be the next head coach. I don't want to speculate on the reasons for hiring Leipold but being a Whitewater alum and successful coach certainly helped I am sure. Everything I read seems to lend itself to that scenario.

And most recently it looks like he changed MSU-Mankato's offense from spread to zone offense and helped take them to their first playoff appearance since 1993 with a 9-3 record and 2nd place conference finish.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am awfully excited about the hiring of Stan Zweifel.

Wow -- great hire for UD. I'm impressed!

Look out for the Spartains in the next few seasons.....

Good hire for UD. Not sure what is going on at Cornell though...seems to be a hotbed for former high school coaches right now..haha. I think 4 out of the 7 coaches that they have now that will be back all started their coaching careers in high school.

Candidate for ISU job

http://mikegh.wordpress.com/2008/12/16/cyclones-first-known-post-chizik-candidate/

Cyclone Sports Report says it has learned Oklahoma State associate head coach Joe DeForest has been contacted about thee ISU job by Pollard.

"I am not able to comment on that at this time," DeForest told CSR in a prepared statement. "Obviously it would be an honor to be considered for such a great job in the best conference in college football. It would be a great opportunity."
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

And the momentum keeps building for the IIAC. Not only a great hire for Dubuque but the IIAC as a whole. In terms of respect on the D-3 level, not many bigger names out there.

If I'm not mistaken, Coe contacted Zweifel was contacted about the Coe opening, but turned it down.
