I'm begging you, Dowjone$, please come back. This board needs you like never before.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

davedevine

dutchfan,
thanks for your concern,  i'm happy to say that i'm still alive...the combination of living in KC and not having any close  contacts at the burg any longer makes it tough for me to post about anything relevant pertaining to football/wartburg..  not that i ever did to begin with

i also don't have the luxury of reading/posting on this site from work..
it appears that some of you would/could consider this a part time job from how often you're on here..

tony,
are you still in des moines?  i talked to your boy burr about 2 months ago and heard about his un-fortunate mis-hap.. poor dude..   if you ever get down to kc, let me know..

walston, does tommy teeple still cut hair there on main street? i used to go to him when i lived in stout
i don't understand why I went to Dike instead of A/P, i'm pretty sure stout is closer to pburg?

Storm-what?

Ok Coo coo and Stormchaser, does Simpson have a chance?

Honestly, probably not. I wish that weren't true. But I haven't seen the offense put anything together yet this year. Most of the points against Bethel were from the kicking game and defense.
If they had another week or two to find their groove, I'd be a little more optimistic. As things are, I don't see a W this weekend. Either way, I will be cheering them on and hoping for the upset!!! See ya at the game Stormchaser!

davedevine

walston,
the question came to mind about tommy b/c i remember seeing him on espn a few years ago when kenny mayne did that special about A/P...  in case you wondered how i pulled that question out of nowhere..

walston, you're an ISU fan right?  I'm an Iowa fan.. ISU has won 6 of last 8 and the Iowa game is their super bowl every year and bascially the only game they get up for (see KS and MO games last 2 years to win the North)
How the hell is iowa -13 this week?   those freaks in vegas who set lines are scary good at it..   but the only way i would take iowa is if myer and blythe were both out..

Kurt Cobain is not able to ingest anything.  He is busy decomposing.

Nice try CooCoo. Way to be a Cobain fan.

This is the kind of crap that goes on in the MIAC board.  I was just trying to ignore it.  I guess I shouldn't have responded at all.  Instead I get shown up by a chick. :'(
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

The Show

My picks are BV, Wartburg, Cornell, and Coe.
Sometimes You're the Windshield & Sometimes You're the Bug!

This board is definitely missing Dowjone$ :(

Lots of games to pick this week, so lets start with the IIAC
Central by 7
Wartburg by 14 or more
Dubuque by 6
Luther by 3 in a close one with the Kohawks

And the picks for "Separation Saturday"
Notre Dame over Michigan
USC over Nebraska
Auburn over LSU
Florida over Tenn
and Hawkeyes over Cyclones

Good luck to all in the IIAC this weekend
Go Norse!!!

Dave,
You could have been something if you would have gone to A-P, My wife grew up just outside of Stout and I played in a slowpitch tourney there this summer at the "Astrodome"
Your question about Iowa -13 is one that all the talk radio guys in Des Moines are talking about too. You would think those oddsmakers would have learned their lesson last year.
I plan on heading down to Indianola to watch the first half and then head over to Buxton Stadium.
I told my contacts at ISU to put the game out of reach by halftime.  ;D
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Tony_Soprano

CooCoo:  You are the one with your personal posting information all Nirvana'd out. Tony and the crew thoroughly enjoy the late Cobain's music. Just trying to make a connection. "O well, whatever, never mind."

Dave Devine: What's up buddy. Seems like yesterday we were booze cruising from Wave Town to Stormy Pond, pounding powdered donuts and conversation candy hearts. Give me your email address. You will not believe what I have planned for the next three months. Let's just say it involves the Latin term "Semper Fi."

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of an IIAC football team's stadium/field? For example: Cornell/Ash Park  . . . Choo Choo Trains.

Tony's Picks:

BV

Wartburg

Luther

Cornell

Hey Tony,

I appreciate the jesture, I'm just lame.  Although I loved Nirvana when I was in school, I saw them at Palmer, I stopped listening to them after he died.  It was just too painful.  I use the Cobain picture to show what era I was at Coe.  I'm sure no one is interested in this, but I didn't want you, Tony, to think I'm a jerk, I am just lame.

p.s. Jamming Nirvana when you are caring for three kids under five is just not prudent.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

CooCoo: I think it is only fair you force your children to jam to the tunes you did while in your youth. If your childhood was anything like mine, you can tune into any oldies station and sing along verbatim only because you were strapped in, in the back seat of the family car and your father had control of the AM radio knobs.  Or you could just take out your pent up angst on the showerhead (singing in the shower). Anyways, I do not think you are a jerk.

I cannot really think of a word when I think of Coe's stadium/field.

My picks: BV, Wartburg, Luther, Cornell.  I hate to be redundant with the Nirvana'esque motif - but I just want everybody to know how much I enjoy the message boards...every time I get on here, I can't help but think,"here we are now, entertain us."

Tony - "always faithful" - Soprano, talked to your pops a few days ago, let me know the news - couldn't believe it, but then...it just fits knowing you.  Let me be the first to say thanks.  I can't help the way your posts always crack me up - and make a splash regardless of your aim (no offense WH...and not to be nitpicky, but in what format is this a chatroom?).  Guess it helps if I can put it in the context of heavy helmet.

I'll always side with the team who keeps grass growing on the homefield - but from a cost standpoint it just doesn't make sense anymore.  You're not pulling speculation out of the air when it comes to finances, it just makes sense.  Rumors are going around the pond with a few new initiatives that may continue improvements and be a huge difference maker, but I'm sure pops has filled you in.  I've also heard the 'burg financial "woes," I work with a former Knight.  Evidently their bonds have been downgraded to junk bonds and there is quite a bit of debt.  However I will tip my hat to them for making the effort - definately one of the most modern campuses in the conference and what the students needed, right up there with BV's new digs.

The Show

A word for Coe's field... mud slide?

That's usually how it was by the time we got there.
Sometimes You're the Windshield & Sometimes You're the Bug!

Capn Crunch

Long time reader, first time poster. 6-2, 220 (ding ding)

Glad to see that the girls at the Bing have calmed Tony down. For a while there, it looked as if Hoover was on a fast track visit from Paulie.

Word associations have never been my forte, but I will take a stab at the Iowa Conference Stadiums.

Central - Cornfield
Luther - Hole
Simpson - Cat Litter
BV - Tundra
Cornell - Train
Coe - Ghetto
Dubuque - Earth's end
Loras - Cliff
Wartburg - Rowdy (and I hate to say this, as a visiting team, it was the best game day atmosphere in the conference.)

dbljay21
