As much as I enjoy watching the Stagg Bowl on ESPN, they really need to get a better set of announcers than Pam Ward and Ray Bentley for this ballgame.

Agree !!!

I second that motion. There were numerous times that they mixed up the teams in terms of Raiders/Warhawks. Plus they called a lot of the players by their first names like they were buddies with them. Listening to Pam Ward makes me wants to rub my hands in superglue, roll them around in broken glass, and punch myself repeatedly in the face.

You mean PAT Ward???
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Fairly dead on here today.  Everyone must be making cookies and preparing for the holiday festivities.

Other boards are saying that MUC vs. UWW part 5 is a reality based upon the amount of underclassmen they having coming back.

Does anyone have any feelings on this.

What do the Wartburgers think about next years squad.  You have team that came together later in the season and progressed quite well in the playoffs.  Any thoughts on making a deeper post season run next year?

I can't stand listening to Pat Ward.  She/he isn't very good.  I really love it when she used to call IA games on ESPN 2... I was going nuts on her during an IA/Penn St game a few years back and my wife asked me straight faced "how do you know it's a she?"  that was classic..

Pretty crazy that those 2 teams played each other in the title game 4 consecutive years..
what's more absurd is the 10 titles MU has won in past 16 years.. un-real

nice work Freddy.  Biggest Fantasy day of his career I do believe.. 43 yds rushing with TD and 70 yds receving (had a 65 yarder)
that was 18 pts in my fantasy league and he almost made the "Devine Ballas" roster for their championship run.

They'll definitely have some holes to fill, but with Yordi and Harvey coming back they have a good nucleus to build around.  I think the biggest holes will probably be in the receiving corps (lost Vetter, Bauder, and the TE Hoerner, although they bring back Gustafson and Roskam), the secondary (lose Lansing, Faaborg, and Hemasath), and the special teams (need to replace all-conf kicker and punter).  All the postseason success will definitely inspire the guys coming back to really get after it this offseason and into spring ball.  It will also give Willis, Morrison, and Co. plenty to talk about on the recruiting trail too.

Three topics of discussion to drive the conversation around here over the next week now that the D3 season is officially over:

1.  What are you hoping to get for Christmas?  Are you particularly proud of anything that you bought for somone else?

2.  How did your fantasy football team(s) do this season?  Any champions around here?

3.  How about your favorite NFL team?  I imagine we'll have plenty of Viking/Bear/Packer fans on this board, although you never know.

My answers:

1.  This year was probably the toughest time I had coming up with things that I want for Christmas.  So I didn't really ask for much this year.  I think I did a pretty good job buying for people too, but I guess I'll find out for sure on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

2.  Wrapped up 5th place in my work league today.  Had some injury problems that knocked me from the #2 seed after a four game losing skid to end the season.  Ended up getting the #7 seed, and I'm going to end up winning the consolation bracket.  In another league I had a real hard luck team that ended up losing all but one game by 8 points or less (this is a league where teams can easily put up 150-200 a game, so that's a pretty slim margin).  Finished just outside the playoffs there.  So in other words, I didn't win any money.  Not that there was any money on the line, in case there are any FBI guys reading this board.  ;)

3.  I'm actually a Tennessee Titans fan, so I've pretty much been on Cloud 9 since about 2:00 this afternoon.  That second half the Titans played today was amazing, and for them to play as well as they did defensively without Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch makes me real hopeful for their chances in the playoffs.  Needless to say, I'm very happy that the road to the Super Bowl goes through Nashville!

1. Our son mentioned over the weekend to his grandma that he didn't have any Handy Manny toys...and Santa told us he has some Handy Manny toys coming our way.  Also, our oldest daughter told her aunt she wants some horse toys.  We know she has horse stuff on the way.  So that feels pretty good that our kids will actually be getting some things they want.

2.  My league is over.  I was taking over a team that someone else drafted.  His wife told him she would leave if he didn't get out of fantasy.  I/we started out 7-3...as the season wore on he started logging back in and dropping and adding players and then changing the lineup I had submitted.  We ended the year 8-6 and then lost in the 1st round of the playoffs.  Oh well.

3.  Living in St. Louis until the age of 14 during the Cardinal years made me not much of an NFL fan.  I like to see our local teams do well...mainly Bears, Packers, Vikings...and Chiefs.  Don't really follow the AFC much.  Can't seem to like the Rams too well either.  For me though, it's college football.  I will watch D3, D2, 1-AA, D1 doesn't matter.  I watched bits of every bowl game this weekend in between shopping trips.  Sun Belt game on Tuesdays???  The game will be on.  Dubuque playing Wartburg in 20 degree weather???  I'm there.  I'll take college over NFL any day.

1.)  I had a hard time asking for much of anything this year from my parrents.  I guess I am at the age where I feel bad asking for to much, so I end up buying everything I want and show up wearing it at home.  That usually warrents a scolding looks from my mother.  I am particually proud to give my gifts this year.  My mother was a rock n roller back in the day and has a ton of classic records that she does not listen to anymore because their turn table broke.  Her and my father just bought a new Mac and I bought them a turn table that will convert the records into MP3 files.  So I am sure it will be a fun Christmas morning in the parrents of Klopenhiemers house breaking out the old records and have some early morning cheer.  I got my dad a new block of cutlery, he is the cook in the household, so I hope he enjoys that.

2.)  My fantsay team was terrible then really came on in the end.  I had P. Manning, D. Clark, W. McGehee...they all started off slow but once the season progressed they really kicked it into high gear.  I did not follow it enough to really be good at it.  I do not spend the time needed.

3.)  I am a New England Patriots fan since I was a little kid.  I watched Drew Bledsoe play at Washington State in the Rose Bowl and was hooked.  I told my parrents whoever he goes to that is my team.  It just so happend that NE got him and even after he left I stuck with them.  He went to the Bills and I could not change horses for another AFC East team and I hate the Cowboys so that was a no brainer.  I am pretty impressed with their season, even if they do not make the playoffs.  Losing of the best QB's the game has seen and replace him with a guy that did not start a college game and have the opportunity to win their division is impressive.  I do not see a Super Bowl run in them this year.  My predictions for the conference finals are as follows.

Tennesee vs. Baltimore
NY Giants vs. Atlanta

I am going to go out on a limb and pick something that most likely has never happened.  Two rookies in the Super Bowl.  Baltimore vs. Atlanta.  Flacco vs. Ryan.  Now that would be pretty sweet.

Tennesee vs. NY Giants would be awesome as well.  Two teams who run the dog crap out of the football.

BTW:  Did anyone watch the Sunday night game?  I am not a fan of NYG or Carolina, but for an old olineman it was nice to see an NFL game that came down to running the football vs. throwing it all over hells half acre.

Re: #3  I'm for the Lions - 'nuff said! >:( ;D

This may seem sort of like a "Captain Obvious" thing to say, but they really can't get any worse, and I think they have a real opportunity this off-season.  Millen is out, so they can bring in a new GM, maybe a new coaching staff (although I'm in the camp that says that Marinelli and his staff would be winners if they had better players), have a good draft, and maybe pick up some decent free agents here and there, and if they do everything right they could probably be competing for the division in a couple years.  The NFL is just that topsy-turvy of a league right now, and the NFC North is one of the weakest divisions in the league right now.  After next week, they'll basically be able to wipe the slate clean and start over with a whole new group of personnel.  So in the words of Jimmy Buffett, come Monday it just may be alright.

1.  Guitar Hero and Mario Kart for the Wii (really excited)

2.  3rd place in both leagues - number 1 seed in one, highest points scored, laid eggs the last 3 weeks of the season.   2nd league, number 2 seed, put up a whoping 60 points last week, and 110 this week, would have been nice to switch that around

3.  Dallas Cowboys - suicidal after saturday night, but Christmas came early with the Bucs loss!
