Storm Lake

Best Burger Sandwich:  Prime Rib French Dip or Omaha Grill at Martini's
Best Pizza:  Honey Kissed - forget the name, but the kind with tomatoes and mushrooms on thin crust is best
Best Beer Selection:  Lake Avenue Lounge (the only bar in town with Grain Belt!)
Best Wings:  probably Martini's or the Boathouse, but we always drove to the Cro's Nest in Holstein
Best Mexican:  Plaza Mexico is my favorite, but La Juanita's is good later in the evening
Best Misc.:  brunch buffet at the Regatta Grille (restaurant at King's Pointe Resort)

When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

I should probably copy and paste these last two pages so I have a good reference whenever we visit IIAC towns in the near future.

sportsknight pretty much nailed the Dubuque list for me.  Except I am so old there was no Buffalo Wild Wings when I was in Dubuque.  Back then, the place to go for wings was the Ground Round.

Can sportsknight fill us in as to where he is moving and what his new job is???  Enquiring minds...

Vegetarian

Vege-what?

Man can not survive on beef alone.

Of course not.  There's always pork, chicken, venison, etc., etc.  In all actuality, man cannot live on salad alone.  I've heard that an iron deficiency is a bitch.

Couple other random ones to add to other people's lists (mostly in the best misc. category):
The Irish Democrat in Cedar Rapids.  Their food is awesome, even if they aren't really known for just one thing.  I'd put the mexican grub at Dos Gringos downtown up against anywhere else in town too.  As far as Storm Lake goes, you can't forget about the great late night/early morning breakfasts at The Pantry.

I've always been a big fan of the GR too.  Kind of too bad the one over in Waterloo closed down.

That won't matter much to me in a little more than a week's time though, because by then I'll be the newest resident of Iowa's Oldest City.  Got a new gig as a photojournalist working out of KCRG's bureau there.  Start work on Tuesday with some training/orientation down in Cedar Rapids, and will be "boots on the ground" in DBQ no later than the following Monday.  Already found myself a nice two-bedroom apartment just a little south of the Lorass campus, a short walk from either Fat Tuesday's or the Walnut Beer Store.

Should have gone with the 1 BR, then when the ladies spend the night they have no choice.

Just added some missing info. ;D

Good Luck on the new gig.

Cedar Rapids

Best Burger: Starlight - never been, but haven't heard anything bad about it
Best Pizza: Zoey's (Marion) - agreed
Best Beer Selection: Bricks- most places are pretty standard, although Bricks had Lieny's on tap - the micro brew (Third Base Brewery) is different, but doesnt carry many standard brews - no opinion here
Best Wings: Paddy O'Rourkes (on Wednesday night) - not anymore - I'd go with the guiness BBQ wings from Mulligans
Best Mexican (margarita): The Hacienda or Papa Juans
Best Misc.: Used to be $2 32 oz's of any tap beer at Paddy O'Rourkes, but that has changed to $3 24 oz beers.  Reynaldo's used to have great rita specials - but they recently closed.  I think the mug club at the Third Base Brewery is a great deal... $25 for life - 3.50 32 ounce micro brews ($3 32 ounce domestics)

University of Iowa Football may be going to FieldTurf for next year. What's everyones thoughts on this?  Me personally would rather see Iowa have natural surface.  Don't get me wrong, I loved playing on field turf in college and Coe's surface is top of the line, but in D1 you have the money and ability to keep the field in great shape.  Although it would most likely save the university quite a bit of money, I would hate to see the natural grass go in Kinnick.

Well it would keep the cheerleaders from grazing on it...........

Can't believe I didn't think of that!  Although I have been there sober, and it's much less impressive when your senses aren't dulled by a long night out.

Where should I eat when visiting Des Moines?

Haven't been there in many years, but I used to be partial to the Machine Shed.  I know Klop can enlighten you on pretty much any place that serves food in the DM metro.  I remember many occasions where the o-line sat around and shared stories of our gastric conquests the same way the skinny guys sat around and told stories about the notches on their belts.

Machine shed is good.
If your looking to drop a pretty penny, 801 Steak and Chop downtown is excellent.
Centro is not cheap either but the food is very good.
Also a fan of Ranallo's in Ankeny.
Lots of good little Mexican joints around, but my hands down favorite is Granite City Food and Brewery off University in Clive.

Love it! Welcome to Dubuque! We'll have to get together sometime over a couple cold ones and a few wings---GR or Buffalo--both are good! Then, maybe I can sneak a Wartburg alum in for a closer look at the inside of the new Spartan faciliities.
