Coe in 2006 with Raeburn...5-3 in IIAC play
Coe in 2007 with Raeburn...5-3 in IIAC play
Coe in 2008 with Staker......4-4 in IIAC play

Did Coe really take a significant step back last season?

Was Coe already in decline before Staker took over?

Will Staker oversee the slow decline of the Coe program?

Will Staker oversee the resurgance (can't spell) of the Coe program?

I guess I will sell...but I am holding on to some Coe stock...because I would not be too surprised to see the Kohawks have some good seasons.  Just not 3 conference championships over a 5 year period good.  Maybe 1 or 2 over any given decade in the near future type of good with the other years more closely resembling your typical BV or Luther season.

It will all depend on how good of O-line recruits they will get in the next couple of years (especially this year).  I'm thinking right now they have less than 10 O-linemen and none of them have any experience.  They lost all 5 starting O-line from last year to graduation as well as 3 strarting d-linemen.

Buying or Selling

Was the conference "down" last year?
At the beginning of the year I would have bought that. By the end of the year I sell. Looking at the amount of close games Wartburg had throughout the year and then the run in the playoffs, I'd put the IIAC up there with ALMOST any conference.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

My rationale exactly.

I could see how one might take a quick glance and dispute this supposition...but upon further review...I think a good case can be made to fend off such a dispute.

A reminder ... or reassurance -- take your pick.

Even though this is a football room ... once the NCAA pairings are announced and ESPN gets its men's college baskeball tournament bracket up-and-running ... I will post instructions for joining in the IIAC group to see how well any of us can do picking roundball winners.   I'll have it up either Sunday evening or Monday morning.

And even though there hasn't been much action there for a while, I'll post it over on the IIAC basketball chat as well.

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

It will be interesting to see if the Dubuque fans on here can do better than last and next to last place in basketball...like they did in the football side of things ;)

I hope your basketball picks go a little better than your football picks did this fall, PH.  ;)

For that matter, I hope mine do, too!!

DF1,

Certainly you are aware that I pick the IIAC games from my heart.  Do not confuse my performance there with my true potential.   :o

For this Espen thing I disassociate my emotions from my cold, calculating spa engineer's brain.  Hence the "W" in the bowl competition that DBQ1965 kindly set up for us.

While I don't want to scare any of you wannabes off, I just received 2 more Patents over the past couple of weeks (I think this makes 7...or is it 8, I'm losing track).  Like Larry Bird once said. "I wonder which one of y'all is gonna get 2nd place."    ;D

I say this in the humblest of terms...   8)

One or two good years a decade?  What rationale are you using for a good season.  Mine is 6-4 or better is a good season in the IIAC.

2000:  7-3
2001:  5-5
2002:  3-7
2003:  6-4
2004:  6-4
2005:  5-5
2006:  4-6
2007:  5-5
2009:  7-3

By my count and mind you these are my idea of a good season, BV has had 4 good seasons this decade with the 09 and 10 campaigns still to come.  Maybe its Luther your thinking about that only has 1 or 2 good season a decade.  Or maybe it UD you were thinking of that has only 1 or 2 good season a century!

"  After spening millions of dollars to udate a turd I mean a football facility, will they have any success under new leadership in the next 5 years.  Success being .500 in the forseeable furture?"

I will buy this.  I think that Coach Z will have some growing pains but with the new football facility I can see UD uping its self in the conference ranks.  Facilities do sell to kids, it shows commitment and moving in the right direction.  Plus if they can pack that house it would be a cool place to say it  your home field.

Klop, I meant 1 or 2 conference titles over a decade instead of 3 titles over a 5 year period.  With the other years being like your typical BV season...5-5, 6-4, 7-3

I will sell for now.  I will go back to my Missouri roots and say coach Z will have to show me he can do it.  That way, if Dubuque does turn into a pretty good team I will be very happy.  If they don't...I will have already set myself up to not be too dissapointed...as I was last season ;)

Purple Heys

I'm gonna say the DBQ disappointed me last season....I think this upcoming year is a transition year.

And further graduation hits with the likes of some speed guys on defense and at wideout along with a very good TE mean the DBQ QB may have less options.

Seems like Coach Z will be installing his system and with that "his" players.  Perhaps they struggle early, although DBQ's rep as not being terribly resilient, I think, changes with this new regime.

But man, that Chiplotle Stadium is nice.

Bottom Line:  Coach Z is a good coach, Chipotle is a 1st class facility...better days are ahead for Spartie.  Buy low today for payoff in a couple of years.
