In my opinion,  the biology dept. at Wartburg is probably one of the strongest departments, if not the strongest department, on campus.  Quite a few students arrive on campus planning to major in biology.  That number gets whittled down when they experience the intensity of the program.  Even with that, it is one of the largest departments.

As to the acceptance rate at Drake Law School you are discussing, perhaps Wartburg's students are being accepted at other law schools before they give Drake any consideration.   I looked at the mini-bios of the Wartburg alumni I know are attorneys.  By far and away the most got their JDs at Iowa.  This was followed by Minnesota.   Then there was a bunch that included Michigan, Florida, George Washington, St. Louis, Drake etc.

Sometimes attended and studied for class, but...
...spent many hours deciding if we should start our night at the Dog House, followed by Fat Tuesdays, followed by the Shot Tower, followed by East Dubuque, followed by Burger Express, before going back home for the night...or
...start our night at the Dog House, followed by the Lux Club, followed by the Mining Co., followed with a return trip to the Dog House, before going back home for the night!!!

There were also many hours spent napping passed out.

You're not fooling anyone you know...fixed it for you.

Many colleges 'help' prescreen advise students

http://www.admissionsconsultants.com/medical/premed_advice.asp
"Beware of colleges that boast of extremely high medical school acceptance rates from their premed programs. These schools often achieve those high numbers by weeding out their premed students aggressively, so that only the best premed students are even allowed to complete the program. You can calculate  a school's "true" acceptance rate by dividing the number of premed graduates it has accepted into medical school by the number of  current freshmen premed majors. A 90% med school acceptance rate probably means that the school rejected students who would have been borderline medical college admits before they finished their premed programs!"

I have two words for college parties...  (in the 80's at least)

Isla Vista.

If you've been there and done it.  You know.

There are no words to express otherwise what can't be described by mere words.

So it just got me to thinking about the Byoona Vista crowd...

It's pronounced Eye-la Vista...not Izz-la Vista.  Not that I expect that helps.   8)

NIACC CUTS FOOTBALL
http://wcfcourier.com/articles/2009/03/18/sports/local/doc49c0c4e9583d3004850736.txt

"NIACC needs to trim $800,000 frm its budget and the elimination of the football program will save the school $171,000. Other cuts are expected at the college but this is the only one within the athletic department, NIACC President Debra Derr said.

"It's in a much bigger picture than just the elimination of football," Derr said. "We have a huge problem that the college is going to have to address in relationship to budget shortfall.""

I'm wondering how many males that will keep from coming back to campus or to campus in the first place and how that will affect their budget.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I'm not talking about the % of students who enroll. I'm only talking about students who apply and are either admitted or denied. The 45% acceptance rate has nothing to do with the enrollment/ yield/ matriculation rate (whatever you want to call it). Here's what I'm saying...in the past five years, less than half of the Wartburg grads who applied got admitted and that % falls in line with our overall acceptance rate. So students who aren't even considering Drake wouldn't be included. And those who applied and were admitted, but decided to attend Iowa, SLU, etc. would be included and that would help with the overall acceptance rate.

Let me say this again....we have outstanding Wartburg grads who are current law students and alums. In fact, I don't know of any who haven't been extremely successful here. All I'm saying is that Wartburg applicants have roughly the same acceptance rate as our overall acceptance rate. And when looking at the medical school acceptance rate being so much higher than the national average and Luther for that matter, it just surprised me. But it makes sense if the biology department is one of the strongest.

I imagine it will keep some football players from coming back.  But I think in general kids aren't picking a JC because of the sports.  The majority of kids are picking a JC because of the low costs, a major that only requires an AA degree, or low grades.

Small, private liberal arts schools that start dropping sports I could see having a big problem retaining students.

20 of 21 recruits signed last month are from out of state. 3 from Canada. Most are from where most D1 schools look for recruits, FLA, TX, OH, Mich.
They had 7 players sign 4 year scholarships, 2 D1, 3 IAA, 1 D2, 1 NAIA

I disagree. I think the ONLY reason these guys that are playing football are going to a NIACC is for sports and to "enhance" their higher division status.

I agree about the football players, I meant the student body at large won't be too affected.  Or I don't think the majority of them will care too much about there no longer being a football team.  But, for the football players, pretty much the sole reason for them to be there is to play their way onto a 4 year school roster.
