Breitbach's rebuilding after fire... again

Posted: March 18, 2009 08:52 AM

BALLTOWN (KWWL) -- A landmark restaurant in northeast Iowa destroyed by a fire for the second time is rising from the ashes yet again.

Construction started on Tuesday on Breitbach's Country Dining in Balltown.

Fire destroyed the restaurant in October of 2008, just ten months after a another fire gutted the building in 2007. Volunteers helped rebuild the restaurant, which originally opened in 1852 as a stagecoach stop.

Investigators still don't know what caused either fire.  Restaurant owner Mike Breitbach says that makes him a little nervous.

Breitbach hopes to be back in business by the middle of June.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

IIAC and ESPN's Tournament Challenge ...

It's not too late to get into the contest ... but after the first tip-off tomorrow, it will be too late!

As of 9 p.m. EDT, March 18, we have the following 12 IIAC loyalists entered:  Klopenheimer, doolittledog, The Show, dutchfan1, The Mayne Event, wbfootballdaddy 1, SportsKnight, Purple Heys, Thunderbolt, The One89.1, BB-IIAC 1, and yours truly as UD Spartans.

If anyone else wants to join the fun ...

Click on the following link:http: //games.espn.go.com/tcmen/frontpage

If you played "Bowl Mania" last December/January, you already have a Member Name and Password.  If you don't remember them ... or you didn't play last college bowl season ... you will have to sign up again (its easy and its free).

Then you will be all set to pick this year's NCAA National Champion in that "other" division.

If the link doesn't work (my understanding of technology being what it is ... then go to www.espn.go.com ... look for someplace that says "Tournament Challenge" and click on that.  Then you should have the right page to sign-in or sign-up.

If there is a hitch in the process, the group you are looking for is IIAC Forever ... and the password is IIAC 2009.

Good luck to all.

May the best man ... or woman win!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

How about that parade in Cedar Rapids yesterday.  What a beautiful day, and it was great to see so many people downtown.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Now for actual  football related news:
Freddy Jackson  should be getting a nice extension if he hasn't already.
If he can stay healthy and out of the police blog  he can make some serious cash the next few years.

Should Lynch be suspended, the Bills will be minus the player who's led them in rushing and touchdowns over the past two seasons. Last year, he had eight touchdowns and 1,036 yards on the ground, enough to make his first Pro Bowl appearance as an injury replacement.

The Bills have a solid backup in Fred Jackson, though the team has interviewed several veteran free-gent running backs over the past three weeks.

WHo does everyone have winning it all?
I have NC against my better judgement. Just the way the bracket worked out.

Louisville - I can't see Pitino losing with a tough squad.  And that white suit?  Unstoppable.

My company took away ESPN.com for the duration of the tournament  :'(

Our home office has deemed Yahoo! fantasy sports to be "games" and thus we can't get on there from work. Good thing the company downstairs has wireless :o

Stormchaser.  Wartburg's stats about professional school admission are accurate.  If you don't believe me give me a call and I'll put you in touch with the person who can give you the names and their professional school.  3193528450.  It would be unbelievably bad ethics to inflate statistics such as this.  We don't.

For example, the Medical School Admission Test (MCAT) average score for Wartburg seniors is 29+.  The national average is 24.  We do this stuff pretty well.

And...could you get 3 dates for my friends?

(Sorry couldn't resist bringing a bit of levity to such a solid response.  Thanks for closing what had become a boring string)   8)
