Anybody that picked Memphis this year, beware.  Going back to my first tourney bracket in 1986 I have NEVER picked the eventual champ.

Iowa's Pro Day is Tuesday.

Any news of any IIAC attendees?  Do any ever attend?

How do kids get invited to that?  Do their coaches pull strings for them?  I remember Walner Belleus going to the ISU pro day a few years back and not doing well at all.  Something like a 4.6 and 4.7 in the 40, 8 reps at 225 is all I remember.

Out here, coaches network...The 2 main ones are USC and UCLA.  SDSU was yesterday and and USD had their's earlier this month.  A kid that graduates from SDSU this year and went to Jr.'s HS had a solid workout.  I hope the Chargers give him a long look.  SDSU LB's have done well the past few years (Kirk Morrison, Freddy Keaho, Antwon Applewhite).  This kids' name is Russell Allen.  You heard it here first.  If somebody gives him an honest shot.  I'll wager he sticks.  SDSU doesn't have much of a team but they do have good individual talent.  (hey, where have I heard that?)

Anybody have any fun spring break plans or trips plan during the spring time?  It will be the middle of the summer before I get a reprieve from work so I am interested in living vicariously through peoples trips ;D

No "official" spring break trip here, but I'm taking the family to Kentucky for a wedding and spending an extra 4 days there in April and plan on catching a lot of horseracing and drinking a lot of whiskey.
My daughters, wife, and I all love the racing, but for different reasons.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

AEN Jr + I went to Alabama for a week long golf trip during the WC winter term break. Day 1 play was to be on Robert Trent Jones Trail in Muscle Shoals. Unfortunately the temp Monday AM @ MS was colder then Waverly and course was closed due to frozen conditions. So we headed to Prattville and played RTJ Capital Hill - Legislator course. Tuesday was on to RTJ @ Auburn. On the way to driving range we drove past the remains of a snow man. 3 sections all 2' big. They had received 4" of snow on Sunday and the left over snowman was still there on Wed when we played. We played 18 championship holes on Tues as well as par 3 course. Wed we played the other 18 championship course@ Auburn. We then head towards Mobile and visit w/ brother Neumann. We played 2 coursed in Fairhope AL area. 1 at an upscale RV park and the other was an executive course. 108 holes in 5 days not bad. Also spent most of an afternoon @ Gulf Shoares beach. Temps started in 30's and 80 when we left. Golf tan in mid season form. ( Farmer tan as well as sock line tan)

FYI - If Muscle Shoals sounds familiar it was referenced in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama" - "Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers, and they've been known to pick a song or two."  The Swampers" were a session band in Muscle Shoals.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

If you are in Kentucky it is bourbon...which is still technically whiskey.

If in Louisville be sure to visit the Louisville Slugger museum and Makers Mark.  On the Makers Mark tour they let you dip your own bottle in wax at the end.  Also drink a mint julip and eat a hot brown.  For horses, Churchill Downs if in Louisville, Keeneland if in the Lexington area.  Whenever my dad wanted to get my mom mad at him he would say "Kentucky, the land of beautiful horses and fast women"

Somewhat IIAC related.  My wifes cousin...who went to Wartburg, is getting married October 24th...the same day as the Dubuque/Wartburg game...and to rub salt into the wound, he is marrying a Loras alum :o

We're going to Hawaii, so will get to see lots of relatives, which means plenty of eating local food and drinking. If I do golf (one knee replacement down, one to go), it won't be at the fancy courses. There are two I normally golf at. Kukuiolono is something like nine bucks for the day and it's great. It's high up, with nice views, if you don't mind the chickens on the course. That's pretty much my style. The other one is next to the ocean so I can slice my balls into the water.

Makers is a fine choice.  Kentucky bourbon at its finest.  I am very jealous especially if you get to see the Derby.  I would love to be in the house on Derby day.  My bucket list includes having a horse face on derby day.  Lets see if I can make enough money to afford that!

eat a hot brown.

So...many...jokes.  Brain...over...loading.

Yeah, I lobbed up a pretty easy pitch to hit out of the park on that one.

Here is the recipe... http://www.brownhotel.com/dining/hot-brown.html

Also, even if you do have a high tolerance for alcohol, it is unwise to drink more than 2 mint julips.  Actually more than 1 mint julip could get you in trouble...but what the heck, you only live once.

Now, if anyone has suggestions on how I can get out of this wedding in October so I can get to the Dubuque/Wartburg game, I will be willing to listen to any and all of them.  Of course, if by that time in the season Dubuque is well below the .500 mark, the wedding might be looking like the more attractive option ;)

Unless you're getting married yourself, when attendance is mandatory, football is always the better option. You should be able to come up with a believable excuse by October.
You guys need  to get your wives interested in football, like Mrs. Warthog is. Now there's one classy lady!

Here, here! Agreed Coco! Any woman that would schedule a wedding during football season is questionable. Will she really be a good addition to the family? Does this young gent realise that a wedding during football season equals future anniversaries during football season? ;)

Coco lucked out -- his wife knows her football. I can say the same for Warthog's better half. You know their priorities are firmly in order!  ;D
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Mr. Ypsi

doolittle,

The solution is obvious: bribe a genealogist to 'prove' that this unmanly clown is not really related to your wife at all! ;)

warthog

I am convinced coco and I both married "up".

Now to doolittles problem.  Where is the wedding and what time does it start?  The game is in Dubuque with easy access to the stadium off US20.  If the wedding starts at 1:00 and the location is within 60 miles of Dubuque, you can make the second half.

Last fall the lovely Mrs. Warthog and I attended a wedding in downtown Iowa City at 1:00 and made it to the Wartburg/Coe game before the first half ended.  You need a spouse who is willing to walk out of the church sanctuary just ahead of the bride and groom.  When the priest presented the couple, Mrs. Warthog & I jumped up and headed out.  You also need a spouse who is willing to dress for the wedding in team colors.  That wasn't much of a problem for us.  I had a black blazer and orange tie.  Mrs. Warthog went with the basic black dress and jewelry with orange stones.  Blue and white should be a snap.  You need a spouse who is willing to overdress for a football game.  Coach Willis' dad said he had never seen Wartburg fans at an away game dressed so formally for the event.  It doesn't hurt for the parents of the bride to be big football fans.  They tend to understand the early departure from the wedding and the late arrival for the dinner/reception.  In our case the parents had a son who had played at Colorado College. (Ironic this comes up in a post today)

If your logistics don't fit this plan, give me the details.  We'll get it figured out for you.  By the way, don't you have some pull at UD?  Have them change the kickoff time.  Maybe that would be a good day to use the lighting system on Chalmers Field.
