Any word if Newmeister will be back this Saturday or not?

Floyd in Iowa City

It seems like Luther goes through this high stakes early start every season since they keep playing Coe and Wartburg back-to-back early in the conference schedule.

This is the 4th year in a row that Luther has played Coe and Wartburg back-to-back early in the slate.  Last season and this season will also see the Norse play Central two weeks after the Coe and Wartburg games.

Some year in the future the Norse might not have the toughest games bunched so early in the season, but it will probably be some year in which the Norse are picked to finish 7th and are rebuilding.

Big game this week.

I have not heard whether Newmeister will be back this Saturday or not. Hip pointers are a painful and annoying injury so it is hard to tell. Ramfan27 how is Depauw doing?

Congrats to my Dutch for starting the conference race strong -- solid win over BV on Saturday! Unfortunately, I didn't see the game -- I won't make it to a game until the Wartburg/Central matchup on September 30. Glad to see that Schuring is healthy and putting up numbers.

And for the conversations I've missed: Yes, Coe is in the ghetto -- of Cedar Rapids. It's not exactly Carbrini Green, people.

My picks for the week will come a little later -- stay tuned. :)

Hello, Dutchfan1.

I see you're doing your usual excellent job in the pick'ems.

Nemeister is listed as day-to-day at this point but my guess is he'll play Saturday but he won't be 100%. Then again who is at this time of year.

As for the game at UD, on a positive note the offence was able to move the ball but seemed to run into a wall when we got close to or in the red zone. The attitude of the team stayed up and they felt they were in it up until UD's final TD. On a negitive note we have to stop giving up the "BIG PLAY". UD had two runs, one for 41yds and another for 42yds, as well as a pass of 72yds all for TDs. This was basically the differance in the game. One other thing, UD scored on their opening drive which also happened at Alma. This is something that the defense needs to focus on not allowing.

All of this is not in any way an attempt to take anything away from Dubuque. Their an explosive team that have some very good athletes. When it's your time to face them don't take the "time to play a bottom-dweller" attitude. You best bring your A-Game.
Congrates to all the winners from Saturday and better luck next game to all the rest. Well maybe not to much luck to Simpson, we'll be seeing you at Ash Park this Saturday. :)

Turf Guy,

That might be a little hard on the Defense.  I think most teams alot of the time will score on the opening drive.  To me its the adjustments made as the game goes on.  If you do stop them the first drive great, but I think if you give up seven or three on the opener and shut them down after you see how they plan to exploit you then you have done a good defensive job.  It's hard to plan for an offense.  Especially if you have a coach that mixes it up and is not predictable.

I haven't seen any updated standings lately, but I believe I'm in the Pick 'Em lead at 17-3.

Wartburg fans:  What's the tailgating strategy for Saturday?  Has a new location been found since the old spot has been confiscated due to construction?  I hope to get to town around 11:00 (with a possible stop a the KnightHawk for cheese fries and a brew), so I'll be on the lookout for other Orange and Black supporters.

Sportsknight that is correct you are 17-3.

Here is the question, How do I keep track of the stats.  I can keep a season stats list.  There are only about 5-6 that have done the whole season.  Then I can keep an IIAC only stat list.  Does that sound good?

I wasn't meaning to get down on our defense. I know for a fact that those guys are working their tails off. I guess it's the way our opponent's hae been scoring on their opening drives. At UD they ran 3 plays capped with a 42 yd run for the TD. At Alma it was 4 plays capped with a 38 yd pass. It comes back to my comment of not giving up the big play. That's what we really need to focus on.
Thanks for the reply. :)

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be in favor of a winning percentage system, with a minimum number of picks.  I think that'd strike the best balance between not penalizing those who were late to the party and those who were picking from Week 1.  There are 34 games involving IIAC teams left in the reg. season, plus the 4 this past week and a minimum of one playoff game equals 39 picks.  I say you have to have a min. of 25-30 picks, and whoever has the highest percentage wins.

Then again, since we're not playing for money, it's a little pointless to put this much thought into it.

K-mack Sorry I wrote down Cornell not UD I will change it.  Thanks For Catching it.  I know its your reputation.  LOL

It was just that I was so happy for picking the upset (at least according to the mood on the board last week) I was like 'heeeeeeeeeeeeey! I got robbed."

Though it was nothing compared to Oklahoma vs. Oregon. :)

DutchFan2004,
If you are keeping track of the pick'ems, then I suggest you keep record exactly like you would for the football teams: a conference record and an overall record.  Determine the "winner" by percentage picked correctly and have a minimum number of picks for the season.  That's my two cents on that issue 8)
Go Norse!!!

Sportsknight, I wasn't there for the opener, but I assume D lot and the one right next to it will be in full force. I'll be up there hopefully by 10 with some of the old roomies so I'll look for you.
Question to the board-
On the word association game I noticed that several people brought up game day atmosphere at Wartburg. Being a player and then the radio guy who got there from Des Moines just in time to get into the stadium, is it really that much better than everywhere else? If so, what makes it better?
I guess I just assumed that people tailgated everywhere.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships
