Let me add my kudos to the Coe ladies. Can't wait for the HS season to start. Will be busy watching my daughter's final season. Only seven free days in June, and four are Sundays! It will be hard to see her career end, but it's been a great ride along the way. Besides, she's hit a grand slam, something her brother never was able to do!

Willie:

I went back through some of your past postings.  It appears this Wartburg dislike is more than a recent arbitration.  If you don't mind I would like to get an understanding what the problem is.  You threw out a broad statement that the Knights cheat and that has lead to the success over the last 15 years or so.  I've been fairly close to the Knights since the 1996 football season and I've never seen or heard of anything that would lead me to believe they are pulling any shenanigans.  Wartburg has had some success athletically over this time, but I can assure you that the success of Wartburg has transcended athletics to include both the fine arts and academics.  Feel free to send me a personal message if you have any questions.  If I don't have the answer I'll find it for you.

By the way; in case you have missed my postings over the past several years you may be surprised to know that my second favorite IIAC school is the U of Dubuque.  Growing up in NE Iowa I spent a considerable amount of time at various UD events with my mother, a UD graduate.

Warthog,

I do not dislike you, any other Wartburg supporter on here, or Wartburg College for the record. Just ruffeling some feathers..... ;)

WillieU...Your beloved Spartys might have beaten my Beavers one in 10 years.  I believe the 6-3 campaign that had everyone thinking UD was back, one of your losses was to the BeavCrew.  The amount of players coming from Florida was a direct result of the kids in Iowa having MUCH better d3 options in the state of Iowa than PukeD.  So the coaching staff responded by going out of state.  Why do you BV has expanded their recruiting territory outside the state of Iowa?

The fact is UD has a coach that was a reject by a half a dozen schools yet he is hailed has the second coming of Jesus Christ on this board.  Congratulations, I hope hes the man.  Prove us wrong.

First, I wish I could translate half of your mumbo jumbo. What exactly are you trying to say by "Why do you BV has expanded their recruiting territory outside of the state of Iowa?" Slow down so you don't skip important words in sentences please.

Next, how old are you? Didn't your parents teach you better manners then to call names, refer to Jesus Christ with regards to a football coach AND worst of all, verbally attack a "pastor" just because you didn't like what he had to say about some of your ignorant comments?

Klop, you missed my point. My point is that if you wre going to have to pay $20k a year to go to school and play football, would you leave warm, sunny, Florida for cold, snowy, less diverse Iowa? There are probably dozens of options much closer to home. Now if you had to pay $5k with a "music" scholarship, you might make the trip.

Daddy I did not miss the point.  Go back and re-read what I wrote.  There are no options closer to Florida for the players.  My cousin is a perfect example.  He was to small to play at the d-1's down there.  The closest small school that recruited him was 12 hours away.  If he was already going that far, why not come a bit further to Iowa.  He sucked.  He got blown out of the water.  The kids in Florida who are not good enough to make the big schools have little or no options.  I have been apart of programs that feed off these kids.  There is this mystic that the kids from the sunshine state are better athletes.  The fact is they usually cause problems and have poor grades.  Not all of these but some.  So I hope this helps you understand this a bit better.

Think about me and your son.  Lets face it, we do not grow up hoping to be BV Beavers or Warty Knights.  Its the Cyclones, Hawkeyes, or Panthers.  Well only so many spots makes most of us head to d3.  The difference is we have much better childhoods and morality bases than these kids.

First, let me say, I do not support recruiting exclusively anywhere---Iowa, IL, WI, FL, TX, CA or wherever. I think to be successful and have a great fan following, you should however recruit a significant portion of your athletes from within a 200 mile radius of your campus. For UD, that includes 3 states. But, you also have to look at the mission of each individual college or university and the broader recruiting plan. For UD, who recruits much more nationally and internationally then many schools, you will of course bring in a variety of athletes from across the country and world.

It is no secret in the past UD has recruited significantly in areas where the previous coaches had significants relationships built. We are not ignorant here either, everyone knows that the majority of those kids are african-american so although you claim to have no "racial" implication in your comments, many others reading may see it differently. And you are correct that SOME of those kids may have poor grades, suck at football, and be trouble makers but that is not the majority so your generalizations are out of bounds. There are many that graduated, were excellent athletes, and were christians.

And maybe I am different then the rest of you who grew up here in Northeastern Iowa but there have been a quarter of the athletes on every team I have played on that were not stellar students, got in trouble from time to time, and weren't the best athletes. And that includes teams with a bunch of white kids from Iowa too.

But, looking forward, I am very excited about Coach Z and next season. And you especially have me excited to play BV!

Verbally attack a pastor?  This is after he called me a racist and other people on this board said hold the dice a second on that one?  So because he is a pastor I have to hold my thoughts and bow down?  Is that what you are saying Willie?  I guess very few people on this board agree with calling a spade a spade.  I do not bow down to anyone if they attack me in the wrong, sorry if you do.  You talk about how I was raised.  My mother taught me to not ruffle feathers just for the fun of it.  My age is 12 the same age as you!

Good job Coe Women. Always nice to see IIAC teams excel nationally. Wartburg women have a decent shot at another track national title this weekend so maybe some more IIAC respect.

Willie- I love feather-ruffling. I'll argue all day if people respond.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Purple Heys

Congratulations to the Kochicks.  National Runner-up is outstanding.  The fact that they were our 3rd place conference play finisher, speaks to the strength of the IIAC.

We should all be proud of the level of competition in the IIAC.

I have been speaking to folks here on the West Coast of the overall strength, at the D3 level, of the IIAC sports across the board, relative to the SCIAC and the NWC as it pertains to kids who are considering attending private schools.

But especially, I communicate the benefits of the education Jr. is getting/has gotten out there in good ole Iowa, and the impact of going away to college has had on him.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

BTW, we miss Jr. severely...he hasn't been back since Christmas and he won't be home for summer this year...rumors of a roofing job or something like that.   8)

Where did he call you a racist?? He said that what you typed could have "racial implications"  to some people and you took it too far because even though you and wartburg fan didn't think it did, I and I am sure others may have. But, regardless, he didn't ATTACK you or disrespect you in any way. YOU, on the other hand, did and made yourself look ignorant along the way. And what is this bowing down stuff?? I mean come on Klop, are we pretty soon going to meet after school by the big oak tree to throw down?

People can disagree "respectfully".

As for ruffling feathers, I think that is what 90% of us do on here from time to time. I know many such as DBQ1965 and DoolittleDog prefer to be "friends" with all which is great. They are certainly more of the "peace keepers". Myself, I like to support my Spartans and am also not afraid to speak my mind clearly from time to time which can upset some. It takes many kinds to make the world go round.

"Ruffling feathers" can have different meanings. And what I meant by it doesn't mean that I don't support my opinion of wartburg's gift aid to student-athletes resulting in some of their universal success. And wartburg faithful have every right to respond how they want. I didn't personally attack them when they did.

As someone that's been known to stir the pot a little from time to time, even I'd say that things are just a scosh too contentious around here right now.  Good to keep the conversation going, but I think we can hold off on the hard-core name-calling and bickering until September arrives.

Willie I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but if they were that great of athletes then more wins would have been put up on the board.  The fact is UD football has been the doormat of the conference for quite some time.  You had a couple of years here that were highlights and maybe Coach Z can turn the tides.  Personally I hope he does turn the tides because the more competition within the conference means that our top teams will be that much better come national playoff time.

The hard part about this and what really burned me was that DBQ65 even thought that my tone had any racists connotation to that.  You guys have no idea who I am as a person and have no idea who I keep as friends and what my beliefs are.  All you know is the mantra of Klopenhiemer.  I do not feel that I have ever put myself out there as a racist or a bigot.  Those are two things that i do not condone.  My mother taught me that Willie, if you were questioning my morals as you have had.  I can come across as a jerk sometimes just like other, yourself included, might come across as people who stir the pot on occasion.

The next part that gets me is that when I make a stand now I have people saying that they would not want to piss off DBQ's boss?  Come on now that is pretty childish.  That is why I made my comment about bowing down to anyone.  This whole conversation started off between me and daddy talking about alternatives for the second tier football players in Florida and now this is what it has blossomed into.

I respectfully apologize to anyone who I offended.  But, just to let you know, you sincerely offended me.
