There seems to be a contentiousness emerging on this page which ill-befits any of us IIAC loyalists.

Perhaps with kick-off now 107 days away ... we can look forward to better times.

REMEMBER THE SPARTANS!
Just what I didn't need, another thing that ill-befits me.

(but I thought Coe's atmosphere was pretty high)

I love the smell of crunchberries in the morning, smells like victory.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

With all that said, you still need the whole package.  Facilities are great and all, and Dubuque fans love our new stadium.  But Central or Simpson fans will have just as great of a time at their place, even if it's older because that is the team they are fans of.  Dubuque has a great facility, our school has the money now to offer competitive finantial packages to woo kids our way.  In Zweifel we have a respected coach that has shown an ability to recruit very well.  Now, as they say, prove it.  I'm sure others out there want to see if Dubuque CAN win games.  I think they can, should be fun to see if they are able now to move up a step.  Might not be this year though.

I think worst case scenario for UD this year is another 2-8 season.  So as not to get too upset that is what I am preparing myself for.  I will be happy with 5-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.  Anything above that and I will be very happy.

Using money to attract athletes? Isn't that reserved for cheaters like Wartburg?

Great point football daddy.....only wartburg cheats  :o  DDog, please realize none of the money given to UD has ANYTHING to do with financial aid packages. UD has one of the best discount rates among all IIAC schools. Meaning we don't give money away so easily like our counterparts do.

Check it out, it's a fact jack!

Ditto to what you said.

We all enjoy and defend what we hold dear.  It wasn't that long ago I was swearing that the old Knights Gymnasium was the greatest place on earth to watch a basketball game.

Was it the best?  Not even close.  It was cold, it had poles limiting the view, the lighting gave less lumination than two dozen strings of outdoor Christmas lights could have provided, it had terrible concession stands, the sound system wasn't much better than a megaphone.  Yet it was mine and I had spent many enjoyable evenings there watching my beloved Wartburg Knights, so to me it was the best.

It would be great with me if Dubuque became competitive again.  You will note I said competitive.  They can finish second or third every year as far as I'm concerned.  As a Wartburg fan, 1st place is reserved annually for the Knights.

Willie, what I am getting at is with a larger endowment, a school has more money to offer finantial aid to students...or lower tuition to a point where that school is significantly cheaper than other area schools.  Because of the good finantial situation Dubuque now has, they already have significantly cheaper tuition than other IIAC schools.  All the money that has flowed into Dubuque over the last decade has built the addition and renovation of the science hall, built the technology building, built new student housing, built the expansion of the library, built the recreation and wellness center and stadium, renovation of Stoltz Sports Center...AND built the endowment up from $16 million up to $73 million.  That $73 million endowment is how we can lower tuition and offer finantial aid packages, the new buildings on campus and upgraded academics is what helps lure the kids in to begin with.  The parents are the ones that love the low tuition and finantial aid.

I have no problem with schools offering great finantial aid packages for kids.  To me it wouldn't be right to load up the finantial aid to kids that are athletes to lure them to a school at the expense of other kids that are not athletes.  Something that has been associated with Wartburg on here.  And something Wartburg has denied.  I have been on record as thinking that Wartburg isn't offering more finantial aid to athletes over non-athletes.  It would be too easy to get caught doing that.  Now, you might be able to convince me that Wartburg has been offering more finantial aid than they can afford to be giving out, or that they built their beautiful campus off of borrowed money that in this economy might turn out to be a very very bad deal.  But as of now, I think Wartburg has beautiful campus, good sports teams, and seems to be turning out students that are doing well in their adult lives...those former students better step it up soon and start donating big money to Wartburg or there might be trouble on the horizon.

In a nutshell, I don't think I could be any happier with the situation Dubuque is now in.  I think there are great things ahead of us academically and athletically.  Other schools fans might give us a tip of the cap and say "well done" but in the end they will just shrug their shoulders and still be fans of their school regardless.

Not only that ... but BV's Eric Bertelson won a national title in the D3 Long Jump and finished 4th in the 100 meters final while Wartburg's Brian Chenoweth took 3rd in the 10,000 meters ... both earning All-America honors!

Congrats to the Wartburg women track team and all the other IIAC all-american track athletes.  This has been a good year for the IIAC.

What is everything? Loras has the best setting. Wartburg has the best game day atmosphere and home field advantage. What other criteria are you going by? Besides Coe and Cornell, there's not a crappy stadium in the rest of the conference.

Cornell has the best natural grass field in the conference.  Way better than Wartburg's...    ;)

I have a hard time thinking any IIAC school's athletic program would be displeased with the financial backing UD has recently enjoyed.

Knowing you have the resources in place frees your focus.   This is not an instantaneous function however...the dividends would be payed down the road...we'll truly see how this all plays out over the next 5 years or so

Your ladies WERE kinda rough on us!  I really thought the softball team was a threat for the national title, but Coe beat 'em twice on the last day of the regional.  Without Rachel I knew we couldn't win the track title, but still placed seventh (WITH Rachel I don't think Oshkosh would have been Wartburg's biggest threat ;)).  The baseball team was looking tourney bound 'til a late-season fade-out.  And the golf teams finished 5th and 9th nationally.  A pretty good spring, but I hoped for even better. ;)
