Well said Dutchfan1,

I don't think the conference is down.  I do agree that if the conference playoff teams would get past the first round it would help with the conference respect.  The Johnies lost to the same team we did.  The Linfield Cats lost to the same team we did.  Thats pretty good company I would say.

Well, somebody has to take them, so I'm picking the Beavers in the upset of the week! (Probably not as crazy as anyone taking the Cyclones over the Longhorns.)

BV, Wartburg, Simpson, and Dubuque this week...

Who dominates the IIAC b-ball rivalries?

BV and Wartburg have had some pretty good championship games over the past few years.  In fact, I think they're the only 2 teams to play in it for the past 8 years or so...

The legends are the best. The best R-MC story is when some H-SC guys came up to campus to do some damage, got back to their car and their engine was missing. Sure that was embellished over the years, but if told right, that story is a killer.

I would say my favorite legend is when some H-SC students came up to R-MC to play their instruments at a basketball game, then found the tires slashed on their van when it was time to go home.

Oh wait ... that really happened.

I can agree with Keith about the UD-Loras b-ball rivals.

Besides having a brother on the Loras football team to support, there's one thing that I'll always remember about one UD-Loras b-ball game in particular.

Nothing quite like going to the fieldhouse for the rivalry of the year and getting beat. Yes, folks, I'm a UD grad and former b-ball player. It wasn't just about getting beat by Loras that I'll always remember. It was sitting on the end of the bench after battling my butt off in a losing effort and having some UD football players try and start a fight with my teammates. I couldn't believe it. One second, I'm sitting there depressed, the next moment I have teammates flying by me to get at one of our "supporters" because he saying the most god-awful things about our effort on the court. Thanks for the memories to that UD football player in particular.  I would never support Loras if it wasn't for my brother/best man/workout partner, but that game will always be burned in my mind.

Quick Roll call-
How many guys here coach and what level?
I coach HS OL.

I know show and confused and knightlife06 also coach. Anyone else?
Dutchfan1 is the coach of the Wells Fargo Drinking team as well, but that doesn't count for this roll call.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

keith45

I coach college women's basketball, if that applies?!?!?! ;D

I did for six years, but I never taught at the high school level so there were always issues with my full-time profession.  I have been out of it now for six years.  Two of the seasons coaching were definitely my favorite two years of "work" to this point in my life.

I always enjoyed coaching, but I suppose the good side of it is that I get to see my family, the Hawks, the Norse, and Major League Baseball much more than I used to.

Easy, WH -- I just let my coaching certification lapse last year. I have been certified to coach up to the college level, and coached HS for two years while I was at Central.

...OH, you mean, coached FOOTBALL....  ::)

Also, point of clarification, WH: can I be the coach of the WF drinking team, AND the star player....??
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

There is a nice short article and picture on the back page of today's Chicago Tribune sports section about about Loras naming its football field for Coach Bierie.  If I was more techy I would scan it put it on here.

I have 5 years at D3 and 1/2 year in IL 8A classification (2500+ students).  I'm ready to go back to D3.  Its been a rough year so far.

Da One-
Things not going so hot?
You at a city school or a suburb?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Da One

Suburb, but it might as well be the city.  2500+ students, only 43 on the varsity football team (4 soph's).  I new it was a rebuilding job but times are tough.  1-3 right now and I am not use to losing.

Walston,
I forgot to tell you that Luther does prepare for JV games.  Every monday is dedicated to the guys that didn't play, or don't feel like they played enough on Sat.  This is one of the reasons Luther doesn't have to bring in 80-90 freshman every year.  Everyone gets to play a game every week (JV or inter-squad).  This keeps guys from quiting and retention stays high.  The Norse had close to 80 returners this year.

dbljay21

3 years coaching at D3 and 2 years as a HS volunteer for my alma mater.  Nothing quite like 2A football in Northwest Illinois  ;D

and I am trying to help out Da One a little bit this year...
Go Norse!!!
