BTW,

The Heys clan is coming en masse to the final 2009 Ram Home Game for Jr.'s Senior Day.  (11/7 v. Loras)

You IIAC Board regulars, give me shout and I will make sure there will be a cold one (or 3) waiting for you.  Even you Coe Fan.   ;)

You can keep the Sierra Nevada. Just make sure you bring some carne asada.

KWWL has confirmed that Ed Thomas has passed away from his injuries.

Thoughts and prayers to the family and the entire Aplington-Parkersburg community.

Wow, this is a very sad day.  Prayers go out to the Thomas family and everyone from the area.  He wasn't just a football coach, he was a community leader that really pulled everyone together after the tornado last year.  He will be missed.  Very sad day.

WOW!

Personally I have never met Ed Thomas or ever even been to an AP football game before.  But his contribution to football on every level from HS to NFL is pretty significant.

What a shock.  Especially in a small Iowa town.  I'm curious as to why someone would do this.  Not just to a guy like Ed Thomas but to any human being.

I am in shock. I had met Ed Thomas a few times through his brother Greg. How senseless and futile. My heart goes out to the family and to the AP community.

My condolences go out to the AP family and the state of Iowa as Mr Thomas was a class act and IMHO an Iowa treasure.  Walston no words can express the loss at this time.  I really am in shock at this.

I don't know what to add that hasn't already be said other than "A GREAT MAN WAS TAKEN WAY BEFORE HIS TIME"

I've been thinking about all the things I heard Coach Thomas say following the tornado and found this quote:

"I think you've understood since Day 1 that this wasn't some ordinary season," Thomas said.

Now they'll have to endure another season with even more on their minds.

Rest In Peace Coach Thomas. And our prayers go out this his wife and family.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

KCRG TV-9 (home of Sportsknight) will be streaming the DCI press conference from Parkersburg @ noon (CDST), who know he may even be operating the camera.

Thoughts and prayers out to Ed's family and the whole AP family...today is a very sad day for iowa athletics as Ed Thomas was a legend for his role on the football field as well as his selfless acts this past year during the tornado cleanup efforts.  It was no shock that this story has spread throughout the world from cnn to espn...Ed Thomas became a world-wide known figure in the past year, but has always been a legend here in Iowa....RIP

Wow -- what a shocking, senseless act. My thoughts and prayers go out to the A-P football family. Ed Thomas was so much more than a football coach -- he was a driving force that brought the community together when they needed it most. He acted as a community organizer, leader, voice of reason, and mentor to many. He never met a stranger - all he met were considered friends. He worked to instill a sense of honor and respect in his players. He was so much more than "just" a football coach. I had the pleasure of meeting him twice, and I remember the energy and passion with which he spoke.

What a tragic loss....

Sensless doesn't even begin to describe this tragedy. I cannot imagine what would make someone take the life of a truly good person like that. Doing it in front of all of those young people is indefenseable.

wow....read this:

On June 20, 2009, at approximately 9:05 p.m., Cedar Falls police officers were dispatched to 802 N. Union Road on a report of a male subject who had broken out several windows on the house with a baseball bat and then driven his vehicle through the overhead garage door. Just prior to officers arriving on scene, the subject fled in his vehicle and was observed leaving the area westbound on West 1st Street. Officers gave pursuit out of Cedar Falls and into Grundy County. During the pursuit speeds occurred in excess of 80 mph. Adjoining counties and the Iowa State Patrol were notified of the pursuit. The subject was stopped and apprehended in Butler County by the Butler County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol. The subject was identified as:
Mark Daryl Becker Age 24
21306 270th St
Parkersburg, IA 50665.
The Butler County Sheriff's office took Becker into custody, and Becker was apparently later taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Cedar Falls Police was awaiting notification that the subject was to be released from custody in order to arrest Becker and file the charges relevant to the Cedar Falls incident. The Cedar Falls Police has charges pending against Becker for Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Eluding law enforcement officials and other traffic offenses. Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree and Eluding are Class D felonies.

My deepest sympathy to former Knight, Todd Thomas, and the entire Thomas family.  Nothing any of us can say will adequately measure the impact Coach Thomas had on his community and Iowa high school athletics.  Whether we have ever met him or not, we have all lost a good friend.  :'(

Heys,

I will consider coming to that game should the Wartburg/Central game not have an impact on the conference AQ.  I would like to see you the Mrs, and Heys3 again.  Is 3 still growing?  Never hurts to do some recruiting  ;D ;D
