Nice windfall for Central enrolling 50 kids...in these tough economic times the bean counters at Central ought consider McMartin their best buddy.

25k x 50 = $1.25M in tuition  (not counting scholarship/aid)

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 megabuck of incremental gross income from your football program...SDSU can't even break even.  (I know it's not the same)

I guess the Central JV team will be well stocked.

The real benefit will be sideline views of home games.    8)

I wonder how many girlfriends or best buddies who don't play football enroll too.

Figuring McMartin is a straight up guy not promising the less-than-promising enrollee any chance other than to get an opportunity to take to the practice field and let his hard work and talent do the talking...how could there be any issue?

It will be interesting to see how many remain with the team and/or with the school for all 4 years...given normal attrition.

Unless Central gives out aid like Wartburg ;)

I recently talked to the father of a former Wartburg football player.  After all the aid was doled out his son went to Wartburg for 2k per year.  I'm guessing most kids didn't get that kind of aid...but if they did...and Central is similar in their aid...that would work out to...

2k x 50 = 100k in tuition

Maybe they are counting on these kids to bring in girlfriends and buddies from high school like PH says.  Or, that their parents will buy a lot of hot dogs and pop at the concession stand at their sons games over the next 4 years!!!

When you type financial aid, do you consider student loans in the  financial aid bucket?  Or are you just referring to grants and scholarships?

Central is a great school with a great football program. It's not surprising that kids want to go there and play. I'm putting my money on Snead to win the starting quaterback job. Also look for them to return to form this year.

Is 50 new recruits really that many? I figured every IIAC school brought in at least that many if not more? Considering very few if any graduate more then 20 or so seniors of their team, usually the freshman class is the largest, followed by soph, junior, & senior in that order. So, considering most teams have rosters of 100-150, 50 freshman, 30-40 soph, 20-30 juniors, 10-20 seniors = 110 to 140 would be about normal.

Central just realized they cannot live off their reputation alone anymore to compete in recruiting with everyone else. And I am sure hit the trails a little harder this year if 50 is a large new class for them.

Word out of the spartan nation is that the roster is looking pretty thick as well with the majority of student-athletes coming from iowa, illinios, & wisconsin.

Looking forward to the season! GO SPARTANS!!

Financial aid, in my book, is/are $$ that do not need to be paid back.

A loan is money that gives the borrower the benefit of deferred payment with the school getting its money from the lender.  It is transparent to the school as far as the received revenue.

Jr.'s class was 9 players of which 5 remain and all start and most have started for at least 3 years. (Bladt, King, Macey, Siar, Zasada)  That year Cornell made a coaching change and Dillon got a very late start on recruiting.

Cornell's incoming numbers have been in the mid-20's to low-30's...I expect this year's class to be a good sized class in relative terms, but probably it won't be 50 (though it would be nice).  I also think we may get a bit more attrition, as kids discover they can't handle the Evelyn Wood class format.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Wartburg Fan

I"m happy for that Wartburg father that only has to pay 8k for four yrs of college. Cause my son played for the Knights and I can tell you he has to pay back alot more then 8k. So I guess they don't hand out the grants to everyone !
