Other than the Nov. 7 showdown at Wartburg with Wartburg vs. Central, what are some of the other big game dates in the conference this year?

For UD and the beginning of the Zweifel Era, all games will be big ones this year.

Other than optimisticaly putting a W down for UD vs. Rockford, I'd say the only Saturday that will be good for the Spartans is Oct. 31 ... a bye.  Platteville, Central, Loras ,Wartburg and Luther all at home won't be easy, but UD might come out of those 5 games at 3-2.  Having to face Cornell, Coe, Simpson and BV on the road will be tough.  Overall, 5-5 wouldn't suprise me ... 6-4 would be nice ... and 7-3 would make me ecstatic.

GO SPARTANS!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

October 31st, Wartburg @ Luther. Hopefully the game is as entertaining as the Halloween antics are bound to be.

Even SK is considering this date, to take in his first football game at Carlson Stadium.
Coincidence?? I think NOT.

It would sure be sweet if Central could beat seventh ranked Stevens Point in Pella on 9/12.

Games of the Week (so far anyway):
Sept. 5:
Loras @ Monmouth - Should be a good indication of how both teams will look this year, especially how the Duhawks will enjoy life after McGrew.
Cornell @ Grinnell - Rams best chance for a win?  Probably
BV @ UW-Platteville - An early preview of how well the Beavers will follow up 2008.

Sept. 12:
UW-Stevens Point @ Central - We should have a real good idea whether the Dutch will return to championship contender statuse based on how they perform here.

Sept. 19:
Simpson @ Loras - Very much a "contender or pretender" game.

Sept. 26:
BV @ Simpson, Coe @ Central - An edge in the standings available in match-ups between two teams that have fared very well in the IIAC over the past 5 years and two others looking to own the next five.

Oct. 3:
Loras @ BV - Always an interesting game when the league's geographical extremes get together, especially so now that both think they have a shot at the crown.

Oct. 10:
BV @ Wartburg, Simpson @ Central - Two of the new contenders try to stage an uprising against the programs that have owned this league over the past decade.  Keep in mind that Central has owned Simpson over that stretch and BV usually gets their ass handed to them whenever they come to Waverly.

Oct. 17:
Coe @ Wartburg - As Loras, Simpson, and BV have moved up in the league standings, the Kohawks seem to have slid the other way.  Can they stay relevant to the league title chase by spoiling the Knight homecoming?

Oct. 24:
Cornell @ Bye - At least they won't lose this week.

Oct. 31:
BV @ Central - On the third to last week of the regular season, we find out which team is a trick and which is a treat in the IIAC Championship race.

Nov. 7:
Central @ Wartburg - Like you even had to ask.

Nov. 14:
Simpson @ Wartburg - I'm tempted to believe this has a better chance of deciding the league title than the game in Waverly seven days earlier.

(cough) Loras bias (cough)

Actually, very good rundown of what are potentially big games this upcoming season.

IIAC Board Quiz:

1) List the first three schools (in order) to post their fall 2009 season preview online.  Central, Wartburg, Coe

All I need is Coe to step up and Prediction Number 1 is complete   ;D

Droessler joins Knights' coaching staff

Aug. 05, 2009

Wartburg College Director of Athletics Rick Willis recently announced that former Bemidji State University of Minnesota graduate assistant coach Damian Droessler has been named as running backs coach for the Knights' football staff.

Droessler replaces former coach Dan Hammes who left Wartburg to take a position in the strength and conditioning department at the University of Iowa. He was in charge of wide receivers for the Beavers from 2007-09. He was also a graduate assistant at UW-Platteville, his alma mater, in 2006 where he worked with the Pioneer running backs.

A 2005 graduate of UW-P with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health, Droessler starred on the playing field for the Pioneers as well earning second team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2005 as an all-purpose back.

Man on lawnmower during beer run charged with DUI

(AP) – 4 hours ago

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — With a revoked license because of a previous drunken-driving conviction, Dennis Cretton shouldn't drive. But authorities said that didn't stop the 49-year-old man from drunkenly driving up to a gas station for more beer — on his yellow riding lawnmower.

Cretton was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence after neighbors reported he was weaving in and out of traffic on his lawnmower Friday night.

When deputies tried to stop him, authorities said Bretton drove the mower into his home's front yard, his 12-pack of Milwaukee's Best spilling onto the ground along the way.

Cretton was free on $10,000 bond. Calls to his home went unanswered Tuesday.

(Purple)  Games of the Week

9/5: Cornell @ Grinnell - Payback...end the streak...win game.  How many motivating factors do we need?

9/19: Wartburg @ Cornell - 1st chance at that elusive IIAC win

9/26: Dubuque @ Cornell - DBQ not up to Zweifel speed yet (hopefully)  - 2nd chance at IIAC win (or 2nd IIAC win  ;)  )

10/10: Luther @ Cornell - Homecoming (I hope to be able to attend this one...)

10/31: Cornell @ Simpson - Night Game on Halloween.  Jr.'s going as Juggernaut, hopefully Simpson won't come as X-men so he won't be stopped.

11/7:  Loras @ Cornell - Cornell Senior Day.  Jr.'s last home game.  Both Cuban side and Scottish-German side will be in attendance.

11/14:  Cornell @ Coe - Jr.'s last collegiate game ( :'(  )  Would like to be in attendance...at least Coe videocasts.

Note:  Coe is not our last chance at an IIAC win...we will have already ended that streak by that time.

AEN,

If I had never left Dubuque maybe that would have been me ;)

Fortunately for me hitting the age of 40, combined with being the father of three has greatly curtailed my alcohol intake.  Also lucky for me my wife keeps "Casa de doolittle" fully stocked with alcohol so there has never been a need for me to make a beer run if I had ever felt so inclined.  All these years with a cupholder on my lawnmower and it never occurred to me to put a beer in one.  I suppose most of the time I am just worried about finishing the damn lawn in time to run inside and listen to the Dubuque game than to think about enjoying a cold one while going back and forth over the lawn.
