Watching and reading coverage of ISU media day makes me thankful that we open 3 weeks from tonight and not 9 days later.
I know there won't be IIAC games, but are there any college games that last weekend of August?

Near as I can tell from ESPN it's Thursday Sept. 3rd for the start of the season.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/schedules?year=2009&week=1&season=2&groupId=80

That thursday we get South Carolina at North Carolina St at 6pm an ESPN...followed by Oregon at Boise St. at 9:15pm

Not a bad way to start off the season.  Sounds like this season is starting a week later than last year.  I am pretty sure we had D1 starting Aug. 28 last year with D3 starting a week later.

Storm Chaser

I don't know how readily available it is but Northwest Missouri opens at Abilene Christian on CBS Sports Network on August 27th -  so a little D-2 action leading off the season.
Supposedly a National Broadcast according NWM website.

Lets face it. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer belly---- and still think they're hot.

Those are two great quotes.

Interesting piece in the Grand Rapids Press today re: the MIAA and its place in D3 football.  D3 schools in Michigan - Adrian, Hope, Alma, Kalamazoo, Albion and Olivet (defending league champ Trine is in Indiana) -
have to compete for talent in light of 5 D1 and 8 D2 schools in the state.

The IIAC is, in my opinion, in a much better situation for recruiting home-grown and nearby talent.

This is Iowa Private School Week.  My boss' oldest son visited Wartburg today (his dads alma mater).  Wartburg took a picture of everyone visiting today and then put their individual picture on a Be Orange magazine they could take home to their parents.  He is pretty geeked up about it.  His parents were until they saw the 30 some odd K it would cost per year.  He is just going into his junior year of high school so they still have some time to figure finances out.  He's not an athlete.

As we see with the Des Moines kids in Iowa.  Bigger city kids don't always want to go D3.  In Michigan you would see a lot of that.  I see that as much of a problem for the D3 schools in Michigan as having 5 D1 and 8 D2 schools in the state.  While I agree that rural kids in Iowa will be open to D3, there are also 10 NAIA schools in our state.  Plus, D2 caliber athletes can find their way to NSIC schools in Iowa and Minnesota.  The NSIC recruits heavily in Iowa.  Overall though, I would think the IIAC is in a better situation for bringing kids into their schools than the MIAA schools have for their state.

I resigned as the Broncos head coach because of illness and fatigue. The fans were sick and tired of me.

Purple Heys

Just booked the flight, car and room...Me, Mrs. Heys and Senorita Heys will attend the Grinnell opener.  Rev. 3 can't come because HS Football is underway by then.

Will also be at the 11/7 game at Cornell - Rev. 3 will be at this one...

Any Ram fans from this board going to Grinnell?

One thing about the season previews before the start of camp...that seems to preclude the chance to include any hot newcomers until you've confirmed they've shown up.

PH:  I agree with your comment about previews being released prior to camp opening.  I refer you to my posting of August 2nd.  I thought Wartburg might wait for the release, but hopefully they will keep the faithful advised about changes that transpire during the first three weeks of camp.

As for SID Adkins' preseason review of Knight Football, I can wait for it.  I'm sure he wants to be sure who shows up for the start of practice and who stays after the first week or so.  There are generally some surprises on both counts.

It appears we may have some regular posters sitting on the sidelines waiting for the season to start.  Over on the NWC site they have begun a roll call to determine the status of the regulars.

Since Airborne Dutch is going to be overseas this season perhaps he could do us the honor of serving as our platoon leader and get the roll call on the IIAC board completed.
