Whoa Nellie! What an exciting football game today in St. Paul, Minn., between the Coe College Kohawks and the St. Thomas Tommies. Trailing 21-7 at half, the Kohawks rallied on the strength of a stout defensive effort and some big plays on offense. Best of all, the Kohawks seem to have found their quarterback in Andy Tekippe. I'm looking forward to next week's Coe-Central game in Pella.

Loras blows a nine-point lead with 5:50 to go in the game...gives up a 47-yard field goal as time expires.

Touchdown Augsburg.  Just like that.

29-26 Wartburg is the final.  Augsburg tried for a game-tying field goal as time expired, but it was no good.  Finish was very reminiscent of last year's contest at Auggie.

I read the Coe game release and nothing was said about Suckow.  Did he play or get hurt???  Sounds like Northern had a good game though.

Wartburg, oouch again.  Last week you lose to a team which was 5-5 last year, this week you eek out a victory over the bottom feeder of the MIAC.  Nobody would consider Augsburg tough.

Central fans, don't get too excited.  Bethel should have won the game.  Bethel outgained you over 2-1.

Coe, good victory, St. Thomas is tough.

Loras, same old same old.

lorbec47

Pakk,
Wonderful insight. Were you even at the Loras game? That was definitely not the same Loras team. Down 19-7, (and looking ill) at half, they come out and put on 1 heck of a display in the second half. Their offense is not even close to recent years. Ambrose has a quality 3-year starter at QB, and on the turf it was hard to stop those receivers. It's not going to be the "same ole, same ole" out of Loras.

WartTrainer

I dont know how you can say that Augsburg isnt good.  LaVessuer is an amazing athlete.  Plus we had no tape of the new look Augsburg offense.  I think the Knights  bounced back well all things considered.

Now that the non-conference games are done with we can finally start to play games that matter.

The Show

I should be able to make it to the Loras/BV game this weekend, so we'll see about the "same old, same old".  Loras' DB's are going to need a good week of practice.

Floyd in Iowa City

St. Olaf destroyed the Luther Defense in the 37-13 loss.  The Norse Offense gained 440 yards but a 2nd quarter fumble down on the St. Olaf 2 by a new fullback really got the Norse in a big hole.  The situation kind of reminded me of when Bob Sanders hit Maroney down on the goal line in Kinnick in 2003 in that the game really seemed to shift in Iowa's favor.

Luther laid a couple of eggs early last season as well, but they have a lot of work to do on defense before they can even think about the IIAC race.  St. Olaf looks like a 7-3 team like they were last season.

Good win by Coe today and the stat line on the Central game is just amazing!  Other than Luther the IIAC found a way to get it done against the MIAC.

I think things are more cloudy about who the real contenders are for the IIAC title than they were before the season started.  Coe hasn't dropped the ball yet, but do they or anyone else look like a real playoff contender?

Central still finds ways to win games even when it looks like they shouldn't have.  They are the Ohio State of the Iowa Conference at this point.

It is still early though.  At this point the league looks deep but no dominant program has yet to appear.
