Central will beat Wartburg by 10+  (no playoffs again for the Knights.....I use to think they best program by far, but I'm having my doubts.)

BV over Cornell by +14

Luther over UD +7

Coe over Loras +21

I predict Coe and Central are undefeated when they face each other on 11/4.  These two teams have the best shot and becoming a national power in the years ahead.

Wow, Monday seems a little early for the weekly pick-em. Congrats to all of the winners over the weekend....both on the field and in our little pick-em contest. :)

My picks:
Central over Wartburg -- the Knights roll into town for Central's Homecoming. (By the way, anyone planning on going to the game, drop me a line before hand...)
BV over Cornell
Coe over Loras
UD over Luther -- this is my upset pick of the week.

The Wartburg clan planning on coming to the game?  Come visit the tailgate with a Wartburg alum and Dutchfans in the parking lot by the Soccer field.  I will have some Dutch letters  ;D

I must say that when I opened up D3football.com this afternoon and looked at the front page and saw an article about Cornell and BV trying to stop their losing streaks, I was disgusted.  The IIAC works very hard for respect and recognition around the country.  In a week where Central and Wartburg (arguably the two most successful programs in IIAC history) are playing each other, the first thing that people see about our conference is two teams that have 1 win between them.  Does this peeve anyone else?

Why aren't we writing articles about a top twenty five team hosting a team that has received votes and has a number of championships in recent years?

No offense to Cornell or BV, but I'd much rather people that check this site know about the nationally meaningful games, not a game that reminds me of the "Bush bowl" in the NFL from a year ago.  Correct me if I'm wrong...

Belated congrats to Simpson and Coe for how well both programs seemingly took control of the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  The Storm had to be really happy with how they were finally able to run the ball for the first time all season, and Coe looks like they dominated up front on Saturday as well.

Will B.V. also get healthy in the run game against Cornell this weekend?

Augsburg (Wartburg's future non-conference opponent) lost to St. Olaf (beat Luther) this past weekend, 68-17.

Bethel (beat Simpson and B.V.) lost to Carleton in what I think is a big shocker, 17-14.  The Knights are 3-0, but the other two wins were over Minnesota-Morris and Macalester.

St. John's is still undefeated after a 14-12 win over Concordia, but maybe the MIAC is going to be a little more crazy this year than the last few.  Concordia is still a tough team, but the Cobbers are now 0-3 on the season.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

You are wrong to be peeved at D3.com or Pat, your ire should be directed at Cornell who made the press release.  D3.com simply provides us with all division III press releases.  Again this article originated from Cornell and Pat is just doing his job by printing all football related press releases from all colleges in division III.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Then I'm peeved at Cornell.  Like usual...

As requested, here is Central's press release...

I have to say, I wish this game were later in the season -- this is such a huge game for both teams, and is usually played in late October/early November when conference championships are on the line. The clash of the IIAC titans shouldn't be played in September..... thank God Central has Coe later on the schedule.

Once again it is time to reflect on the sport of football.

I ask you remember Travis Hearn in your prayers.  Travis is a junior at Rock Island High School and player on the Rocks football team.  Travis was seriously injured in the Rock Island High/Rock Island Alleman game last Friday night that was held at Ericksen Field on the Augustana campus.  According to the Quad City Times Travis is still paralyzed from the shoulders down.  There is some hope that there may be some improvement as swelling goes down.  Article can be seen at www.qctimes.com .

Appropriately the JV game between Muscatine and Rock Island has been cancelled tonight.

Any of the players from the Quad Cities area who have participated in the Mississippi Athletic Conference (Iowa) or the Western Big Six (Illinois) know that it is a battle every week  They expect big hits play after play, but never do they expect this.

I don't know Travis, but it sounds like he is a great kid.  I hope and pray his condition will improve.  Forget separation of church and state. I'm sure we'll have a moment of prayer before games in the MAC and WB6 this Friday night..

Just checked the play-by-play from the Wartburg-Luther game.  Luther called a timeout after throwing Van Rees for a loss of two to set up 3rd and 7.  That was their 2nd timeout of the second half, and they had one left.  There were 23 seconds left in the game at that point.  If Wartburg kneels it on that play, Luther calls their last TO and its 4th and 9 or 10 with about 19 seconds left.  I really don't see a problem with trying to get a first down to completely kill the clock.

with 23 seconds left and down by 4 I think that they were correct in calling the TO.  But you do have to be ready for the possibility of that happening.  I don't blame Wartburg for scoring.  They put the game out of reach.  LUther still had a chance and the D didn't do their job in getting the ball back.  I don't see it as running up the score.

I doubt Cornell forced anyone to put that on the front page. Im pretty sure it is just the press release from their website.

It's the weekly press release for the upcoming game which is not only posted on the athletic web site but also sent out to folks in the press. How or where they decide to post it is pretty much upto them.

Why is the issue of throwing on 3rd down such a big deal. Was it an ideal call, probably not (not in my mind). But, the game played for 60 minutes, therefore you play to win until the game is in doubt (in this scenario both the Knights and Norse did what they thought was best). Chances are good Wartburg has to punt if they run the ball, so why not throw the ball if you have confidence in getting the first down. In my mind the knights were not trying to run up the score, rather just playing 60 minutes of football and beating the Norse.

You play until the final whistle blows.  You play to score points until there is no way for the other team to win.  Enough said.  On to a new topic.

Tonight's news reported that Travis Hearn said he had feelings in his toes after he woke up from spinal surgery that removed bone chips.  No movement yet.  Keep praying.
