Not very clear on how this year is going to play out...I have a feeling this years Central team went into the offseason with a little extra motivation because of last years finish... Sneed might end up being one of the best QB's in the league this year if he can stay heathly...the rest of the rankings have no real reason behind them...Looking forward to Kick-off!

Coe is going to win every game this year scoring nine on avg. and keeping the opposition averaging 7.  Elliot Rausa will be named IIAC MVP.  His average field goal will be from 37 yards out.

If Sportswipe can rank Coe second to last than I can rank Wartburg second to last.

But hey, at least you aren't taking things personally.  ::)

I'm not going to apologize for putting the Kohacks second to last.  I'll grant you they have the league's best kicker and linebacking corps, but you need more than that to be a contender.  Hammes is a pretty good back, but I don't think there's any guarantee he can have the year he had last year when Coe has to replace all five offensive linemen.  And if other teams in the league have no need to stack the box against him, that allows them to drop more guys into coverage to confuse whoever the new QB will be.

Beyond that, there's a very small number of things I can feel safe in guaranteeing you'll never see in the Iowa Conference.  And a kicker being the league MVP is one of those things.

Knowing Dubuque, they would flood the town with purple and gold cans and not even consider blue and white ones.

Actually, I know a girl that does marketing for the local Bud operation.  She's a Wartburg alum.  Maybe I can talk her into getting black and orange cans here for the two weeks that the Knights come to town.

I think the Simpson - Wartburg game decides the conference champ this year.

Remember all the talk on here last year at this time bemoaning the fact that the conference championship game between Central and Wartburg had to be played so early in the season :D

Though, you might be on to something.

This just in, Wartburg Head Coach Willis names Nick Yordi as the new Knight's kicker.

Last year at this time I was sure of about a hand full of things for the IIAC.

1. UD, despite losing a large and talented senior class would not rebuild, they would reload...WRONG.
2. Loras, coming off a 1-7 conference campaign would be in for more of the same...WRONG
3. BV, despite a talented incoming freshman class, would struggle due to small recruiting classes the previous 2 years...WRONG
4. Simpson, with new coach Glo were in for good things.  But not for a few more years...WRONG
5. Central doesn't rebuild, they reload...WRONG...at least for 1 year that is!!!

I'm in for the pick-ems this year.  I just don't expect to do very well :'(

Have to wonder if they'll be shipping black and orange ones to Waverly, or purple and gold/black and blue to Dubuque, etc.

Quoted from the article:

"...Elizabeth Altmaier, the U of I's faculty athletics representative, said she opposes associating college athletics with alcohol.

"There may not be a tiger hawk on the can, but it's clearly meant for fans of U of I athletics, and that is not the message we wish to send," she said..."

I never knew it was called a Tiger Hawk.   Didn't the term Hawkeyes come from the "Last of the Mohicans"?  ???

What say the supporters of the "State University of Iowa"?

The Tigerhawk was a logo commissioned by Hayden Fry when he became head coach @ U of Ia. He wanted to get rid of anything to remind fans/players about the history of losing. He also stole (with permission) the uniform design from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers sent a Terry Bradshaw jersey, he quipped the only problem was they didn't send Bradshaw in the jersey.
