Looks like quite a few 4A (Iowa largest schools) and still support from smaller schools as usual.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

W'loo Courier article on Nick Yordi / media day
http://wcfcourier.com/articles/2009/08/28/sports/local/11664857.txt
"I think I set higher expectations on myself and goals for myself than just about anyone does," Yordi said Thursday at Wartburg media day.

Through 15 practices, the Knights' signal caller has continued to earn the respect of his teammates. He's constantly pushing himself and never wants to lose a two-minute drill against his defense.

"He works as hard as anyone who doesn't have a set job," receiver Matt Gustafson said of Yordi, a three-year starter. "It's amazing watching him at practice. During conditioning, he's running his sprints as hard as anyone else."

The only thing that could make Nick Yordi greater is if he could be coached by Coach Zweifel.

Best of luck to anyone who tries to pronounce the name of the second guy listed as #28.

Quite a few more out of state guys than previous years too.

I thought it was accepted as fact on here that you can only win the IIAC title with a team full of Iowa kids ;D

I wouldn't want to try that name.
Most of your out-of-staters aren't from too far away. You could use some Hawaiians and Filipinos. A few of them have names that are nearly impossible for the average Mainlander to pronounce.

Since EMU is near Dearborn, MI, I taught a number of students with names similar to #28.  The pronunciation is actually quite easy (assuming he does it like the others) as long as you break it down by syllables (and remember that a q without a u is essentially a k): the first name is just like it looks (though go light on the l, and the s is more a z); the last name should be ka' we sha baz.  (Anyone know if I got it? ;))

One of my favorite tongue-twisting names was a Michigan running back a few years back named Tshimanga Biakabutuka (especially favored since he almost single-handedly destroyed Ohio State in 1995 ;D).  The name really wasn't that hard to say once you practiced a few times, but I can't really blame the announcers for dubbing him "Touchdown Tim'! 8)

Doolittledog,
You forgot to add....and at least one from Arizona!

We need some AZ kids that are from near Bullhead City, AZ.  Then they can take care packages over to my wifes grandmother there when they go home to visit.  And then we won't have to mail all that stuff ;)

Wartburg and Central both seem to have a few more kids from out of state than in previous years.  Which I do think is a good thing.  I wonder when UD will get around to posting a roster  ???

AZDutchman

Hot today! Reached 115 degrees. My other sons game got postponed tonight (high school). Decided to watch Iowa high school ball on ESPN.
Looking for someone in your territory to bring care packages!

I wanted to watch the AP game.  But instead am watching the Wizards of Waverly Place movie with my daughters...and playing on here...so I can get a bit of football.

AZDutchman

That's alright. I had to do an art project with my daughter on the night of the first scrimmage game!

Topic of heat.....Googled heat related football deaths.
"Since 1995, 33 football players have died from heat stroke, according to an annual report from the University of North Carolina. "
"Last Monday, first-year Kentucky high school football coach David Jason Stinson pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless homicide in the death of Max Gilpin, a 15-year-old offensive lineman."

Son says he's been getting a lot of water breaks in Iowa!

AZDutchman -- welcome to the board! Always excited to see more Central fans on here!

Watching the A-P game really gets me in the mood for college ball. I'm a Falcon fan for the evening, though. :)
