I guess we'll find out if the Muskies have a shot at the playoffs when they lineup against Davenport Assumption tomorrow night.  Playing the four conference favorites 1-2-3-4 in a row can take the starch out of a high school team.  I'm hoping the Muskies can win tomorrow night and/or a week from tomorrow to show people they really belong in the list of Iowa's best high school teams.  ;D

Simpson and Central are the big rivals for the IIAC teams as they are only about 30-40 miles apart.  They are in adjoining counties.  So they are close in proximity.  The Billy Penn was back when Penn was a lot better in football.  I would be willing to be that Penn would be on the same level as Cornell and Grinnell.  No offense Heys.  I don't think Penn would come close to mid level in the IIAC now and not get in the top division.

Central and Wartburg have kind of been conference rivals due to those two teams being in the top spot with the exception of Coe for about 3 years.  The past eleven years Coe has 3 shared first place finishes and no outright, Wartburg has 5 first place finishes with 3 of those being outright with to shared finishes, and Central has 7 first place finishes with 2 shared titles.  Going back to 89 to make it the last 20 years Wartburg has one more outright title to make it 6 total with 4 outright, Coe still having its 3 shared titles, Simpson has 3 outright titles, and Central has 12 total with two shared.  So I don't know if that really makes Central and Wartburg rivals but lately those teams have had a lot to say about who the champ is.

AZDutchman I don't know if you know about the IIAC web site.  Here is the link and you can get some interesting stuff off of it.

After considerable thought:

I've come to the conclusion that I can comfortably say, " Screw Walston-Hoover's brother.  He is now the enemy.  The Warthog clan will be tailgating in Little Warthog's livingroom before heading over to Walston-Hoover Stadium.  We'll be there in force cheering on the Knights. Perhaps with enough Hub City Brew we'll be as obnoxious as hell.  Regardless we'll be loud.  Coach Willis has had five days to fix the defense.  If anyone can do it, Rick Willis can do it.  Go Knights!!"

I dont know if I would call Central - Billie Penn a rivalry, here are a selection of scores...
68-0 1995
83-18 1991
70-6 1993
73-7 2000 (I believe the last meeting)

Wouldn't call that much of a rivalry.

I think Central and Wartburg has turned in to quite the rivalry over the last decade due to Central's Dominance, and Wartburgs emergence as a perennial contender. I know the games I played against Wartburg were some of the most intense and hardest hitting all year.

I played when Willy Penn and Central were big rivals.  I think they beat us something like 42-6 my soph year.  The BB games back then were also a lot of fun as we typically had several groups trying to outdo one another with the witty cheer contest.  Penn was stuck with "Rather be dead than red" and could come up with nothing else.  Kind of like Simpson stuck on FTD for 2 decades or so now.  There were even Penn patrols on campus when we had FB at Pella as many a threats of vandalism were at least imagined.  Once Penn started to decline competitively the rivally quickly died out.

We also had a group known as TKB who traveled to visiting sites the night before the games to build a welcoming committee of sorts.  The Central-Wartburg rivalry may have started with their display of tombstones for Knight players on campus in Wave-town before our game in perhaps '77???

I think I have little better outlook on the IIAC teams.

But now I'm a little confused on the who's who of the IIAC era's?
So let's sum it up....

Coe and Cornell 1902 match up?....Purple Heys was there! He new that the article was 10 years old and admitted to being in the "horse and buggies going back to Mount Vernon."
Plus there's an eye witness photograph of him playing with such intensity.

Willy Penn and Central?.....Old Dutch would be the one to see. "I played when Willy Penn and Central were big rivals.  I think they beat us something like 42-6 my soph year." So, seeing that there's no recorded record of this victory on the internet. I would put that into the early 1920's. Adding that they used cheers like, "Rather be dead than red", that would verify that.

And if I wanted to tie one on in this era (no matter which match up), I would go to Little Warthogs livingroom before the game!

Oh, and I almost forgot. Use a can of Pringles instead of aluminum foil to get a better picture for the game this weekend. Purple Heys

I do have to say I was feeling a little old and a little crazy before I read these, but now I feel just fine! ;D :o ::)

Whaat IIAC schools video-cam football games?  Other athletic events?

Wartburg's streaming schedule is @ http://www.go-knights.net/videos.html.
Just football this weekend.

I don't know much about the IIAC, but how do you think Loras will match up with Millikin?  Millikin has been a dog in the CCIW the past few years.

Thanks

Loras I think is in a rebuilding year.  They have been a middle of the pack to lower end IIAC team in years past.  The can play well or they can play poorly.  I don't know much about them this year but an 0-1 start is not good but not unheard of for them.  I am guessing if Millikin does not bring their A game Loras can put up a W on them.

Thanks  Dutchfan

I am sooo ready to see Central beat a top ten team.  And as long as I'm looking for miracles, a clearer webcast picture than I got last year would be nice.  I'm one of those guys who, the more he gets, the more he wants.

And on another subject, has anyone ever tried the beer from the Stevens Point Brewery?  I haven't seen it in a long time.  Lately, the cheapest beer in my neighborhood beer depot has been the stuff from LaCrosse.  It is mediocre but the price is right and the cans and the thirty pack case have a pretty picture on them.

Am I looking at a future problem in watching the Central game on webcast? I listened to the game last week and it was so full of static, I was about to attach aluminum foil to my computer to get better reception. If there were past problems, does anybody know some tricks to getting a quality picture?? :o

Sorry.  I was just being fussy.  The picture isn't what you are used to from watching football on a real television but it is great just to be able to watch at all.  Last year whoever handles the one camera did a pretty good job of following the action and zooming in and out every so often to keep it interesting.  The great things are, there are no commercials and the camera stays on the field for the half time so you can see the dance team rather than going back to our studios in New York for a bunch of blather.  I never had trouble with static on the KRLS webcast but sometimes it can buffer (whatever that is)  to the point that it gets hard to listen to.
