I think I have little better outlook on the IIAC teams.

But now I'm a little confused on the who's who of the IIAC era's?
So let's sum it up....

Coe and Cornell 1902 match up?....Purple Heys was there! He new that the article was 10 years old and admitted to being in the "horse and buggies going back to Mount Vernon."
Plus there's an eye witness photograph of him playing with such intensity.

Willy Penn and Central?.....Old Dutch would be the one to see. "I played when Willy Penn and Central were big rivals.  I think they beat us something like 42-6 my soph year." So, seeing that there's no recorded record of this victory on the internet. I would put that into the early 1920's. Adding that they used cheers like, "Rather be dead than red", that would verify that.

And if I wanted to tie one on in this era (no matter which match up), I would go to Little Warthogs livingroom before the game!

Oh, and I almost forgot. Use a can of Pringles instead of aluminum foil to get a better picture for the game this weekend. Purple Heys

I do have to say I was feeling a little old and a little crazy before I read these, but now I feel just fine! ;D :o ::)

I am glad you are just fine now.  Thats us on the IIAC Board here to serve and make it all better.  I must say Purple Heys looks really really good for having been at that 1902 game.   ;D ;D ;D

Just thought I better let the IIAC coaches know the next generation is starting football.  With one practice there is a glimer of hope that this next generation will be just as good.  Time will tell, a long ways to go from 5 to 18 but from what dad sent me in an email there is hope that this next generation is off to a good start for football.

I am sooo ready to see Central beat a top ten team.  And as long as I'm looking for miracles, a clearer webcast picture than I got last year would be nice.  I'm one of those guys who, the more he gets, the more he wants.

And on another subject, has anyone ever tried the beer from the Stevens Point Brewery?  I haven't seen it in a long time.  Lately, the cheapest beer in my neighborhood beer depot has been the stuff from LaCrosse.  It is mediocre but the price is right and the cans and the thirty pack case have a pretty picture on them.

Am I looking at a future problem in watching the Central game on webcast? I listened to the game last week and it was so full of static, I was about to attach aluminum foil to my computer to get better reception. If there were past problems, does anybody know some tricks to getting a quality picture?? :o

AZ - sorry about the poor audio quality on the first hour or so of last week's broadcast via the internet.  The antenna that pulls the over-the-air broadcast and puts it on the web was out-of-whack and whoever was in charge at the station wasn't monitoring it properly.  If you notice this in the future, the phone number to the radio station is somewhere on the website, just look it up and call and tell them to fix the antenna!!
Listen to Central College football on 92.1 KRLS, www.kniakrls.com and the KRLS app.

Simpson and Central are the big rivals for the IIAC teams as they are only about 30-40 miles apart.  They are in adjoining counties.  So they are close in proximity.  The Billy Penn was back when Penn was a lot better in football.  I would be willing to be that Penn would be on the same level as Cornell and Grinnell.  No offense Heys.  I don't think Penn would come close to mid level in the IIAC now and not get in the top division.

I played when Willy Penn and Central were big rivals.  I think they beat us something like 42-6 my soph year.  The BB games back then were also a lot of fun as we typically had several groups trying to outdo one another with the witty cheer contest.  Penn was stuck with "Rather be dead than red" and could come up with nothing else.  Kind of like Simpson stuck on FTD for 2 decades or so now.  There were even Penn patrols on campus when we had FB at Pella as many a threats of vandalism were at least imagined.  Once Penn started to decline competitively the rivally quickly died out.
I went to Central from 67-71 and Penn and Simpson were both rivals with the threats of game week vandalism etc. etc.  I got to see two IIAC players who went on to have NFL careers play against each other, Vern DenHerder at Central and Wilbur Young at William Penn.  I think they were both in the same class.  Or I should say they went to school at the same time.  No one from Billy Penn is in the same class with anyone from Central.

Better tell Tim to get busy.  We want the next generation coming to Central, not Wartburg.   ;)  Just trying to save you from having to change your name and losing those 3000+ posts.  Wouldn't want  you to go back to JV status.   ;)

Well the two uncles will have to fight it out for the respective schools.  I don't know what dad will say about him and his choice for school.  As for going back to JV status I will never stop being a Dutchfan.  I may have to have a hyphon in it.  Once a Dutchman always a Dutchman.  (even though I'm mostly Irish)  ;D  I am sure that Tim will have some pointers for the lad as he grows up and learns the game.  Tim's older brother my #1 son and the dad will want him to show the young lad the ropes.  #2 son was a decent fb player in HS but pursued academics and played tennis for that evil empire  ;D ;D.  I am sure that he will try to pursue him to go to the darkside.  Family events and family football games are always interesting with those two on the field at the same time.  With the next generation starting it won't be dull I can say that.  I do think that #2 grandson will be a defensive player he is the bruiser of those two.  # 2 grandson is a bit jealous that he can not play yet.  At 3 he is just football crazy.  So here's to lots of good football in the future.

Dubuque Telegraph-Herald has a story about the two Dubuque public high schools each playing one home game at UD's Chalmers Field this season.

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=256317

I know Dubuque Wahlert has played at Loras' Rock Bowl the last few years.  Do any high schools play at the other IIAC schools fields?  That might be a subtle recruiting tactic to employ.  Especially with more IIAC schools having artificial turf they don't have to worry about their field getting ripped up.

Unless its Simpson, then it would be a recruiting hindrance.........

Its not at all rare for there to be high school games at Walston Hoover Stadium on Friday ngihts.  Usually small school teams that can "meet in the middle" in Waverly because some of the small school districts in Iowa cover such a large area.

I know Clayton Ridge High School in Guttenberg played a game at UD last fall, but I can't remember who they played.  Maquoketa Valley maybe?

When I worked in Pella, Pella Christian played a game at Central.  I think they've also moved playoff games to Central's field due to bad field conditions at the competing high schools.

I've had the Cascade Pale Ale a few times and I'm a fan.  Some good stuff right there.  I also had the Classic Amber once upon a time, but honestly don't remember how it was.  That was around midnight of a St. Patrick's Day weekend binge in Chicago.

I think that is a good thing to do to get kids thinking about your school.

With the way Wartburg and the City of Waverly partnered to get the W built.  I would think other schools might be able to use that model in the future.  Have a partnership between the college, the city, and the school district and with all that money you could probably build a football stadium with quite a few bells and whistles!!!

I (Waterloo Columbus) played at Wartburg in 2001 against Waverly in a highschool game.
Marion played Waukon at Coe the first week of their season because their(Marion) field was flooded
I think Anamosa played Monticello at Coe too because Anamosa was flooded out as well

I think you need the list of favorite hangover cures too.

Here's mine:  (As posted previously)

Taco Bell : The "Value Menu"
1 Crunchy Taco
1 Soft Taco
1 Tostada
1 Bean Burrito
1 Large Dr. Pepper

After about an hour after, you'll take a dump worthy of song.

Then, good as new.

If and when Cornell puts in turf...one concept I heard was that they would install lights and Mount Vernon High would be able to use the field too.  It would be more of a community thing...a joint venture like what they did for the women's softball field.

I think it makes sense and would help make the college more of a town focal point.

It's all about the $$ though as to when something like this would move forward.  We need sugar daddy like Dubuque.   :)
