Walston,

I really wish it was as easy as showing up! LOL!  But I think nearly everyone, including yourself would agree there's no such as an EASY victory in the Iowa Conference anymore, its great seeing all these teams giving it their all week in and week out!

Picks for the week. I assume I will continue with my unblemished record. ;D

Luther
Coe
BV

& the big IIAC game:

The Knights not getting much love in here this week.... If the game were later in the year, it would give the Wart youth more time to develop, which would benefit the Burg. However, I still think that they will show enough maturity & not allow their inexperience to get the best of them. Therefore, I will have to give the edge to the Knights. The young QB will continue to show improvement in this game.

Good Luck IIAC

One more thing, awhile back someone mentioned the Des Moines Register's coverage of an IIAC game (I am not for sure which one). Does anyone else believe it is an absolute shame the Register does not devote an entire page or two (substantive material not just box scores) to small college football in Iowa. They seem to have no problem giving a page or two the Drake Bulldogs (who we all know would lose to the top two teams in the IIAC, that is if if they had the marbles to schedule an IIAC team instead of a middle tier WIAC school).  They could even work some deal with the powers that run d3football and use their material - it is not as if 85% of the Register is filled with AP stories, anyway (mostly liberal garble from NYC where the owners/true operators of the Iowa paper reside). Maybe I (we) and people who think like us, who grew up with small college football and represent a small minority of sports page readers.

In conclusion, I would like to see more small college coverage (in all sports), but until that day I guess we will have to suffer through reading about Drake's stunning victory over Waldorf or how No. 3 UNI got beat by a D2 school and dang near got beat by one of the worst teams in 1AA (south dakota state university).

Des Moines' parent company is actually in the Washington, D.C. area.

Getting a page or two on Sunday is not going to happen, not in the Gannett world and not anywhere else. Focus on reasonable goals and complain to management. Get other D-III fans to ask for that kind of coverage. Let them know you're out there.

Almost didn't get mine in in time.

Buena Vista at Cornell - Still not sure about the Rams. BV hasn't given me any reason to believe, except holding scores down against better teams I guess, but I'm gonna go with 28-26, BV.

Dubuque at Luther - The Dubuque bandwagon stops here. Loofa, 35-21.

Loras at Coe - Coe 35-14.

Wartburg at Central - It's at Central, and the 12 sophomores thing scared me. The Dutch seem to do just enough to win. I wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way, but in a low scoring battle, and perhaps the national game of the week, I go 17-14 ... a familiar score between IIAC contenders ... Central.

Hey Tony,
You should try digesting some of that liberal garble, might be good for you.

Pat,

Thank you for correcting what was truly a collateral mistake (D.C. / NYC). I'm glad to see your Google search engine works.

I believe a page or two once a week is reasonable.  There has to be over 20 small college football programs in Iowa. Right now the register gives more space for garbage-pail eight-man high school football then they do for small college football programs and games featuring teams with a combined 200 years of football history. I am not asking for a full two pages devoted to each football program, weekly, what I am asking, is for them to feature one small college team, once a week - something more than a box score blurb. Also, I ask IOWA posters, those who read the Register daily (not just Google it after reading a d3football post) and tell me whether I am all washed up or whether its time to grab a gun and start a revolution O.A.R. style!

It does no good to complain to management if you think alone, that is why I was tossing out some feelers to see whether I am all alone on this one, I guess I am.  I am glad the makers of d3football did not think so small otherwise you would not be reading this right now.

K-Mack: digesting liberal garble is the reason why half the intercollegiate wrestling programs and many intercollegiate football programs no longer exist (Title IX), no thanks.

(gives hippy a shower)

Another thing, what conference does not allow any non-conference play - not even an exception for the playoffs? I cannot think of any reason (any logical one) for such a rule and I also cannot think of any reason any quality player would want to compete in that conference.

NESCAC, WTF?

I know it is late, but here are my picks for the weekend:

BV gets a win over Cornell:  I have come to the conclusion that the Rams are bad.  24-14

Luther over Dubuque: Dubuque has great athletes, but Luther should take out about 3 weeks of agression today.  31-17

Coe ove Loras: easiest pick of the week.  DeMoulin continues his hot hand at home.  41-10

Wartburg over Central:  something about the Knights being underdogs doesnt settle with me.  Central is great, but Wartburg wins a very close one.  21-20

Good luck to all IIAC teams today.

dbljay21

Tony,
I agree with you about having some coverage for the IIAC and small college football in the Register.  I was always shocked at how little coverage there was for as many programs and interest there was for small college football in Iowa.  Keep up the fight for the coverage.  It would be a great thing to see every week.
