Wasn't real surprised about the WB score Saturday when I heard it, but  I was when I read the box score/article about the game today.

cornell was 1-4 on red zone opportunities and managed this with only 230 yards of offense.  Their Defense definitely gave them some short fields it sounds like.

I was happy to hear these defensive stats which sounds more like what I'm used to reading about.
"Defensively,  The unit also ended with four takeaways, two blocked kicks, two sacks and seven tackles for losses."

On a separate note, I was able to play Finkbine Golf Course Friday afternoon in Iowa City. Those greens are about as nice/fast as they come for a public course.
I talked to one of the golf coaches on the putting green and he said they normally run a 11.
That is awfully slick, especially on the down hill putts.

With teams like Cornell and UD improving and becoming more of a threat, the top teams have to navigate their way successfully through teams and cannot afford an upset loss before the head to head with the better teams.

In years past, the games against the lower teams were almost guaranteed wins.  This year you better count that every week will be a battle.

I guarantee at 10-7 in the 3rd quarter with Cornell already squandering 2 trips in the red zone...some Kanigget fans were feeling fortunate...and begging for the Orange to get it in gear before the Rams figured things out.

I think there's no doubt both UD and Cornell are better than last year...and good enough to beat anyone, anytime in the IIAC.

Actually we didn't have too many short fields...we took advantage when we had them...until we got inside the 10.

The Wartburg defense was pretty solid...the first half most of our drives started on the 20-25...most of Wartburg's started on the 30-40 yard line.

Our defense played pretty well...did a good job vs. the run.  Gave up only underneath stuff on the pass...Yordi's stats got padded in the 4th quarter.

I think our defense finally got down after our last failed red zone sequence...but I don't blame them...how many times can the Offense come away empty before it takes its toll.  4 turnovers against the Kaniggets is a formula for a loss.

If our defense wasn't as good as it has been, we could have lost 51-7.  They kept us in it when the offense turned it over...but the Kanigget defense wouldn't allow it when our offense got there.

The Kaniggets handled themselves like a good team should...keep battling...give up nothing...keep battling...take it when the opening is there.

Unsung (or not sung enough) for UD:  Colton Hansen....the kid throwing to Zweifel's kid deserves some of the credit.

Colton Hansen   20-28-0 Int 317 yds 3 TD  against Central.  Not bad statistics.

For all the talk of Z's QB recruits...UD is lucky to have Hansen and they wouldn't be near as dangerous without him this year.

We've got to upset his synchronization with Zweifel's kid.

I'm guessing Central will get its passing game going this week against the stingy Coe defense.  Looking at the stats, I'm a little surprised to see Leuschen only has 4 receptions so far.  I don't know how many balls have been thrown his way but I was hoping he would have a big season after being hurt in 08.

And yet, he sits out two possessions inside the 5 but comes back in for garbage time with the team down by 14?????

I think thats a bigger question then to FG or not to FG.  Because Central scored on 6 of their last 7 possessions, I can only assume DBQ didn't think they cold stop Central in order to get that 2nd FG chance.

Anyone at the game have insight on the Hansen injury for me?

I find it interesting that Wartburg is receiving votes yet no mention of a 3-0 Coe team. I know Coe hasn't beaten anyone of huge caliber but Wartburg does have a loss against a MWC team.

Not that the rankings matter that much, but I would say the d3football.com rankings are usually pretty spot on.

"They did nothing to stop freshman running back Matt Ziesel from running more than 60 yards to put the Cardinals on the scoreboard. Cardinals Coach Dan McCamey asked the Spoofhounds for their cooperation because Ziesel, 15, has Down syndrome and spent the entire season on the bench -- begging the coach to let him get some action on the field.

Hats off to both teams for showing classy levels of sportsmanship and compassion. The rival high schools are about 42 miles apart. Both are north of Kansas City near the Missouri/Kansas border."
