I think the situation would be completely different if he is a starter or if he is on the bench.  Nobody wants to see their starter talking to other schools.  If the kid isn't getting playing time then he and the coach need to sit down and talk things out.  I would imagine that wouldn't hurt the player.

I appreciate the feedback. He's a starter. He has an oppurtunity to play his final year at another University. The coaching staff where he is at now isn't the greatest.
He gave up an opportunity in the past to play with a top D1 school. I just want to make sure this decision that he wants to make goes with out any speed bumps.  :)

If a guys a starter I'd say let it be till after the season, Can't say playing with a guy who is NOT committed to your team would bolster team chemistry any.  Beyond that, there's two different scenarios here, one as the transfer student with 2-3 more years of eligibility and the other is the one year player which you describe.  The former is most certainly a welcome one, the latter is more unusual and I would think is a little more risky for a coach to take in.

I'm sure most coaches would welcome someone on the team, hopefully without promises other than if your the best player and earn a spot you can have it, but they should be careful and not give anyone the perception that a spot was promised to an incoming transfer.

There are two familiar examples we could discuss, Jake  Christianson to Eastern Illinois after losing the starting spot at Iowa last year.  Last I heard he was starting and successful at Eastern.  I'm guessing he chose them because they had a need that he felt he could fill.  The other is Suckow the roofer.  He was the go to guy at Coe, went to Wartburg and contributed successfully, but was Wartburg a better team for having him?  I'll let them decide.  Appearances are he wanted out at Coe and so it was probably a good move for him.

I believe the Knights were better off with him than without him, but he didn't leave quite as big of foot print on the Wartburg Football program as he did on Coe Football program.  I don't know why that was.  Perhaps the Wartburg offensive schemes were different.  Perhaps Wartburg had more go to running backs.  Perhaps he lost a step over the summer.  Perhaps the Coe offensive line was better than the Wartburg offensive line.

The bottom line is, Wartburg got a running back that had gone to Coe.  Coe got a quarterback that had gone to Wartburg.  Both young men contributed to the success of their new teams.  Hopefully both players were able to enjoy playing college football and isn't that really what it is all about in D3?

Appreciate the post. You're probably correct on the waiting. It's a lot of work to do after the waiting period. Application, transcripts, etc. Plus the coach can not officially speak to myself or my son. That has left an open confirmation from the side ways talks.
Being a parent, as you know, you want to make sure that you're doing things proper and in the correct manner.

With the Suckow situation (wow, you know the guy had an impact when we are still talking about him 2 years later), I would have to agree that his impact was bigger at Coe. He really burned Central in 04 with a huge game, and I'm pretty sure that he contributed pretty big in our loss in 05. I think there were just a few more playmakers at WB, so he wasn't as noticed. Still a helluva player, though. I had heard that he had considered Central as he had a buddy that played here. Oh, how nice he would have been on those 05, 06, and 07 teams.

Forget the great outdoors. It tipped the scale at 120 the other day over here. Its just mean to have it that hot. Good luck to the Dutch; however, I get the feeling that all is not lost for whoever loses todays game. You still have to get through WB and the rest of the league but I would think that a 9-1 record to finish the season would earn an at large bid. Just saying....

Only once did it reach over 120 here. I could not imagine having that on a daily bases. "Its just mean to have it that hot", is probably the kindest way to put it.  I feel really bad, because we had the oppurtunity to hide inside with the AC.
Stay cool Airborne! :P

Maybe your son should transfer to Central next year to help the Dutch beat Mount Union :)

Thought I should add......
That was way earlier in the year. This offensive line that central has is doing a great job. They should have no problem beating Mt. Union this year! ;D

Would be a shame if they weren't... Fleming, 6 catches for 240 and 3 TD's; Hansen, 366 yards passing and 5 TD's.  If no one from their team does then I do (knowing that doesn't work) and you Pat, should, because these performances are worthy.

While those stats are impressive, move a conference over and you will see Beloits Andy Christensen with 326 all purpose yards and 4 TDs. That should warrant some merit.
