Wow,  what a game.  Yes the Wartburg D did a great job.  The contained the Dutch all day.  The Dutch did surrender the yardage stat to Wartburg.  As I see it though the yardage surrendered was kind of meaning less as I recall Wartburg was only in Dutch terrritory three times the entrie day.  One time around the 35-40 of the Dutch the first half.  The second half the knights intercepted a Dutch pass at the 20.  Finally in OT at the 25.  Now thats from memory.  I did not check the stats they are not out yet.

If the Dutch don't hit that big run and the Knights don't pick that pass off it could have been 0-0 going into overtime.

Walston you were right about a defensive struggle.  I didn't think that there would be a lot of points scored but 7-7 I didn't see

The old saying really does hold true on this.  You hate to see either team lose.  It was a great game.

Another shocker  I never expected that Loras would put that many points on Coe.  I did not expect Coe to score that many points on Loras.

Congrats to the Loras Duhawks huge win for you.

Congrats to the Beavers as well a big win for you as well.

And not to be outdone Congrats to the Spartans.  Huge win for you as well.

I thought there was an exceptional Coe turnout today, and then I realized that a good section of your bleachers were actually Loras people...I couldn't believe it. Where did your students go the whole 3rd quarter? I was really surprised. No easy games in this league. Sounds like a slugfest in Pella, and a shootout in Decorah. Crazy.

KoHawk01

Tough one today for the Coe faithful!

I give nothing but the utmost respect to the Loras program....Great game today fella's .... looked like it was all done with class too, once again congrats men.

Congrats to all the others around the leage who won today .... Hopefully us KoHawks can rebound next week and get back on track

Lance Harbor

Wow!!  Congrats to UD, BV, Loras and Central today.

Looking at the box score for WB/Cen, the game looked an awful lot like the Central/Wartburg game in 2002.  Scoreless at half...neither team with more than 250 yards.  Just a few breaks here and there.

Good job to Central for defending the new home field.  When was the last time a team even came close to winning three in a row in Pella?

What a great game at Coe today. It was a very well played game on both ends. The duhawk defense did very good job slowing down the Coe spread. They for the most part took Coe out of their comfort zone. There is no doubt Coe is a hell of a team, it will be very interesting to see how they respond.

As for the Duhawks, great start to the IIAC season, keep it rolling, the season is a long way from over.

How many people picked UD to win? I know I did. Not trying to say I know all, but folks, UD is not the push over they used to be.

Pat,

Thank you for correcting what was truly a collateral mistake (D.C. / NYC). I'm glad to see your Google search engine works.

Google searching was not necessary. I worked for the company that owned the Des Moines Register for the past 12 years, smarty.

Great day in the Iowa Conference, props to Loras and Central, the Beavers and Rams played hard, I love defensive  battles. The Spartans really rolled, about time they got some recognition.

I wanted to follow up on Tony's posts and everyone else supporting more coverage in Iowa's major news sources:

Patty Cake - from what I understand Gannett owns USA Today, who you just happen to work for. Gannett also owns the Des Moines Register. So, if A+B=C, you are defending the Register's worthless coverage of the Iowa Conference because the same company signs your paycheck.

I work for NBCSports.com, which is owned by General Electric.

I'm NOT defending Gannett, beLIEVE me. Just telling you like it is in the real world.

There's no need to call names. And you ought to read the post I made -- I just said I worked for them for 12 years. Of course, that's the past tense.

It was a great day or football today in Pella.  i just wish my Knights offense could have slipped away from the shadows of Central's goalline more frequently.  My player of the game is Central's punter.  He made all the difference.

Congratulations Dutch fans.  Your team won a good game today.  The congrats were for this weekend.  Starting Monday, I'm affraid I will be wishing you ill will the rest of the season .  We need to find you a couple losses in IIAC play.

I'm sorry for your loss, Warthog, but congratulations to Central! That must have been a heck of a game. You two had quite a battle, and it wasn't the only barnburner in the IIAC yesterday.
Your conference is very interesting, as usual.
Congrats to the other winners as well.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

That about says it all for the IIAC...No easy games.  Congrats to the victors this weekend.  Sounds like an amazing weekend of IIAC action.  Great wins for the Duhawks, Spartans, Dutch and Beavers.

WARNING: Watch out for the Spartans...they are explosive!

Confused, I picked UD to win. I really think they have been cultivating the right kind of talent in Dubuque. I think the Spartains will continue to surprise people this season.

HUGE win in Pella on Saturday! I must admit, I underestimated the Knights a bit. As always, it was a defensive battle. Saturday happened to be our day -- with a different bounce, the score could easily have been reversed. Big congrats to my Dutch for a hard-earned victory! Congrats to BV and Loras as well.
