I noticed Caddy1 completely ignored what I find to be a very important statistic; tailgating balance.

Wartburg fans have shown superior balance according to these unofficial numbers:

Through four games:

Beer:                                                              Food:

Bud Light (12 oz servings)-------2732             Bratwurst-----------2028
Miller Lite (12 oz servings)-------2347             Hotdogs------------1875
Coors Light (12 oz servings)-----2074              Hamburgers--------1578
Michelob (12 oz servings)--------1852             Pork Sandwiches---1399
Corona (12 oz servings)---------1725             Barbequed Ribs-----1145
Heineken (12 oz servings)-------1674             Chicken Breasts-----943
Old Milwaukee (12 oz servings)--1595             Turkey Legs---------921
Hub City (12 oz servings)--------1230            Sub Sandwiches-----749

I think I am becoming a Wartburg fan...that kind of tailgating balance needs to be investigated.  Maybe I can tailgate with the Knight fans and then get twitter updates of the UD games while sitting in Walston Hoover Stadium ;D

Coe used to have some pretty sweet tailgaiting crowds. I can't say if they are similar, but it was pretty impressive for about 5 years.

Boo -- becoming a Wartburg fan for their tailgate! That is definitely one recruiting advantage that Central DOESN'T have....thank goodness we can usually win a few football games throughout the season....

Central tailgates, they just do it at home with the shades pulled before the game.  ;)

Well I agree with the first column that the Dutch are at a disadvantage or maybe an advantage.  Depends on how you look at it.  Don't have to worry about the hangovers or DUI's.   ;D ;D ;D  The one thing missed in all this is that the whole rest of the IIAC can not come close to the bakeries in downtown Pella.  The pastries at the tailgates in Pella are second to none.   ;D ;D ;D

On to the stats of Caddy1.  The stats are really meaningless as mentioned already.  Half of the stats are against non con opponents and there are no common non con opponents this year if memory serves.  Also as brought up a long field presents very difficult problems for teams.  If you get the ball on the 10-20 yard line and drive it 40-50 yards every time I don't think you will get many points as that only puts you at the opponents 40 yard line every series.  If you are lucky you will be at the 30.  47 yard fg's at the minimum is not a sure thing.  So all those yards are really meaningless unless you put points on the board. That is how and why the Dutch are outgained so much they play a bend but don't break D.  Also it is easier said than done to shut out players.

Caddy:

It's not the numbers, it's the matchups and the making of plays when there are plays required to be made...

Central, for example, is routinely outgained by opponents.  One might argue that they were simply "stopped" as you phrase it.

Yet they find a way to win...how would you measure that?

I believe I like to use this odd looking symbol.... "W"

Aptly put and the correct answer indeed.    :D

Even us Ram fans get that.

I am kind of excited to see what the #10 D3 team in the country looks like.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Purple Heys

I even more excited that we get the opportunity to square off against them.

I expect we'll play hard...if we sustain that for all 4 quarters, I'll have no...errr....very few complaints.  I have to leave open the possibility of a far side of the field, completely away from the play, dubious 4th down defensive holding penalty that gives the Dutch 4 more chances to score a tying TD with about 2 minutes to go, then escape in OT.

:D

But seriously, it will help define our progress if we can get in the red zone and finish this weekend.

Ask UD how that works against the Dutch.  They were fine until they got in the red zone!

Come to the Wartburg-UD game in Dubuque in a couple weeks.  Should be a good Wartburg contingent on hand, and many of them first-class tailgaters.  I'm already planning on rolling my grill over a couple hours before gametime.  Not sure what'll be on the menu yet, but I'm thinking about getting some more of my butterfly pork chop sandwiches that went over so well at the Wartburg playoff games last year.  That and lots of Sam Adams Octoberfest.

Anybody want to place an over/under on the number of beers Scotty Harris puts down after he gets inducted?  He might by a round for everyone at the Dog House after the game.

I don't know how I made it in Pella as long as I did....I'd take beer over baked goods any day. Hmm.

Best Tailgating in the Iowa Conference definitely goes to Wartburg. It's all about the game day atmosphere. However, the NWC goes for the gold. Linfield doesn't even mess around with beer in the morning -- they start with Long Islands. There's nothing like grain alcohol at 7:00 a.m.

Thoughts? Best tailgating atmosphere in the IIAC?
