A JV program is a huge advantage. I remember seeing Zachary as a freshman when the Dutch played Coe in a JV game. You could see that he was going to turn into a quality player at the varsity level. When I talked to him after the game, he seemed like a nice, humble kid. I hope he still has those qualities now that he's "The Guy" in the backfield.
He still is a nice, humble guy from the times I have been in touch with him.  He is very well mannered as also.  Central not only has great football players, we have great parents too.  Here's to you DF2004 and AZDutchman.  Nice to see your son get some varsity time.  I was really impressed with how well  the subs played in the second half.  That bodes well for the future.

I don't think the Dutch are wearing capes and invincable if that is what you are asking.  I do think that this team has the two best lines that they have had in the last 7 years since I have been following them.  They have two guys on the D line that are as big as Gunderson from SJU that are playing tackle.  The D ends are leading the conference in sacks.  The O line are pretty big guys and they have been staying on their blocks and moving opponents around to give the RB's some nice holes to fun through.  When you control the lines on both sides of the ball the way the Dutch have the last two games the only way you would lose those games is by giving the ball away and the Dutch have been avoiding that too.  So I hope OZ that answers your question.

Typing on the Blackberry while riding the train...  leads to poor posts.  But, yeah, you answered the question.  The Johnnies have heart like they haven't had in years.  They have it in spades.  Very mentally tough.

I hope it continues because if we get to the post season, the West looks to be a very, very tough region this year.  Tougher than normal with teams from each conference putting on better than their already better than average performances.

This could end up being a huge injury for the Dutch.  For those who didn't see / hear - he was taken off the field late in the first half with an air cast on his lower right leg.  He was back with the team for the post game cheer on crutches with a boot on that leg.  That's not a good sign.

The Central D has been outstanding the last couple of weeks, and I think the biggest reason was that the defensive line was getting pressure on the quarterback with just the front four.  Steenhoek was a huge part of that, and if he's out, it looks like it's going to be up to Holden Blythe to fill some pretty big shoes.
Agree that it doesn't look good for Steenhoek.  Conference player of the week to crutches.  Not good for Central

Good for Central - any football player named Blythe.  A well respected name over the decades of Central football.  Glad to see another generation the last few years.

I'm not sure if I'm reading Centrals schedule correctly, but do we have a by week?
and if we don't, why don't we?
Bye week at end of season.  Hopefully it will give us time to heal injuries before the playoffs.  Would hate to see these boys turn in their pads early.

I think it is a loss for the Dutch but as it has happened over the past few years and to take a saying from Iowa, next man in.  I think that the Dutch have capable players to fill his shoes.  I just feel really bad for him to miss time from what has been a very good year for him so far.  I hope he can heal quickly and possibly be back for Wartburg.  I know that is asking a lot but maybe it can.

I remember when Linfield's field looked just like that.
We had playoff games at the local high school, Willamette, and in Portland.

As a Central fan, what's wrong with playing Linfield in the mud??? ::) ::) ::)

Heys, glad to hear that Jr is going to be okay.  Like many others, I didn't realize that he had been injured, but I did wonder why he wasn't playing.  I knew that the subs on both teams were in, but Jr clearly is the stud of the team from what I saw.  He is a big target  with good hands, don't know why they don't take better advantage of that.  Cornell is very lucky to have a player of his talent and good for him to stick it out when any other coach in the conference would have offered him a roofing job.   :o

I had a feeling this game was going to get ugly early and you could tell from the start that this team spent a lot of time thinking about what happened, and almost happened last year.  They had a point to prove and I just hope they are ready to make the same point to every team that did beat them last year.  Next up is making a point at Simpson and they can just keep making that point all the way through Wartburg.

Appreciate the compliment! ;D
Returning the compliment back to Central, Central Fans and the D3Boards. It's been a great ride so far! ;D ;D

Central must have impressed the voters.  Every top 25 team won this week and we still climbed a spot to number 9.  I guess playing better every week will do that for you.

I am not shocked that we moved up one spot.  Not all the top 25 won this week.  We leaped a team that had a bye.  We got 11 more points this week and we were only out of number nine by one point.  So with a good win I am not shocked that the voters gave us a few more points.  With 388 points that comes out to be about 15.5 points per voter so an average puts us some where in the 10-11 spot.  Some voters are voting us higher and some lower I would venture.  Rankings are nice but its one game at a time and the W's take care of themselves.  Lets go get ready for the Storm.  The Dutch can blow into Indianola and take care of business.  One game at a time, improving each game.  Just like every season and every week.  That is Coach Mc's mantra.  Then add Coach Schipper's play with passion and thats a good receip.

I must say that I was impressed with the way Coe came back this week.  After having seen both UD and Coe play I really thought that UD could win that game.  The home cooking must have done it like Charlie predicted.

The subs did a very nice job for the Dutch.  I am really happy that the bench got cleared.  It is good to see those youngins get in the game.  Really happy to see the 4th string QB get a TD throw on 4th and long.  Reminds me of another freshman that played Cornell and got his first TD on a 4th and long play.  Good be a good omen for the years to come for the Dutch.  It is really hard to put a goose egg up on teams in the IIAC.  If you look there are not many that happen each year.  With all of the players that played Saturday it does speak well of the players that played.

Ok with week 5 having passed and now getting to the half way point in the season.  Let me take a poll on what are the surprises in the conference.  What would you say is the good surprises and what are the bad ones.  No right or wrong ones just checking as to what the IIAC posters are thinking right now.

Good The way Coe has played    ::) ::) ::)

The Bad  the way Simpson has played They have fallen quickly  ??? ??? ???

DutchFan2004

I would say the two very good surprises are that the Dutch are leading the conference in rushing and rushing defense.

The bad I would have to agree with New Storm on Simpson is somewhat a mystery.  I would have thought after last year they would have had a stronger showing.

Other good surprise is Coe.  I really thought after last season the Kohawks would be further down in the IIAC.  They are playing good football and will be a handful the rest of the season.
