Congratulations to Central - I find myself in a very difficult position, rooting for the Dutch to run the table and go deep into the playoffs to ease the sting of yesterdays debacle.  You can't give a good team 4 turnovers, short field (fumble and 2 afore mentioned onside kicks) and stay close.   Reality is Simpson lost 4-5 key defensive performers from last year and has yet to find their replacements going from the best run defense in the conference in 2008 to worst in 2009.   Hopefully Storm can right the ship and win out and salvage a winning season.

Losing 4-5 D players explains maybe the Dutch scoring that many points but it does not explain the turnovers.  You have a 5th year senior at QB that has not improved his passing game in my opinion.  He can run and run the option and does well with that but his three picks were just badly thrown balls.  His INT's tell a larger story.  2009 3, 2008 1, 2007 2 but the other QB threw 2 for a total of 4, and 2006 3.  I think that the turnovers that were committed had a huge impact on the game.  The defensive players you talk about may have slowed down the Dutch O but if you don't score you don't win.

Congrats to Central on your move from #9 to #8 in the Top 25 as well.
The West Region is a fearsome place this year.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Who gave Wartburg a point in the poll?

Pathetic.

Capital moved up from 21 to 16, but lost.  Yet they totally deserve to move up that far, the OAC is fierce.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Yea if you can have MUC that close to a loss you deserve to be in the top 25...would be awesome to get the IIAC to that level!

Stormchaser, welcome aboard the Central fan bus, even if it is just to take the sting out of yesterday.

DF04 - Don't be too hard on the Simpson QB, I'm kind of glad that the other conference QB's don't progress in ability the way a certain former Central QB did.   :)  You are right in expecting improvement, but your measuring stick may be skewed.

I think this year's squad is out to right what they feel was a year of wrongs last year.  In certain games, they are men on a mission.  Watch out Luther.  I have a feeling that loss, given that we were never really in the game last year, might inspire a similar minded Central team on a mission next week comparative to the Cornell and Simpson games of this year.

Well it's Bladt Bowl II in Storm Lake this next Saturday as Don get another shot at younger bro Alan's team after the BV upset over Wartburg.

Old Dutch

How does a team get DOMINATED and still out gain the winner?  Central only ran 52 offensive plays to score 56 points.  The team average was 7.8 yards per rush and the average kickoff return yards was 43.

Central's drive chart start shows average starting field position Simpson 47;  12 possessions that didn't end at the half: 8 TDs, 2 punts, 1 missed FG and 1 on downs late in the game.  Simpson did pick up 169 of its yards on their last 4 drives, mostly 4th qrt mop up time.

I am badly disappointed the D gave up so much, but the offense scored so quickly the Storm ran 84 plays.  Historically the Dutch have been known for the tough D but it looks like the offense can be just as dominating as the past two weeks' rushing defense has been.  A couple more of these and I will be using that P-word.  Congrats to the O-line for the dominating rushing performance and to DZ for the awesome 10 yard average!

I wouldnt be disappointed the Dutch D gave up so much, Simpsons starters were still in during the mop up time against Centrals back ups. That definitely skewed the score and stats.

Wartburg did not stub its toe. That would imply forward motion, and Saturday was a huge step backwards. Even the coaching staff showed no confidence going for FG's when we used to go for TD's. We need a huge turnaround to even be able to compete with Coe.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Couldn't have said it better myself. More incentive for Coe.

BoBo,
Awesome video clip! I always liked a running back that makes the holes and doesn't just look for the holes. This could be used as a training clip for running backs.
But, I am very curious to know if #3 got flagged for illegal block to the back on #37?, maybe even a personal foul? Seeing that it happened after the play. Looks like the ref is ready to throw?
This clip looks like a....How To and What Not To all in one video.

Yes AZ, #3 (Iowa's own Mitch Moore) was flagged for a dead ball foul, block in the back.  However, the officials failed to call the tripping penalty on MUU's #6 Daryl Ely  ;)   :D

BoBo  - I dont see any tripping penalty there, guy got his ass run over and then Beaver fell over the devastation he left behind.

North region with 10 teams in the top 25 -- West region with 9 teams in the top 25...does that make the north region more fearsome (the fiercest)?  :-\
