Since we'll be in route to Waverly this afternoon, I'm posting early.

Thought for the day:

Being with a woman all night never hurt a ball player. It's staying up all night looking for one that does him in.

Thanks footballdaddy, but we've already made the call to pass on tailgating Saturday. There were e-mails and phone calls being exchanged between the parents of Little Warthog's old roommates yesterday and we finally decided the weather forecast would trump tailgating.  We'll do the Renaisance Fair before kickoff and Oktoberfest after the game.

By the way, how many other IIAC colleges have a sanctioned event like Oktoberfest on campus?

One other note...in 54 years Linfield has only had a 5-4 record 3 times...the other 51 years the 'Cats have had a record of 6-3 or better.  Not too bad.

That's pretty good alright.  But I still have one question.

When are you going to put a roof on that "dome?"    ;)  :D

Not sure what you're talking about...it's been there for years!

A roof over the grandstand does not a "dome" make.  ;)

True, but it's still one of the best small college venues in the county and we don't need to have 60's night or give away free tuition to get students to come to the game.  ;)

My friends who attended our infamous matchup several years ago speak very highly of the facility and from what I could tell from your videos it looks pretty nice.  I just like to yank your chain about it.  :D

No worries...I'm just screwing around too.  Best of luck the rest of the way.  -11

Interesting take on the UD game.

I am going file this under the heading:  Reports of my demise are premature...

The DBQ can get bettet in a hurry...that said, their run defense is going against the strenth of the Storm offense.

Both teams are coming off embarassing defeats...we'll see who responds.

BV isn't that good, Wartburg played that bad.

i just said theyre better than i had been giving them credit for...

but looking ahead for them, i expect them to beat cornell and luther the next two weeks.  then they hit a rough stretch of central, coe, and ud.  they wont beat central.  coe has to travel to bv and teams in the iiac seem to have problems with "overnighters" as i remember one poster pointing out. and ud may have very well thrown in the towel, at this point im not sure anyone knows what to expect from them a given week.  they travel to bv as well.  point being they have the potential, to end up 6-2 in the conference.  and i would guess at worst 5-3. it's all speculation at this point so we'll just wait and see.

I actually liked traveling over night before games. You didn't have to get up earlier then a home game, ride a bus for an hour or 2, then go through your "normal" game day routines. On an over night, you got to do the same thing as a home game - as far as getting ready. I know whenever we went to BV and stayed overnight, we blew out BV. I don't think its the traveling as much as coaches making sure the players are prepared.

i enjoyed travelling and overnight games myself.  but for whatever reason, be it prepardness like you said, the teams often come out on the losing end.  this isn't to say all teams travel bad, as there are teams that do it better than others, but as a conference overall in the w/l column it doesn't bode well.
Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

I liked being home for a couple reasons. Had our own nice locker room, more relaxed game day schedule, sleep in your own bed for a few.

Oh and did I mention, it feels great to wear RED!!!!!!

I liked the home games because on the way back to my house after team activites, I would drop by the frat and chill with the drunken frat brothers (no, I didn't drink.........at least not during the season). Unlike DutchHawk, I didn't have to worry about getting all sorts of z's the night before a game  ;)

I used to like traveling to games -- as a cheerleader, we got to walk around, check out the campus and the local scene before warm ups. I usually went up the night before and partied with friends. Ah -- fun stuff.

That said, there is nothing like game day at Central, and being home was always better! Campus was always electric after a sound win....  ;)

From today's CR Gazette on Coe's QB Brad Boyle

Focused Boyle awaits Wartburg

By Jeff Johnson, The Gazette

CEDAR RAPIDS — Brad Boyle missed a practice recently for the Coe College football team. The starting quarterback didn't have an injury and wasn't sick. Try an elongated lab for a biology class instead. Ah, NCAA Division III. Do you think that's something Ricky Stanzi worries about at Iowa?

"Probably not," Boyle said. "That'd be nice not to." The absence didn't affect him much. Boyle, a sophomore from New Sharon, goes into Coe's game today at Wartburg second to Wartburg's Nick Yordi in Iowa Conference passing and total offense. Boyle is completing 65 percent of his throws and has eight touchdown passes in five games. He has yet to throw an interception. "I don't like to talk about that," Boyle said.
