Coe doesn't throw the ball downfield much, so their pass protection scheme works well on the short drops they do. If they go downfield they seem to do it on a roll out to keep the QB clean.

Without enough knowledge or research into the way it would impact the rest of the country - I would be pretty surprised if Whitewater isn't shipped out, leaving Central/SJU/Linfield at the top of the west bracket in some order.

It will be really interesting to see how the initial regional rankings shake out next week wrt those three teams.  If the committee feels that Linfield is ultimately the best of those three teams, it could still give Linfield the #1 seed and match it up against, say 6th seeded Occidental, and then have #2 Central play the #8 seed and #3 SJU play the #7 seed.

My point being (assuming everyone wins out) - it's a certainty that Linfield's first game will be out in the "extreme west" sub-bracket, but that doesn't disqualify them from being the #1 or #2 seed and forcing Central or SJU to travel to Oregon for an eventual matchup.

Go to sleep Doolittle! Whats wrong with you?

Kidney stones were the reason I was up at that late hour.  What were you doing up that late???

And for those out there that have had kidney stones...how long does it take to pass them.  It's been almost 48 hours now for me.

Ok, back to football.  Wartburg/Dubuque game saturday.  Over/under... 40 total points in the game.  I will go with over.

I agree with all that.  The playoff picture is much to cloudy to be seeding yet.  There are 4 games left to play.  Anything can happen.  There are a lot of one loss teams still vying for Pool C bids as well as AQ's are way up in the air yet.

Walston,

I see you lurking out there.  How do the Maroons look?  Who do you play this week before the playoffs start.  I would assume you at 8-0 are a lock just playing for a seed now I would think.  Good luck Friday night.  I will check out the web to see where you wind up playing Wednesday.

I had a chance to go out and knock the rust off my golf clubs, one last time. (and drink a little beer) Then I had to bowl last night. (and drink a little beer) Then I got into a good card game. (and you guessed it) I feel a little like I was in a decathlon yesterday.

It has been a long time since I had kidney stones, so I don't remember how long it lasted. I just remember it felt like I was peeing peanuts in the shell.

I think over 40 is a lock. I would probably guess over if the total was 55.

I thought what Coe did for pass protection was great. Is that something they've been doing all year? Cutting? Not going to be super-effective in its own right for 5-step, but for 3 step its perfect and I wish we could do it in HS.
What it does do for 5 step is slow up the rush just a little though because it gets in the DL's head that he may be cut.

Coe has always cut in teh past on the 3-step drop passing sets - as i would assume most teams would, d-linemen can get in the way of slants and other short routes.
5 step would be a traditional zone pass blocking set up.

I'm curious if anyone has tried to press cover / bump and run Zweifel -  he's got great hands, maybe slightly better than average speed but doesn't appear to be terribly physical.  I can tell from  watching a train wreck you aren't going to sit in Tampa 2 and give 10 yard cushion and do anything but help him set records.  Oh that's right Simpson did help him set 2 records.  I was pretty disappointed we didn't try something / anything different after say his first 10 catches.   Put your best athlete on him, knock the crap out of him coming off the line and then jump in his jock and stay there.
