footballdaddy: I bleed orange & black as much as any Wartburg fan, but I can't let your earlier post go unchallenged.

RECEIVING        GP  No.  Yards   Avg   TD   Long   Avg/G
Matt Wickert      6   28    358     12.8   1    36       59.7

RECEIVING        GP  No.  Yards   Avg    TD   Long   Avg/G
Michael Zweifel   8   90    1130   12.6   12   46      141.2

This illustrates my point. If Wartburg threw at Wickert three times as much,he'd have similar stats to Zweifel. The same for Gustafson.

By that argument - you could take ANY two guys who have the same YPC average and say "but if player B had as many catches as player A, they'd have similar stats".

And in this case - even if you did TRIPLE Wickert's stats - he'd only have 3 TDs, compared to Zweifel's 12...big difference.

I haven't seen Wartburg play, but I have a hard time believing that Wickert is in the same league as Zweifel.  If he was, he'd have much more gaudy numbers than he does.  It's not like he's on a run first team like Central.  He's on Wartburg, with the pre-season league MVP Yordi at QB in a pass-first offense.

I have seen Zweifel play, and that kid is an absolute stud.  His hands are INCREDIBLE, probably the best I've seen in covering the IIAC for 9 years.

I would have to agree with that statement about probably having some of the best hands but I would throw Matt Ditch and Jesse Schmidt into the convo as well.

At the very least...young Mr. Zweifel should finish next year as one of the most prolific receivers, in terms of receptions, in DBQ, IIAC and NCAA D3 history...and God bless him if does, because, IMHO,  he looks to not be the most physically gifted player, but he sure works hard at his craft and combines that with what skill he has.

That's pretty cool to witness 1st hand.   :)

PH,

MV houses have no roofs?!  I had no idea! :o ;D

Oh they have roofs...they just all seem to be in good repair before the summer comes around...for what ever reason that doesn't seem to be the case in Waverly. ;)

BTW - Now that Mount Vernon is the coolest small town in Iowa, we will be winning the recruiting war.  Why would any kid go to any other Iowa school and suffer being in an uncool place?

You cannot repel logic of this magnitude.

Is Coe sending a scout team to Monmouth this week? We can help arrange convenient parking ('just across' the field) for a nominal fee.
Does Coe have a Greek System with national fraternities and sororites? just wondering.

Yes, fraternities are TKE (3rd chapter in nation), Lamda Chi, Phu Kappa Tau, Sigma Nu, and one other 1 can't remember (newer)
I think they have 4 sororities, but can't remember them all

and to reiterate with DutchHawk, why?

Congratulations to all of today's winners.  Way to hang on Luther!  I watched the end of your game and it was exciting.  But what a mud mess.  Time to join the majority of the conference with field turf.
Why would Luther go to field turf?  It is my understanding that those who did, did so because of multiple use of their field by football and soccer.

Luther has 2 football practice fields, plus the game field and 3 soccer practice fields plus the game field..played by both men's and women's soccer.  Silly expense to go to field turn.

Football AND soccer are intended to play on grass!!

Besides, the weather report for Thur/Friday/Saturday is for rain and wind.  What could be better for the barbarian Norse !!

Centrals is football only! No yellow lines on the field!  We have 2 full size practice fields, plus another one thats probably 1.5 times the size of a normal field just set up in a square. Then the fieldturf for FOOTBALL ONLY!

A little bio on Michael Zweifel who started as a freshman for UW-RF.  Not bad for only 2 seasons of college football, wouldn't you say?  And to think.................. he did it all without, "daddy," coaching him. ;)

It still holds up my argument that if you throw a lot of balls at a good receiver he will have good stats. I've never said he wasn't a good receiver, but any starting receiver at this level will have similar stats it you threw at them 15 times a game every game. I hope he gets All-american, it will only make the rest of the league look better.

BTW, Wartburg's field is football only. If you have to hide behind a sloppy field to win games that's ok. I just hope you don't get anyone hurt because of it.

At Cornell, we'd love to have a player like Wickert...no roofing jobs in MV, though.   ;)

Cornell needs to think outside of the box...if there are no roofing jobs in MV, then cheerleaders with morally casual attitudes tend to work well with young men in their late teens, early 20's!!!  Though, as a faith based college associated with the Methodist church...perhaps that wouldn't be the way to go in the Rams recruitment practices ;)

not a bad thought.  although with the cheeleaders at cornell that could backfire.  i think ppl would run away from the program.  i still have nightmares.

A ridiculous overstatement.

Since Zweifel had nearly as many catches in 2 years as any other WIAC receiver had in four, are you contending that all other WIAC coaches are idiots, or that NO other receiver on Zweifel's teams is worthy of being a starting receiver (I can't really think of a third option, since Zweifel's daddy was not calling the plays those years to 'inflate' junior's stats)?
