Congratulations to WB for playing a great game and not giving up.  I never felt that the game was in doubt because our offense was having a terrific day and eating up clock time, but it was good to have a team keep us battling to the end.  That is the best that I remember Yordi playing against the Dutch.  He got rid of the ball quickly and always seemed to have a short play option when the deep ball wasn't available.  I'm not sure I agree that it showed weakness to future playoff teams so much because most QB's don't throw that fast, but if we meet up with another quick release QB, I still have faith in the offense scoring more.

Nate Snead had an unbelievable game on Saturday and it was a battle of two great QB's.  Glad to have Snead on the Dutch side as he was more versatile being successful in running and passing.  And what a day of passing!  Wow!!!  And mastering the clock and scoring that TD right before the half then coming back with another great drive to start the second half set the momentum.  WB didn't give up, but they didn't catch up either.  Not sure I like seeing the pass coverage playing as far off the receivers as they were, not sure if that was because of how fast Yordi was letting go of the ball or because we were playing prevent the big play defense that kept the clock moving.  A win at WB is as hard to come by for teams as a win at Central, good to come away with one.  Now just concentrate on getting better.

Not sure which game you were watching, but taking a three score lead and making it a one score lead with time left in the 4th quarter would seem to put the game in some doubt. I didn't see Central pulling any starters. I'm sure Coach Mac is concerned about how Wartburg moved the ball on offense. I wouldn't say we moved the ball at will, but we moved the ball in ther air and on the ground. We stopped ourselves as much as Central did. I belive this game was one play away from a Wartburg win, we just didn't get it to happen. Talking to our players after the game, we would love to play it again, any time, any where.

Footballdaddy,

I get your point about it being a close game.  But with an 8 point win I believe your statement about it being a play away from a Wartburg win is not correct.  8 Points would take at least two plays to be different.  The Knights were a play away from being tied but not a play away from winning.   ;D ;D ;D

Without the facemask on the fumbled punt snap we get at least a field goal which is a 10 point swing. Besides that, if we are more aggressive in the red zone in the first quarter we get at least one td there. But I'm not going to play the what if game. Central won, Wartburg lost.

If you did play 'what if', you would have to include 'what if the Wartburg RB doesn't fumble and the ball falls into Yordi's lap with no defenders in sight'.  The RB was not anywhere near the goal line on that play.

I was watching the same game that you were, just from a Dutch perspective.  If I was a Knight fan, I would want to believe that the game was in doubt too.  As a Dutch fan, I don't believe it ever was, not just saying that, I truly did not believe it was ever in doubt.  If you want to play the what if game, Central could have beat Wartburg last year.  What respect I gained for you last week, you just lost.   You got beat by 8 points, yes a TD and 2 pt conversion could have tied it up, but it would not have won it AND you would have had to have had the ball again, AND Central would have had to not be willing to just run out the clock when our O was scoring as regularly as WB's.  If you really want to play the IF game, how about if Central had recovered the fumble on WB's third attempt to get into the end zone from 2 yards out when the initial carrier was stopped cold AGAIN.

Don't play the "if" game, accept that you lost, appreciate the fact that we are crediting WB with playing a great game.  We chose to respect your team by leaving the starters in, take it as a complement and let it go.

My ONLY comment is.......Don't say you won't play the "what if" game after you just dropped two hypotheticals earlier in the post.  That is all.   ;D

Please reread my posts! I don't want to play that game. I was just saying that I just think a one score game with 1:20 left isn't out of reach when we had scored two TD's alrady in the quarter I also gave a plausable scenario that didn't involve an event of biblical proportions to illustrate that the game was even closer than the score. I'm not saying we were robbed, or that Central was lucky, or the officials gave the game away. CENTRAL WON! WARTBURG LOST! I'm just saying that Central souldn't give themselves too big of a pat on the back. They have some things to work on if they want to advance in the playoffs. I'm sure the Central coahing staff would agree, especially after the swearing a large part of the Wartburg crowd heard coming from the Central coaches in the press box. Again these are thoughts brought up by a parent of a very prominent Dutch player. So everyone can go back to calling me a hater and whatever else you want. Go ahead and spend the next week talking about your COY's, POY's and who you will face in the third round of the playoffs. I scincerely hope Central represents the IIAC in the best possible fashion. I hope Coe get the bid that they deserve and that they too go far. In the meantime, we have a game to play

You just proved my point!!!!! That is two plays.  Change the facemask and you kicking a fieldgoal that with two blocked extra points is a maybe isn't it?  I think you are grasping on that one.  So your earlier post is still more than one play away isn't it?

Your post said it was a one score game and you would win with one play.  Did I read it wrong?  There is no 9 point play.  Come on Footballdaddy your post is flat out wrong.  I got your point that the game was not a blow out and that Wartburg was in the game.  That is a credit to the Knights for not quitting when they were down.  But admit there is no way that one play you win that game it can not be done.   ;D ;D ;D

Fbdaddy-

Since I'm not a regular at Wartburg games, how did the crowd compare to other games this yr (attendance)?  It seemed to be a pretty small crowd compared to other yrs, but maybe w/ Iowa/ISU playing home afternoon games, great weather and farmers busy it cut into the overall size of the crowd.  Thanks.

As for questionable/swing plays calls i can see a few. I had a great view of the facemask on the fumbled pun and it was, in fact....gasp...a legit facemask! So no what ifs apply there.

The fumble after we snuffed the Knights out on 3 plays inside the one that somehow got to Yordi who of course went in the end zone untouched felt like a big momentum changer. Thats the way the ball falls though, props to Yordi for luckily being in the right position and taking advantage of the situation!

Wartburg got helped pretty solidly by the refs on a late scoring drive with two very questionable calls of PI on our cornerbacks. I was in the South end zone and the first one was bang bang, looked like a good play on the ball but Ill give benefit of the doubt to the ref on the field. The other was a quick slant on Wartburgs sideline that our CB had inside position on, got run into by the WB WR and was called for PI, how that works Im not sure.

Im not here to bitch, calls went both ways, balls bounced both ways. But your grumpiness to accept that you got beat and take a note from the other Wartburg faithful who have been on here much longer, and although I dont know your history, followed Wartburg and IIAC football much longer (feel free to correct me with you having played there or whatever if is such the case).

I have respect for Wartburg as a good football team, always lines up and gives you one hell of a game, they play the game the right way and if I had it my way it would always be Central then Wartburg in the standings.

Please quit complaining and being a wuss about things. No one on Centrals side was overly patting ourselves on the back, but a 10-0 season is surely something to celebrate. Going undefeated in the conference and on the season is something to celebrate and these seniors have done it 3 times.

Sorry for the rambling post...:)
