I think Coe has a good chance against the Johnnies this year and hope they can get the W.  In a way, I wish Central could trade places and play the Johnnies instead of UMHB even though SJU is rated higher because we know them and what they tend to do and it plays to Central's strength defensively.  Coe has been a force this year that has only gotten stronger since the loss to Central.  I think they can get the W on Saturday.

Central has to brush up on UMHB quickly and get focused on what they need to do to win.  I believe they can do it, but admit that it will be a challenge with a bracket that won't get any easier.  With the strength of the West, every game could be the major preparation that gets you ready for the UWW and MUC's of the DIII world.  Go Dutch!

Here is a big howdy to any Texans who come by for some pre-game banter.  I hoped to save my play-off game trip for a later round.  But I'm not going to Oregon, and it will probably be colder than I like it for the Central Coe rematch.  So, I guess I will try to get to Pella and see if Texans know anything about how to play football.

Teams are apparently NOT seeded.     Here is a reply from the NCAA to my email this am:

"From: "Brown, Shonna" <sbrown@ncaa.org>Add sender to ContactsTo: "O'Hara, Nancy" <nohara@ncaa.org>, "gtoregon@yahoo.com" <gtoregon@yahoo.com>George,

We do not seed the teams on the DIII football bracket.  The home teams are determined by evaluating which institutions have submitted bids to host and the selection criteria.  Teams are notified on Friday prior to a game if it is clear who will host the next round and others are determined on Sunday morning as the committee reconvenes to decide this.

This is the way it has always been in DIII football.

Thanks for your support.

Nancy,

I hope you can answer a question that is being debated by many fans.   What is the seeding of all 32 teams in the selection announced yesterday?

No one seems to know and there is much debate on who is seeded where in the rankings.   We D-3 fans are always excited about the playoffs and would like this information since it determines which team will be the host game for the first four rounds.

Many were disappointed that this not announced yesterday with the bracket announcement.

Thank you,

George Thompson"

So MUC and UW-W could play on the road if they didn't submit high enough bids???  Interesting

I agree. I think Coe got the better seed than the Dutch!! The Dutch defense will be tested & if they can stop the run, it could be a good day in Pella.

This is an easy brush up.  UMHB runs the football.  Through you, around you, over you if necessary.  As a team 3317 yds rushing on the season.  This year has added a passing attack that has been better than the past having thrown for 1298 yds with 5 picks.  Defensively, UMHB is all about stopping the run and have given up only 590 net on the ground this season.  They also have some good DBs who have 14 picks on the year.  In short it's a team built on the old school philosophies of defense wins and ball control.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Looking at UMHB stats, it does appear that they are very, very similar to Central in every aspect of the game, with some of the stats being better, but Central has a stronger SOS, so that evens things out to my way of thinking.  They are close enough that either team winning can't be called predictable or an upset.  Was glad to see that they are more run oriented than passing, but they are capable of passing when needed.  It should be a great game in Pella and hope to hear reports of Coe leading SJU as the games progress.

by stats looks like UMHB and Central are very similar.

Sounds like it could be a lower scoring game than both Central and UMHB are used to.  I'm counting on two very well matched teams going at it and this is one of those games where the turnovers and special teams play could well decide the outcome.  Central plays a very similar game, with stats that are similar given the difference in SOS.  Should definitely be the game of the week.

How far is Pella from Des Moines? Any decent places to stay in Pella? How about tailgating for visitors? Any information would be appreciated.

Pella is about 50 minutes SE of Des Moines and over the past decade, a number of new hotels have sprung up, so there are LOTS of decent places to stay.
http://tinyurl.com/yjvzvpf should give you plenty of options.  There is a parking lot by the football field where you can tailgate, but beware the no alcohol policy on Central's campus, (subliminal message - use cups, not cans).  If you are coming in from Des Moines, take the first exit off Hwy 163 and turn left towards town.  Turn right at the stop light at the intersection of West third street, then turn right at the four way stop on Independence and it will take you directly to the parking lot.  Very easy to find as long as you don't go to the second exit that is the designated Central College exit.  If you stay at the Comfort Inn, it is just a short distance from the first exit off 163.  Country Inns and Suites is right off the second exit, and it is very nice, but the view is industrial as it is right opposite the Pella Windows Factory.
